Overall a pretty good stay with the caveat of checking in and checking out.
As would be suggested by the name, the whole idea behind the hotel is that people often stay for longer periods of time. I stayed here for just under two weeks while transitioning between houses. I stayed in a King studio which was very comfortable and a great size for one person. Housekeeping in particular was excellent, replacing items such as soap, dishwasher detergent, etc at a good frequency. The included breakfast is a fine grab-and-go type set up. I used the laundry facilities once. They are coin operated only, which in the year 2022 as society moves farther and farther away from cash was a little annoying. I was able to easily get $4 in quarters from the front desk however, thankfully. The dryers, however… really… didn’t… work. When the door was opened at the end of the cycle, steam and some heat came out but the clothes were still very damp. I didn’t want to bother going downstairs to get more change and wait another hour for the clothes to maybe get slightly less damp so I air dried them on all the various pieces of furniture in my room.
Finally, we come to the biggest annoyance of the stay. LUGGAGE CARTS. I’ve unfortunately since Covid found that luggage carts are harder and harder to find across all hotels. However, at a Residence Inn where people are often staring for weeks at a time, you really need more than two or three. I think I only saw a total of three the whole time. Of course, not when I needed them. When I first checked in, the desk agent checked the security cameras, didn’t find any and just shrugged and said “sorry.” I should point out that when I checked in, I was 19 weeks pregnant and my room (341) is on the highest floor and the farthest room from the elevators if you look at the floor plan. Thank goodness on check in after waiting around for a bit and trying to gather some things for my car, I spotted another guest with two luggage carts and begged him to let me use one.
Unfortunately, I was not so lucky on check out. So at 21 weeks pregnant I made 4 trips up and down to my car, partly using the elevator, partly using the stairs just because they were so much closer.
This really leaves a sour taste given that again, these negative experiences happen on check in and check out.
Otherwise though, a relatively quite stay, however. Good black out curtains (I work night shifts partly) and I felt very secure in the hotel as all doors except the front door require keycard access.
Overall, I would recommend this hotel to able-bodied people. If you have an disabilities or have lots of luggage and not lots of people to help you deal with it, stay...
Read moreI have security concerns at the Residence Inn Northeast Columbia, SC. I expressed my concerns to the front desk and later the General Manager, which, in both cases, was unprofessional. Today, another situation unfolded, and the front desk called me, telling me they had just spoken to my husband and again gave out room information without ID. My husband and I were both off the property at the time. I'm still determining who my room number was given. I explained to Rebecca (GM) yesterday that I was the victim of domestic violence and that the hotel should take the safety and security of their guests seriously. I was given a BS excuse about remembering guests' faces on extended stays. This was a bald-faced lie because my husband is a truck driver; he arrived at the hotel in the wee hours and had never visited the front desk before requesting a new key on October 5th because his key was not working.
I've mentioned two times that the hotel gave room keys to my family staying with me but did not ask for ID. When brought to the GM's attention, I was told she would use it as a training opportunity for future reference. I was denied three room keys and told my 16-year-old could not have one due to his age. I verified with a Marriott employee that it was an incorrect statement, and the only time age becomes an issue is if renting to a minor. As a result, I had to leave work to allow my 16-year access to the room I'd been staying in for a month, which cost me almost nine thousand dollars. The GM offered me 2,000 bonus points for the inconvenience, adding insult to injury.
At this point, I believe I'm being retaliated against for voicing my concerns and being discriminated against by the GM. Offering someone the equivalent of $10 is an insult after forking over $9K. I have been a loyal BONVOY member for quite some time. I would appreciate someone looking into this, as the hotel has put my family's life in danger, and the GM has no concern...
