First, I travel a LOT and have been all over the world. My stay at the Boca Raton Cloister was horrible and showed a tremendous amount of lack of consideration for guests. I'd STRONGLY encourage people to stay elsewhere. I am a Marriot Bonvoy gold customer (god knows how they treat people with no status). Let me explain. I arrived to this hotel for a three night stay as part of a work conference I specifically booked a room at the Cloister (not at Beach Club) because I had to be close to conference room meetings and back in my room for many zoom calls. Two days before I arrived I was told via email of my UPGRADE to the Beach Club (note, a shuttle or water taxi away from main hotel). This was done without my consent as I specifically booked the Cloister. I quickly called as soon as I got the email and insisted to be put back in Cloister for convenience. I got am email back within an hour saying they would move me back. So far so good. When I arrived to the property a couple days later I was given room overlooking what appeared to be a construction site. There was scaffolding just outside my window and I saw workers and a backhoe. Knowing it would be noisy and I had many zooms, I went downstairs and requested another room. I was told "nothing could be done" so requested the manager. I pointed out it was only 1pm and other guests had probably not arrived so please move me. He agreed not everyone had checked I'm but said I would have to wait for my room (I had a zoom meeting at 4pm but said okay but please try to have new room by 4pm -- how long does it take to clean a room??? -- I gave them 3 hours). I ended up getting my new room at 6pm! I was told of a quiet area where I could do my zoom that was about 80 degrees and not quiet at all (off loud echo-y main lobby rooms). There is no business center despite hosting large business conferences. Thinking, okay it will get better I got my room at 6pm. It looked nice, but suspiciously was facing a parking lot of some sort with no cars. It looked like a loading zone of some sort. I figured it will probably be okay. I was wrong. One day of my stay I had a lot of zooms between conference meetings. But, as the sun rose I heard loud clanging, shouting and trucks at 7.15am! Apparently this was the areas for dropping off stuff for the construction and also a day for landscaping. Workers were collecting all sorts of tools from the back of a truck and I saw a backhoe. I knew there would be trouble. When I got back to my room for my zooms (after morning conference meetings), there was incessant LOUD noise and all sorts of landscaping, trucks, backhoes and workers shouting. The "nice" manager had moved me from a room facing a construction site to a part of the hotel that was as about as loud as he could find. 7am wake up, noise all day, very hard to concentrate. The windows are paper thin making matters even worse. One would think I would have been excited for my room with a terrace, but I would have preferred a room with less glass since it was so loud -- plus the terrance faced a parking lot. What annoys me the most is the manager clearly did not seek to help me find a quiet room but almost seemed to place me I'm the loudest room he could find on purpose. This speaks to the type of service you should expect to receive at the Boca Raton Cloister. If you are dumb enough to stay here voluntarily -- all I can say is good luck! P.S. The wifi also didn't work...
Read moreSad that my first visit was an unexpected let down... There were lots of letdowns and I was going to stay again to give them a second chance because they have potential to be a great place to stay but it’s not gonna happen. I ended up canceling my reservation for my second trip.
Now, I have to say, they do have the very best valet ... I give them that...but that establishment is poorly ran. They obviously don’t train their employees. They don’t care about customer service, they are a complete joke when thinking about what they think they are and the reality. They don’t deserve a star or diamond. they must have somebody in their back pocket.
I will never ever waste my time or money on them again. They obviously think they are better than what they are. They need to go to a real resort that’s worthy of stars and diamonds and see a major difference!
Let me say from the shuttle driver who was rude and would not let us know where we were when we asked, since he did not bother to let us know when he made stops... and took it as a great defense when we asked him and flew over every bump ... to the guy on the boat who would not acknowledge me, even though I said hello to the guy, and the bartenders in a couple of bar areas that would ignore a guest while talking among themselves and watching golf, even though I had to grab my own menu and even waited but never got service... so I left. I shouldn’t have to beg or work to get someone to help me. That morning for breakfast, I had free vouchers for being a diamond member but I was lied to and told that they don’t have free breakfast and it would only work towards their buffet breakfast that you have to pay for. The server totally lied to me and the front desk girl was completely ignorant to the fact and could not answer me correctly. After I walked away and saw them out the corner of my eye I approached the very nice guys that were in the bar area. They were the nicest guys and they helped me. I made sure I went back to tell the front desk girl that she was wrong and that this is where you’re supposed to send your guest. Sad... that she did not know it
And there are many other incidents that I could describe but I’m not gonna waste my time. They have taken enough of it.
I do have to say, there were some positive things to the trip, of course, and I liked my room once they moved me, but for the amount of money and/or points that they want. I think they’re crazy. It’s just not worth the aggravation that you go through and the disappointment you feel.
After my generic email response from Mary Francis, I have concluded that this is a unworthy place and I do not recommend them. Of course, It’s your money so you decide. I’m going somewhere that’s worthy of me, my time, and my hard...
Read moreWent here in Oct 2017 for what was probably the 10th time since moving to Boca Raton in 2001. We normally came for work related matters and had a hotel room.... The resort as a whole is gorgeous. Cloister tower is one of a kind, timeless, elegant, and classy. We went to have breakfast on a Sunday morning at the all you can eat buffet. We had a 2 year old, 3 year old, and a 4 year old with us, plus 6 adults. We were shocked when the bill came and they billed us for all of the children ($15 each) even though two of them didn't even eat anything more than a glass of almond milk and a half of a banana.....we just felt that infants/small children should be either complimentary, or maybe $5-7....not $15 for the amount of food they're capable of eating, and the amount they actually ate...So, this wasn't our big issue. The issue was that we were invited as potential membership guests for a day. We tried to pay with our credit card and it took nearly 40 min for the waiter to come back to our table with the bill after we tracked him down and gave him our card. He finally came over after we asked for a manager. The bill was presented, we signed, and went to the pool. By now, we had lost about 45 min of our morning by waiting for the bill. So, now were at the pool relaxing and the waiter comes back out of nowhere saying out loud "Your credit card didn't work sir....can i have your credit card"...don't forget, this was an HOUR after we paid our bill at the restaurant. Not only was this a bit embarrassing, but unprofessional as well. We had a signed receipt from the restaurant which we showed him...he didn't speak good english but said something about how he hit cancel, and not charge for the breakfast. We really didn't understand him so we gave him the card again, and 15 min later he came back with it and another receipt to sign.....all in all, the resort was great, but what a DEBACLE of an experience at this restaurant. We lost out on a lot of valuable time to actually see the resort with our kids and see if we wanted to join as members. If they're trying to impress prospects into joining the club, this certainly wasn't the way to do it. It seems as if the wait staff is conditioned to either accept ROOM KEYS or MEMBERSHIP ID's, not potential members credit cards. Overall experience at the restaurant can best be summarized as classless, humiliating, and outright wrong......Again, the resort as a whole, 5 stars; albeit, our experience, 2...
