Please see attached photo. After my wife and I’s stay at The Retreat at Anna Maria Island Inn I feel compelled to let others know our experience. We have been coming to Anna Maria Island for a little while now and we had been looking to book a stay at Anna Maria Island Inn. We were impressed with what we saw online. Last weekend we got to stay at the “newly renovated” building The Retreat. We arrived around 10:30pm, Thursday. We had to go to the Seaside building to check in and were given a paper with a keycode. We tried to input the keycode but it didn’t work. So, we called the front desk and was given a different key code which also didn’t work. We called back a second time, eventually, we were given a code to a lockbox that had contained a physical key that did work. When we walked in, we were surprised to see that the room did not represent what we saw on the website. We were too tired to think about it too much. But we started to notice that the place was not taken care of that well. The shade was broken allowing for someone to see inside. The shower fixture didn’t work properly. The room and bathroom overall felt so cramped. We were honestly disappointed but was willing to accept it. However, shortly after we put some waters in the fridge, we were greeted by a roach dashing across. We decided to call the next morning, Friday to have someone address the issue and we were told this is normal and that they are called palmetto bugs. They gave us a sense that it is what it is. That this is normal and for it be expected. However, we were told they would send someone to spray that day. Unfortunately, we were never informed if they ever came. Which makes me question if anyone did come. We tried to sleep on that Friday night, but I woke up to find a roach around 4am crawling above my wife’s head near the wall. I had to wake my wife to move back so that I could try to kill it. I was able to kill it but neither of us really could fall asleep afterwards. On early Saturday morning we spoke to Alyssa and when we told her our situation, she just stayed quiet. She told us she couldn’t do anything until the manager was in at 9am. That someone would give us a call back. That never happened. We tried calling back a few times, but no one answered. Eventually, when we called, we spoke to Anthony and he told us they could give a 30% discount. Unfortunately, Anthony himself was not kind, apologetic or understanding at all. We went back and discovered that there are other reviews expressing a similar poor experience with him. When we asked why he didn’t call, he told us he’s too busy managing all the other properties. In our conversation he told us we could get 30% off or cancel it with a full refund. For us to find other accommodations. They offered to switch us to another room within The Retreat building, but thought this would make no difference? We did tell them we wish for them to do a thorough cleaning that morning before we can decide. We never accepted either option but upon calling back to accept the cancelation we were told that we could no longer cancel and can only accept the 30 percent. They did not make any effort whatsoever to contact us at all during the day or to follow up. My wife had told them she suffers from asthma if they can make accommodations and make sure the place is clean. It was not. And with the roach suffered an asthma response, cough and eyes swelling up. But they didn’t care. She has ended up having to use a nebulizer for the past days. Eventually, we decided to leave early on Saturday because who wouldn't? We will not be returning to Anna Maria Inn or any other their properties. And we highly discourage anyone who is thinking of coming.

This place was stunning! I had been searching online for something close to bradenton because we were visiting friends. I came across this property and then searched it on instagram and tiktok. there are multiple properties so you have to be careful what you choose based on your preferences ( they’re all on the same strip but some are across the street from the beach) we stayed at “seaside” which was directly on the beach with literally our sliding room door opening onto a patio on the sand! it was SO dreamy! I saw a review that said there were a few upstairs rooms and that when booking it’s not guaranteed which one you get. When calling to speak with someone he confirmed the same thing. There is one room (room 201) that’s a little smaller than the others and does not have a sofa in it. this one is guaranteed to be on the bottom floor so this is the one i booked. It was just me and my husband so i was okay with no sofa as my luggage usually just sits on it anyway lol. all rooms to my knowledge are king size beds and the beds were super comfortable ! AC works fantastic and there’s a little mini fridge you can stop at the food store and grab some snacks and beverages for your stay but the reception check in area also has available for purchase which was very convenient (snacks, beers, non alc beverages ). Checking in was super easy and quick and the girls at the desk are the best :) they have fresh water with fruit in it available for you upon check in and i would stop in there a couple times a day if i just needed a refreshment. The pool is in a great spot and because the resort is so small it makes it so easy to pop from the water into the pool! The only thing i didn’t love is that the pool is heated and it was 90 degrees outside everyday, so the first day the pool was hot, the others were warm but still was nice to jump in. i just wouldn’t say it’s “refreshing” as it’s not cool. The room has a hairdryer, mini fridge, steamer, and a great TV with good channels. There was no safe for your belongings which i didn’t love because we carry cash on us. I saw some of the other guests using a broom to sweep the sand off the deck but our room didn’t have one, not sure if it was because of the type of room i had or they brought it from home lol someone came daily and gave fresh towels and swept for us. The water is beautiful and was so clear. i’ve never been to the gulf coast before and this is the BEST spot for sunsets & pictures. If anyone is wondering what the red lights all over the island (and at night on the resort) are for, It has to do with protecting turtles during nesting season. there isn’t really anything in “walking” distance food and bar wise unless u wanna go on a good walk but it was too hot for us and im 5 months pregnant but everything was literally a 1-3 min drive. super close and so many great places to choose from. when checking in they give you a list of all the restaurants nearby. This place isn’t cheap, but 100000% worth it and i’m so happy I was able to experience it with my husband and the weather was great.

Anthony,

I am writing to inform you of our stay and the complications we encountered. First and foremost, our accomodations and the service we experienced were completely unacceptable. Your website conveys your establishment with the most idealistic presentation. The images your website post are completely misleading and are far removed from reality.

