Reporting herein a very rude attitude from the Squibb house over the phone last night Aug 31,2023 at around 7pm. No matter how nice the hotel, the room or subsequent service, the first contact matters and can ruin any vacation. I expected to arrive at 5-7 pm, but due to closure of Hwy 1 from SF (unaware by me), got stuck in detour and heavy traffic to101. So around 7pm, while on 101S, I called in reception to tell them of The person over the phone refused to confirm my reservation. And told me that Booking should send me instructions to checkin. Got email from Booking without info for checkin. Got Squibb email which I ignored. So I panicked thinking a snafu from Booking. Asked him just to confirm since I could not check my email while driving on 101S. He absolutely refused. Told me next stop to check my email. No empathy, keep repeating that Squibb is like Airbnb. I need to call Booking for information. To call Booking at 9pm over the phone to some Call Center. Panick, what happens if arriving at 10pm and found mistake. Asked him just to confirm my reservation . If no reservation, Icould stop someplace to check in another hotel right then. He still refused. He ignored ,kept saying Squibb like Airbnb, that you have to talk to the agent you booked with. From all the good reviews, I never realized that Squibb is an Airbnb. Thought it was a nice boutique hotel like many along California coastal inns. Expected a nice relaxed evening, instead worried to death until I arrived in Cambria at 10 pm and was able to check my email for instructions. The phone attitude foe the Squibb representative cannot be tolerated!! A weird observation : was asked where I came from if I need to turn around, answered “ San Francisco”, then a reply “just have to check your...
Read moreVery quaint and cute B&B off the main street in town. Ended up staying in the Cherry room, which is one of the more modern rooms in the barn house. Very nice design, although some design/construction flaws like the walk-in shower room that leaves water all over the floor (can be dangerous for some people). The bed was too soft for us. And it really needs a ceiling fan, as there is very little air flow. But it was very cute, and the separate entrance with a rocking chair was nice.||We started out in the original Squibb House, in the Garden room with a private entrance. It's very quaint and historic, not modernized -- if you're into that. :). The clawfoot tub was enticing but smaller than it looks in photos. It's deep but short, and the drain prevents it from filling up more than 1/2 way. Sitting outside the front of the Squibb in rocking chairs sipping wine in that sweet garden was nice. ||We left the Garden room because there was a huge party (with most of the rooms booked by the partiers, so essentially we were surrounded by them walking past our room and every window) so it was not a peaceful stay. The owner ended up finding a room elsewhere for us until the partiers left. (Word to the wise: Don't book there on Labor Day weekend if you want a quiet/peaceful stay, as this same group of partiers apparently comes every year).||The breakfast was decent, eggs and sausages, yogurt with...
Read moreThe 2nd floor Oak room of this impressively rebuilt barn was superb. Amish furniture throughout. Stylish decor. Very comfortable window seat. The shower was spacious and modern. The deck is a quiet open space, though the concrete surface was broken in two places. Parking is on a public street, or dirt ground behind. The breakfast had a personal touch with the tiny home made egg dishes, though otherwise it was undistinguished with no fresh muffins or pastries. Too many items from Costco. Local honeys, etc., are available and would be a nice touch, and supportive of local producers. To feel more pampered, which the price ($245 + taxes + fees) suggests, would be good. The destination fee per night of $42; I forgot to ask what that was for. The whole town is walkable, including down to the Fiscalini Reserve bluff hiking (a highlight). I dropped a star for the adequate but not spectacular breakfast, and lack of private parking. We would 100% return. Great location experience. Thanks Tiffany and Brian! (Please excuse me...
