Visiting Newbury Comics in Boston was a unique experience, especially if you're into music, pop culture, and everything alternative. The store has a distinct vibe—it feels like a mix between an indie record shop, a comic book store, and a pop culture boutique. It's perfectly located on Newbury Street, making it easy to find if you're walking around the area.

What I liked the most was the vinyl section. They have a great selection that ranges from classics to recent releases, including special editions you won’t easily find elsewhere. If you collect records or are just getting into it, this place is a gem. They also carry CDs, which is becoming rare these days.

Beyond music, there's a wide variety of comics, collectible figures, band t-shirts, Funko Pops, pins, posters, and more. Everything is well organized, and it's easy to spend a good amount of time browsing. It’s a great spot to find a unique gift or just treat yourself.

The staff was friendly and never pushy. When they asked if I needed help, I could say I was just looking without feeling pressured (which I really appreciated). They also have deals and exclusive items that make it worth stopping by, even if you’re not specifically looking for something.

Overall, Newbury Comics is more than just a store—it’s a small cultural hub in the middle of Boston. If you’re into music, comics, or pop culture in general, it’s definitely a place you should check out. Even if you don’t end up buying anything, it’s a fun place to explore...

Newbury Comics on Newbury Street is a nostalgic, nostalgia‑soaked pop‑culture emporium—but not really a true comic shop. It’s a vibrant two‑story space brimming with manga, collectibles, vinyl, T‑shirts, Funko Pops, and comic trade paperbacks . The staff are often praised as friendly and helpful, and browsing can be fun if you love geeky merch .

That said, the comic and graphic‑novel selection has shrunk over the years, buried under a sea of toys and mainstream merch . Many Reddit users lament the steep markups:

ā€œEverything costs more at Newbury Comics. Not sure why.ā€ ā€œNewbury Comics … have insane markups … comic book section has been consistently downsized.ā€

Pricing is often flagged as significantly higher than at dedicated comic shops or online—variants and boosters especially draw criticism .

šŸ‘ Highlights:

Huge variety: manga, comics, vinyl, T‑shirts, Funko, merch

Friendly staff and upbeat store vibe

Two floors full of pop‑culture treasures

šŸ‘Ž Downsides:

Comic and GN shelves diminished & disorganized

Markups can be steep—sometimes 50‑100% over MSRP

In summary, Newbury Comics on Newbury Street is a fun browse for pop‑culture lovers—especially manga and vinyl fans—but if you're hunting for well‑curated comics or competitive pricing, dedicated local comic stores in Boston are...

My daughter and I traveled to Boston in early December to celebrate her birthday. We hit Newbury Comics on Newbury street to check out some shirts and vinyl. I was happy to find some punk to add to my collection, and my daughter found some metal for hers. We selected a few shirts, and I got a gift for my sister (a kitschy oven mitt with images of cat butts on it).

We didn't look at our haul until we got back to NC, and I realized the clerk who checked us out missed a security tag on a shirt I bought for my son. Going back to the store wasn't an option, and I called around locally, but couldn't find anyone willing to remove a tag from another retailer.

I reached out to Newbury Comics via email and explained the situation. I got a response quickly offering to send me a replacement. I was shocked because I was expecting a big hassle involving sending the one with the sensor back and waiting for the replacement, but nope. No hassle at all. They put the replacement in the mail at no cost to me, and I received it yesterday. My son is stoked and loves his new shirt.

I really appreciate great customer service and the fact that these folks made things right. Their shirts aren't inexpensive, but the price is definitely worth the service. I'll definitely visit again the next time...

I do really miss the edgy, counterculture vibe of the old Newbury Comics, as it seems to be trending towards a more cerebral Hot Topic. However, I'm not surprised, as counterculture has really become mainstream culture - it's actually delightful for me to find a lot more people these days appreciate weirdness and odd little trinkets. But I digress! I found some excellent treasures, especially in the books, graphic tees, stickers (I'll be making those into magnets), and Japanese manga/gifts (they carry almost, if not all, of Junji Ito's short horror story collections, which are so hard to find all in one place elsewhere!!). Still always a store I will need to visit as a beloved tradition each time I come to Boston, and I certainly wasn't alone - the place was fairly hopping with customers. Newbury Comics, 30 years later I still love you!

I stop into Newbury Comics anytime I’m on Newbury Street—it’s always a fun visit. The entry-level floor is packed with Funko Pops, comics, tees, and collectibles, while the basement has an impressive vinyl selection. Head upstairs and you’ll find plenty of manga, graphic novels, and trade paperbacks. It’s always a great place to browse, whether you’re shopping seriously or just looking around. A must-visit spot for pop culture fans.

A pretty good selection of all kinds of music! Some K-pop albums were a bit overpriced (especially Twice), but others were good. They also had a decent amount of albums on clearance. They had a huge selection of blind boxes (keychains, figurines) as well. These were also priced pretty well and are similar to what I’ve seen other places. An overall nice place to shop for music and little trinkets.
