This review is based on poor customer service. We had a 2 night stay in a first floor room. Day 2 we had left for the day to go to a Red Sox game. Came back to our room and immediately noticed some of our bathroom items had been moved but figured it was because they had cleaned the room because also the beds were made. I used the restroom. As I stood in front of the sink I saw water drip from the ceiling so I looked up and saw several ceiling tiles gone, dirty water spots in the sink, and noticed the socks I was wearing were getting wet from where I was standing in front of the sink. It became obvious there had been a major water leak. We then noticed several of our personal items were either soaking wet or were gone all together. One missing item was an electric toothbrush and one thing that got wet was a handmade leather toiletries bag. We immediately told the front desk staff on duty. He said he knew that there had been a leak in the room above ours but didn’t know that our room had been affected. He got on the phone with someone and said the person who handled it claimed he hadn’t done anything with our personal items even though they were gone. No one had bothered to contact us when the leak happened to let us know. I understand this is an old converted building and leaks happen, but to not even call us to let us know it happened and just let us find everything the way we did? The desk staff person did move us to another room on our insistence, which was good, but it has now been 2 weeks since our stay and they have not done anything to remedy the inconvenience of this experience or the fact that some of our personal items were destroyed and some missing. No one was available at the desk to talk to later that evening or the next morning even though it was after 8am on a Monday. Someone called us after we returned home and asked us to “prove” that our items were ruined or missing (prove you once had something and now you don’t??) and never offered to give us a refund, even partially, for our stay. Needless to say, we will not be staying here ever again due to the poor customer service by...
Read moreGreat location on Beacon Street. Julie and her staff are friendly and do their best to address all issues and requests. We've stayed here many times.
Rooms vary a great deal. Our room for this stay had a nice bay window looking out through the trees over Beacon Street which of course means you will hear the trolleys going by.
We've stayed in this room before and on arrival noticed that the refrigerator/freezer that had been in the room was missing. The staff quickly rounded one up from somewhere.
The room has a serious lack of electric outlets (typical of older buildings). There is a desk in the bay window area which is quite nice but nowhere to plug in anything including a light. Behind the night stand on one side of the bed there is an outlet at floor level which had the lamp and clock filling both plugs. On the other side of the bed there is no outlet which also means no reading light. In the whole room there were two available plugs, one behind a chair and another behind the refrigerator. In the past we have provided the Inn with this information and some simple solution ideas. Nothing has been done.
Lighting is another issue. Primary light is a ceiling fixture along with a light on one side of the bed. There is an additional light by the chair, but the lamp shade is so dark that it provides little illumination.
There is no place in the room for two guests to enjoy some takeout. The desk would work well, especially with the view out the bay window, but there is no appropriate second chair to pull over.
This room does not have an air conditioner which meant having the windows open. Remember the trolleys. Most rooms appear to have window units. Lack of place to plug in an A/C unit might be the problem for this room.
The Beacon Inn has a lot of character and as mentioned has a great location and staff. The room we were in could be really special with the addition of some power strips, lamps and an air...
Read moreWe stayed here in early July for 8 days. We were booked for 4 days for a conference, then added more time so we could vacation in the area. Because of this, we ended up in 3 different rooms, but that was not the hotel’s fault.
The first room was the Symphony room at the top and front of the building. The room was large and well appointed, but there was glitter everywhere. This wasn’t new glitter, it was in the carpet, the floorboards, the bedspread, the furniture, the bathroom, and had been for a while.
The second room was just above the entry facing the street. We were concerned it would be noisy, but it was certainly tolerable. No glitter here.
The third room was on the second highest floor at the back of the building, and had two queen beds, and a corridor to the private bathroom. It was an odd layout, but it worked.
The breakfast was pretty minimal. Some grocery store croissants, granola bars, mini boxes of cereal, and a couple of days there were oranges and bananas. Coffee and tea supplies were also available. There was a small seating area just off the front stoop outside to enjoy these.
If you aren’t able to do stairs, you need to find somewhere else to stay as there is no other option at all. The air conditioning worked well in all our rooms, the staff was responsive (though we didn’t ask for anything), and the wi-fi was good. It was super convenient to our conference, the transit and local restaurants just down the street. We’d...
