The experience with Bed and Breakfast Associates Bay Colony booking service was fine, worked well and plenty of options. Unfortunately Abigayles Bed & Breakfast (The Brownstone) is not somewhere we would go back to.The location is good, close to Fenway if you are a baseball lover and half a block from Kenmore Metro station if you just want direct transportation into Downtown. The area has a few restaurants of mixed standard, nothing outstanding but Eastern Standard is probably the best for food with the Boston Beer Works the best for beer and burgers. Abigayle’s isn’t actually owned or run by an Abigayle and the old Brownstone building is quaint and relatively quiet but two things stand out. Firstly, the electrics, you can’t run the a/c and the kettle at the same time, or a hair dryer and the kettle or indeed any two significant appliances or you blow the whole system we were told at check in – that’s not quaint that’s third world and something of a worry if you are staying on the third floor and an electrical fire starts. Secondly B&B – the bed was great, comfortable, clean and the room spacious, but the breakfast was woefully inadequate. We have stayed in US B&B’s before, breakfast can be a thing of beauty, quality pastries, fresh fruit and every day a cooked something. Abigayles, has Bananas, Apples and one form of red fruit – Blueberries, or Strawberries or Cherries. Pastries are from a convenience store, an English muffin and a few cereal options, and some days a yogurt. That’s it. We seriously contemplated going out for breakfast. There is no washing machine and the wifi is spotty on the top floor (the router is on the 1st floor so the top floor is two above – a booster would solve it for $50 but seems to be too much trouble. It’s a pity because Mrs Themo is a lovely lady, friendly and easy going but while she assured us she has many repeat customers I am at a...
Read moreThis was probably one of the worst traveling experiences a person could ever imagine. My whole family was staying in two units -- including 5 kids and elderly parents (one of which has sever dementia). While visiting the Boston Tea Party Museum the owner of the property (not the management company) called us and was terribly rude and told us we had 30 minutes to vacate because there was another booking coming in. We were expecting to stay a few more days. With a wedding to attend in less than a few hours we raced back to our apartment to pack up and move.
I don't want to speak too poorly of the company and the people because they did attempt to make it right by putting us up in a hotel but the circumstances that all of it went down was horrible.
To their credit they refunded us part of the cost of the unit and they were extremely apologetic -- again they handled it as well as they could considering the circumstance.
The last thing was that one of our family members accidentally left behind a large amount of cash in the rush to vacate and it was never recovered.
I would recommend sticking with a hotel or airbnb if you can, simply for the protection from these types of...
Read moreThe location and facilities are excellent for one person in the Longwood Studio Suite at Fenway. On the other hand, the staff of Bed and Breakfast Associates Bay Colony could be more efficient and friendly. They promote themselves as different from a hotel, but they treat you in a impersonal manner like a hotel does, even if you have been living in the place for months. So, after one semester, at 11 am, you have to leave, with no further notice. Moreover, they always create a reason for extra charges and don't try to make things easier for the customers, quite the opposite.
P.S.: After all, I'm realizing that they also don't say the truth. I'm unhappy with your services, among other reasons, because I had to pay YOUR fee for the international transaction, charged by a US bank. You transferred YOUR cost to me. This...