First, we were provided an email with an address of 2218. Before arriving I took the time to google map the address and walked the property. It looked inline with what we thought was an acceptable unit. This along with several calls to your property helped us confirm our choice to book our unit. Upon our arrival we were told our unit was not 2218, but 2300 unit 102. We then asked why our email explicitly lays out 2218 as the location. Your staff explained you use 2218 to direct people to 2300. I find this extremely misleading and absolutely unnecessary. 2300 has it own address and has parking both along side as well as in front of the property. There is no need to mislead individuals and try to justify the less than honest practice. Still confused and unhappy with the explanation we proceeded to unit 102.

What we experienced subsequently was beyond unacceptable. Every part of the unit was in disrepair: 1.Hallway lights did not work and we had to use the breaker to bypass the light switch. 2.All the lights in the living area did not work. 3.The chairs on the deck were completely rusted out and the straps were broken. 4.The chairs at the kitchen table were rusted at the feet and seat. 5.The kitchen table was leveled out with paper towels. 6.The oven was rusted. 7.Most ceilings throughout the unit were stained. 8.Walls were stained. 9.The bathroom was a complete disaster. 10.The tub was black in parts and dirty. 11.The bathroom cabinets were falling apart and paint was pealing throughout. 12.Overall the unit was extremely dirty and disgusting. 13.The refrigerator did not get cold enough. 14.Bugs in our bed. 15.The pull out couch was stained on all parts. 16.The chairs in the living room did not have covers and the white inner fill was stained. 17.No shampoo or conditioner in bathroom.

We travel quite frequently both domestically and internationally. This was one of the worst experiences. To further the horrible experience, the other couple involved were married at your property 5 years prior to this stay. This was to be a celebration of their marriage and new year. They have resided in Sarasota for years and are very familiar with the area and other owners along Anna Maria Island. Everyone in the party is extremely unhappy and cannot believe this is a product you are selling to customers.

The pricing of the unit was the ultimate kick in the face. For a two day stay your group has the audacity to charge $1847.00. I understand it was New Year's Eve, but even with that factor the unit should not be rented out to anyone in its condition. Also, only two of the four units were booked while we were there. High demand is not an excuse either. We visited other properties while we were on the island and your pricing was far beyond anything we found. Again, we picked your property because of your misleading presentation as well as entertaining a couple that rented your property for their wedding. We believe we should be fully refunded. I do not find the unit we occupied to be acceptable to anyone especially for $1847.00. We were told by your staff "the property was renovated". Unfortunately we were charged a premium for a unit that was not. I hope to hear from you soon. Thank you and Happy New Year.

We have emailed the GM twice and left a message with the front desk. No response or acknowledgement thus far. We also spoke with the front desk during our stay as well as on...

BEWARE OF SEA BREEZE! $700+ per night- this building is in shambles. It's incredibly unethical of this business to represent their "brand" through fancy TikTok videos and other pictures, which aren't representative of all of their properties. I'd like to share thorough details to save others from being robbed of thousands of dollars in the future...

The Sea Breeze location is an old, 4-unit apartment complex that AMI Inn acquired and slapped their name on. The good (the great) is the beach location is fantastic. And that's where the good ends! The bad is endless...

The building sits about 20ft. off the main road- anyone sensitive to road noise should avoid this location. Two of the four units must contend with public parking quite literally right outside their window. Headlights, door slamming, and foot traffic will deteriorate the experience for Sea Breeze guests.

The interior of the units are dreadful- see pictures. The active water leak was pronounced, with mold and mildew growing down multiple walls. The AC vent in the bathroom was absolutely disgusting. The floor beside the furnished plunger (yuck) was covered in mold. The water penetration into this property is so bad it probably should be deemed uninhabitable by the Department of Health.

Most of the light bulbs in the kitchen were burned out (picture attached). Throughout the unit was a mix of old halogen bulbs and new LED bulbs, giving the place a slummy feeling like you'd see in a movie scene. The unit is scarcely furnished and decorated, and what is there is very old and visibly filthy.

The bedrooms are so small they won't fit a dresser or anywhere to unpack- we lived out of suitcases for a week. The closets have plenty of room for a dresser to go in, but this place is clearly too cheap for that! So don't plan on getting too comfy- you'll be tripping over your luggage and possessions throughout your stay!

The AC units are on top of the building. They must be out of balance or otherwise needing service because they emit an incredibly pronounced vibration and bellowing noise that vibrates throughout the entire unit. If you're booking in Summertime, plan for this to be a part of your stay.

Lastly, the units advertise on AMI Inn's website as including washer and dryers, which are absolutely CRITICAL for our family when we book trips. We gladly seek out and pay extra for these amenity. Guess what? No washer/dryer units! False advertising! Deceptive advertising! I brought this to the properties attention via text but no response.

I paid $800 per night for this dump, and only hope and pray to save someone from this awful property, and awful management. How they're using fancy videos as "brand standards" is unethical. It's not right!

Dear management: I've seen your response to other negative reviews that you'd "wish we'd brought these concerns to your attention so you could address it," but lets be honest, you don't mean that! All of this neglect isn't an accident or an oversight- it's cheap owners who are filled with greed. You should be ashamed to systematically deceive vacationers and steal their money so you can line...
