THE HAPPY BAKERY ! After almost a week on vacation in picturesque Cambria we decided to pull the pin a day early at our Airbnb house on the coast. This way we could leave later in the day rather than the 10am check-out time on Wednesday. And to break up the 6 hour drive home to Irvine we were overnighting in Santa Barbara. BUT FIRST ! After parking our wheels nearby in Church Street my wife and I arrived here around 12.20pm to have lunch. We bought some take-out food here a couple of days ago and everything tasted excellent. A young guy named Justin stood behind the counter ready to help us. Can you make us a couple of good lattes I asked....no prob was his reply. AND HE DID ! Our very well made lattes with 2% milk and Monin hazelnut syrup tasted fabulous. For lunch my wife ordered an Italian Meatball Sandwich ( meatballs in a rich tomato sauce, provolone cheese, pepperoncini peppers on a French roll ). LOTS OF CHOICE ! There was a lot of nice sounding sandwiches on the menu board but I have a soft spot for Torta rolls. I asked Justin what was in the Milanesa Torta....breaded beef was his reply. He said it was one of his favs. Good enough for me.....I ordered a Milanese Torta ( breaded beef, mayo, avocado, onions, tomato, Mexican cheese, salsa & jalapeños on toasted fresh bread ). Meanwhile we sat at our table in the corner enjoying our rich creamy lattes. Within a few short minutes our lunch order came out to our table. WOW ! These guys know how to knock out great looking sandwiches. WHOO HOO ! My wife was in raptures devouring her Meatball Sandwich......totally succulent meatballs. OMG ! I've had a few darn delicious sandwiches in my life but my huge mouthwatering Milanesa Torta would be in the top 3 of all time......flavor flavor flavor with a nice kick in the tail ! Everything here had tasted so good we had to take something with us like dessert. Another friendly cashier named Luis helped us out when my wife selected a Chocolate Raspberry Cream Cake and I went for a slice of the Chocolate Oblivion. Let me tell you that we had these cakes for dessert at our hotel suite in Santa Barbara that evening.....and they were incredibly delicious. The high level of food, drinks and service here was the best...

This was the worst service I've ever had. This morning, we arrived hungry and eager to try the delicious sounding sandwiches. When we walked in, we were the only customers in the establishment. We ordered our sandwiches, a couple of drinks, and left a generous tip in the jar. We found a cozy spot to sit down inside and made ourselves comfortable. Over 15 minutes passed and we were still waiting for our food. My partner addressed the young man behind the counter and politely asked how long it would be before our order would be ready. He looked confused, asked if we had ordered drinks and my partner told him our sandwich order. He stepped back into the kitchen and proceeded to tell us "they aren't making your sandwiches and I don't know why. What do you want to do". His tone was rude, offered no apology and looked annoyed. We asked if we could have our sandwiches in the next few minutes. He shrugged and said "I don't know". At this point we became a bit irritated. He offered a refund but no apologies. I asked to speak to a manager and he replied "there is no manager". I asked who the owner was and he replied "there is no owner". At this point he had still not refunded our money. We asked for a refund and he asked again what our order was. Quite irritated, we told him for a third time. His reply was that we were crazy, that he was not scared of us even though we gave him no reason to be, that he was just an employee and that he was going to kick us out. He continued that it was just food and that we shouldn't be upset about food. And he still had not returned our money. This employee clearly did not understand why we were upset. My partner gave up on us getting a refund and walked out. He finally handed me a refund and I walked away. The whole exchange was...

Absolutely horrible experience!!! Traveling with friends from France who were excited to see a “French” bakery in the US. Went in for coffee and pastries and my friend said in French “Good morning, we are from France, do you happen to speak French?” The young woman at the register was polite and said, “sorry, I don’t speak French,” but the barista making coffee went ballistic. He told her, “Speak to them in Spanish if they think this is a joke!!! See how much HE understands We don’t need people coming in here thinking they’re being all funny speaking French… Let’s hear your Spanish then!!!” Unbelievable. Trying to calm the guy down, my friend pointed to me and told him that I spoke Spanish but the barista continued to harass us in English. To make matters worse, regulars coming in after us were greeted by this guy IN SPANISH and he proceeded to talk about us IN SPANISH. Here’s the deal, if you market yourself as a F R E N C H bakery with a huge mural of P A R I S behind the cash register, you might attract F R E N C H speaking people. This guy was hostile and toxic and doesn’t deserve to work there. Hope the owner finds out as we have been referring people to Lynn’s Pies up the street. AVOID...

The FRENCH CORNER BAKERY reminds my wife and me of our lovely honeymoon, 55 years ago, in Acapulco Mexico. Yes, it's called "French," but deliciously prepared, lovingly baked, beautifully presented bakery goods are an international pleasure. There's the fresh baked Mexican Bolillos, a football shaped, pillow soft roll, encased in a crisp crust. (Kinda like a baguette.) The French Corner also bakes a selection of fruit filled sweet rolls, bagels, tortas, pies, tarts, cakes and breads. The staff is friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. In the morning, I have enjoyed conversation with visitors from many countries. Locals tell me, this is their favorite morning stop. Rich expresso and brewed coffee drinks and teas are offered. Sandwiches are made with their fresh multi-grain breads, bolillos and baguettes. We've been coming here for years and strangely enough TheFrench Bakery seems to be getting better. I don't know how this is possible? STUFF: Limited seating, inside and out. Parking in their small lot is free and easy. Everything is wheelchair accessible.

My wife and I travel to Paso Robles often. Almost monthly, from Orange County. Our routine is to drive from wherever we're staying to this bakery, order a couple of sandwiches, and take them to Harmony Cellars a few miles down Highway One to enjoy with a bottle of their excellent Chardonnay. My wife always orders their pork milanesa, and I always get their veggie sandwich, the "Mother Nature". Of course we also have to get a slice of carrot cake or some other sweet for dessert. The place is always busy, but they have plenty of friendly and efficient help to speed things along. The sandwiches are consistently big and tasty. We love everything they do. It's a favorite of locals and tourists alike, so you know it's good.

Waking up late is our thing when we're on vacation. A nice light breakfast snack was on our mind. I ordered a spinach tomato and cheese pastry. She got a fresh fruit tart decorated with strawberries, peaches and blueberries! She had a food-gasm! Paired with hot coffee which was not watered down, we left the nice bakery with an extra box of sorted tartlets for later. The ambiance was homely and welcoming. The staff was very hospitable and thankful for our visit. I highly recommend this place for breakfast since visiting the many places for food prior leave one wanting a light snack for breakfast.
