Sad to say I experienced discrimination at this location. It's further South so I wasn't surprised. I walked in to check on the status of my room because I completed an online check in the day before. When I walked in I immediately spoke the agent had a serious look on her face no proper greeting or smile. I then expressed that I was wanting to see when I can check in. I proceeded to spell my last name so my reservation can be pulled. The lady immediately cut me off and said check in is nor until 3pm. I tried to say I'm aware but she cut me off again and said I need to leave and come back at 3. She refused to pull up my reservation, I was not able to ask where we're the restrooms for my children or if I will receive my text message which I normally receive once my room is ready. Nothing I was unable to say one word. I stood there looked up the lady gave me a blank stare I politely left. If it wasn't for me being there for a special church event located 7 mins away with Pastor Travis Greene I would have canceled and booked at my usual Marriott đ. I returned with my daughters and I walked in the agent said "Back again" she then asked me for my last name. I kindly asked if she was the manager and what was her name. She frowned and said she was not the manager I then stated that she was very rude to Me and it wasn't polite to cut me off let alone not allowing me to ask any questions. She looked down ignored me and said I have a room ready. I then said "wow" so no customer service no apology nothing, she shrugged her shoulders and asked for My ID. I gave the agent my ID she then asked for my government ID which that's required due to my code however she kept talking and made a degrading statement sayinsa"i have to make sure its real and active' Now im not sure how many ppl from the government/state/federal utilize that location but i can imagine the numbers are low. So now im triggered I looked at the agent and told her that I'm not a fake and out of all the codes why in the world would i choose a government code or military knowing we have certain badges lol. I sent my daughter to the truck to get my badge she couldn't find it. Lord Jesus this was right up the agents alley. I called my son and asked him to take pictures of my ID and send it to me. While talking to my son I also asked the agent if she can accept my badge via text. I have been traveling like crazy from Philly to NC to SC surprisingly she said yes. So I patiently waited for my son to send it. I told the lady my son has my badge. She then said o I already changed your reservation to another code to match your rate. I expressed my gratitude but you think she would have said that. Anyone she Said you don't have to show me your badge. Please understand I respectly walked up to the counter and showed the agent my government Badge she already disrespected me, accused me and provided at the beginning distasteful customer service. Not only she seen my badge but also that I'm an Elite member. She gave me a paper saying here is a free item from the bistro "since you took it that way". She failed to understand how bad she treated me and my two daughters one 11 yrs and the other 6 months old. But guess what the free item I was suppose to get anyone because I had a breakfast code so she made it seem like she did me a favor. I thanked her and left. I told her I was there for church and I refused to come out of character. She wears black glasses, she has long black hair and I'm sure I will see her again because I have to come back to that area. Besides her service everything was just like the...
Read moreWe stayed here one night on our way down south to take my teen to college. We arrived around 7:30 very tired and were welcomed by a lovely woman named Barbara. We requested a room with two beds and she informed us that the elevator was out and that our room would be on the 3rd floor. Not a huge deal except for the fact the stairwells are not air conditioned so the trip up 3 flights was a tad sweaty with our luggage. We quickly dropped off items and went to dinner. When we returned, Barbara greeted us with a smile. So things took an unpleasant turn when we were ready to sleep. I always check the beds (mattresses, pads, pillows, etc) for cleanliness, bugs, whatever. To our shock, my bed was dreadful. The mattress pad had what appeared to be a possible blood stain (?), and most definitely sweat/urine/fluid stains and barely fit the bed as straps were either missing or torn. Upon further inspection, the mattress itself had similar stains. We checked my kidâs bed and similar stains were on his mattress with a torn-up mattress pad that did not completely cover the mattress. We showed Barbara the pictures and she was horrified. Under normal circumstances I would have found other accommodations immediately but after being on the road for 14 hours and it being almost 10 pm, we were exhausted. Barbara gave us freshly washed mattress pads (even these still had holes and missing straps) and we remade our beds stripping off the other pads. Barbara offered to do this as well but we handled it. Barbara also said our breakfast at the little Starbucks bistro would be complimentary. We slept rather restlessly as we were aware of the conditions we were sleeping on and once something like this is discovered, one wonders about the cleanliness/sanitation of the rest of the room. In the morning at check-out we informed the day manager and she said she knew about what transpired and left our information for Barbara to get back to us about any further compensation. We never heard from anyone which is disappointing. Our room (Bonvoy member) was billed at $154 including tax which is pretty steep considering no elevator and the unacceptable âewwwwâ factor of the beds for a freeway Courtyard. The approximately $25 comp for breakfast wasnât satisfactory in this case- (it would have been if it was only for the inoperable elevator). I would have loved to give this a higher rating as Barbara was genuinely welcoming and so was the bistro staff that night. The hotel is convenient to the freeway and in a quiet, pretty location. It is about 4 miles from ârestaurant rowâ. However, considering cleanliness of sleeping conditions is the main priority for most hotel stays, they missed the mark. Iâd advise new mattresses and updated linens and then I could recommend...
Read moreI was always under the impression that Marriott hotels had higher standards. Not at the Courtyard in Columbia, SC. On a recent stay(August 5 to 9, 2017) at the Courtyard Columbia Northeast/I-77, after a full day of seeing family and sites, my wife and I returned to our room late at night and ready for bed. What a surprise to find that our room had not been made up by Housekeeping. No beds made, no clean towels, no clean glasses, no replenishment of the coffee service, and so on. When I called the night manager (Dimitrie), he could offer no explanation. I even asked about a price adjustment and his response was "I can't do that." And he didn't offer any other compensation such as a voucher for our next visit, or a free breakfast, or a complimentary bottle of wine. Nothing! Nada! I always thought that the price of a room included Housekeeping Services and that the company would make good when things are amiss. Apparently not at the Courtyard by Marriott in Columbia, SC. Looks like the next time we come to this town to visit, we will have to find another place to stay.
One would think that was the end of the story. Nope! The next morning, on our way to breakfast, we rode the elevator with a woman who looked important. She was wearing a housekeepers' uniform and carried a clipboard. I asked her if she was the Housekeeping Manager. She said yes and said her name was Carolyn. I related the incident of the previous evening and she said she would take care of it and added that that shouldn't have happened. At breakfast I also spoke to the Day Manager who was at the front desk and told him the story. Keep in mind that three separate "managers" heard my story and apologized for the situation.
We then left for the day and again returned at night only to find that our room, once again, wasn't made up. The soiled towels were gone but it was quite obvious that Housekeeping did not clean the room. Needless to say, I was furious and went to the front desk and asked to speak to the manager. The person at the desk was very pleasant and understanding and she did call someone who I think was a manager. Both ladies were very sympathetic and understanding. They gave me a stack of fresh towels and said they would look into it. Later that evening, I received a call from the front desk manager who again apologized and said that she had called the General Manager and relayed my dilemma. She added that Courtyard would not charge me for the...
