Aside from the absolutely adorable goals of this coffee shop ("furthering the spirit and well-being of our neighborhood," etc.) the coffee and food is great! I had a tasty Spiced Americano - an Americano infused with Cardamon Cinnamon tea. It sounds kind of weird but I was SO glad I decided to be adventurous today. With a little bit of honey, the spiced blended perfectly with the coffee to make a delightful, warm drink, perfect for a snowy day. My boyfriend had the Mexican hot chocolate. Topped with thick whipped cream, it was decadent and rich, as hot chocolate should be! To make things even better, the drinks were served in stout glass mugs - very hipster. We also tried their chicken curry sandwich and their new butternut squash melt. Both were delicious on crunchy-crushed sourdough. Topping it off at the end, we shared a giant chocolate chip cookie. It was clear that 1369 were making good on their goals - spontaneous conversations began all around us on topics ranging from micro-biomes to careers with the FBI. A couple of regulars were sitting by us for a bit - after one of them left, the other commented to a different stranger that they didn't know each other outside of the coffee shop, but got to know each other as regulars at this cozy...
Read moreIn 2002 I started coming here. I hated it. The coffee was good, but the servers were the tattooed version of "Sean" in the white Kangol hat and impeccable sneakers trying to sell me Methadone (you know Sean). One day Josh took over (maybe 2007?) and I got a survey about the experience. In a way I was offended... I was finally adapting to the service with a condescending sneer, pretentious music played at 100 decibels and annoying customers speaking loudly about their anachronistic use of turntables with the stuck-up employees. But what can I say? Josh turned this place into somewhere special. Go there... just park behind Ole and go there... it's real and lovely and decent and someplace to make into a part of you. I always mention price... and it's totally fine. But just sit there for a while especially from 8AM-10AM and watch the mix of people who visit and enjoy the space. It's just a good place to...
Read moreI went here after hearing it was rated Best Boston Coffee Shop of 2018. Boy, was this mistaken. The coffee was utterly expensive and the menu was filled with surcharges all over - for almost everything. I went with a cafe au lait with oatmilk ($1 more).
Hoping the latte would live up to expectations I was excited to try. Unfortunately, it did not. The latte was absolutely disgusting. The coffee had no flavor - I would go as far to say that the coffee had a taste resembling dishwasher. I was absolutely disgusted that this $5 coffee was flavorless. I frequent Blue Bottle, Pavement, Wired Puppy, and Gracenote for my own beans. Those coffees are made well and the beans are fresh.
Additionally, wifi is $4 an hour to use, $7 for the whole day. Why charge for wifi when everything else is already being surcharged?
Overall, disappointed in this...
