I gave two stars only because i'm still in denial that this place sucks now! I's like breaking up with someone you loved because they turned out to be a jerk. This once favorite coffee/ delicious pastry place of mine has been consistently bad so i have to let them go and get over it. I must have gone there six times after I said i will never go back, only to see if they were just having an off day. Twice they gave me reg milk which made me sick all day, i'm lactose intolerant, another time full caffeine instead of decaf even though i painstaking asked for decaf. Going so far as to explain that i'm breast feeding and can't do full caffeine just yet. After numerous times of going back and they no having almond milk and the croissant all of a sudden tasting like stale bread. i am one of those people who, when i find a good thing , I stick to it, so I always got almond milk lattes or a tea and a croissant (they USED to have the best Croissants). The change and quality has so drastically dropped I had to call and complain, along with the fact that their mocha made me sick. They tried to convince me nothing had changed but after the second or third time of subpar service and Quality, the manager came clean with me and admitted that they had changed the pastry chef and the baker they have now uses pre frozen dough for the croissants and basically said he knows almond milk would is an option but they hardly carry it because it's expensive. To that end, i thanked him for being frank with me and thought ok i guess I can continue to support them. I'll get teas instead of lattes and a brownie instead of a croissant. This time the brownie made me throw up and the tea, although it's the same price as before, they can only give you in a small cup. I even out of desperation ordered a SOY (which we all know is inflammatory and bad for you!) cappuccino and that also bad, and by bad i mean bitter and lumpy. I had to walk back to my office in the rain, yet again disappointed and with a nauseated taste in my mouth! That's it for me Barismo. you have wronged me way to often ans your excuses a lame !! I pay you half of my hourly wage so i can enjoy my coffee break and this is what you give me....It's over...I'm done.. you lost the most loyal customer you never knew you had:P! I'll drive ..in traffic if i have to to get a decent croissants form Whole Foods and a great latte from Simon's...
Read moreAfter finding Dwelltime on a Thrillist list of top coffee shops in Boston, we ventured down Broadway to its unassuming location with our books in hand, ready for good coffee, breakfasty bites, and a relaxing atmosphere. What we encountered was something much different. Brunch was being served, so we were seated with menus by a waitress in the somewhat loud space (made louder by the screaming child just one table over). The menu boasted that it was from December 2014, so it seems that at least some of the offerings change monthly. Looking to be warmed up on a chilly day, I ordered the pineapple spice oat bowl, and the bf got the frittata with roasted veggies. For drinks, the Guatemalan pour-over was delicious with some fruity notes. The machiatto was a bit too bitter for my liking, but my caffeine-centric partner drank it with gusto. And it had some art on top, which I'm always a sucker for. The food came, and it was just kind of lukewarm. I need my oatmeal hot to maximize comfort, so I asked them to please warm it up for me. They took my bowl away, and I had a wait a good amount of time to get it back (how long does it take to stick something in the microwave?), When I did take a new spoonful, it was a bit warmer but still not piping. Fine enough. The pineapple mixture on top was nice - not overly sweet and flavored in a Caribbean motif with cinnamon and rum. The fruit bowl on the side was meh - melons (filler fruit, if you ask me), a few pineapples (which I already had enough of in my bowl), and mango (the best part). The oats under the pineapple topping were pretty tasteless, so I wasn't tempted to finish the bowl (which I guess could be a positive thing?). The fritatta on the other hand was much more flavorful and really cheesy. The roasted veggies on the side were also done well, although again I would have preferred it to be served hotter. And another disappointing fruit cup made an appearance. The portion was pretty small, so I would not order these brunch items if you're trying to get the most "bang for your buck." Considering the noise level and waitress checking on us every few minutes, D-Time is not the type of place to lounge with a good read. We ate, caffeinated up, and headed out to find somewhere that actually embodied the coffee shop experience. It was fine, but one of the best cafes in Boston? I'm not sure that Thrillist editor...
Read moreIt is a nice place we have been visiting for years - one of best espressos in Cambridge, and laid back atmosphere. But be ware: they recently started to shut down espresso machine half hour before the closing time. It was very disappointing to learn about it, after sprinting for 25 minutes through the city and showing up at 4:45 pm, 15 minutes before official closing time. Barismo team, (aside from this being a decision, questionable for a place known for good espresso), I think you should make an effort to let customers know about it over the phone, if they call. I called at 4:20 to verify whether you were closed for a special event (happened sometimes on weekends in the past), and your staff member confirmed you were open till 5 pm, without mentioning the espresso machine closing time. Had I known, I would not have come - we ended up not buying anything and going to another coffee shop. Also, the website doesn't mention this at all - you probably want to update it. Right now, the only way to learn about it is to show up and read a small sign on the side of the door, or be turned...
