Disappointed. I had high hopes for this one, but that was not the case. We drove 40 miles to visit Boston Burger in Cambridge. We had recieved a gift card for Christmas. So we picked today to use it. The pictures and reviews looked great. The menu was seemed perfect for someone who loves a good burger like myself. When we went in they asked how many. It was me, my wife and our 5 children. They told us they could not seat us because they are not allowed to seat more than 6 people due to covid restrictions. The place was nearly empty. I said to the staff member that we are all one family. There was some under the breath conversation with another between two employees and then they turned and said we could sit but it had to be two tables at a distance. We agreed. I did not like it, but we agreed. Being discriminated for having a large family is no way to start a "family" dinner. They show us to our tables and the first one is dirty with glass condensation rings still on it and a mask on the floor under the table. They are worried about sitting to many of us together but want to sit us at a dirty table. The waitress came to the table and gave us one menu and the kids their kids menu and then pours us some room temp to warm tap water. We order our food. I ordered a burger with the pulled pork and no pickles. I get the burger and there is a pile of pickles on it. No big deal. The two of the kids burgers did not have the bacon that was ordered on it. The burgers had a taste of being in a fridge to long. Pretty gross. My 4 yr old says " I dont want this because it makes my breath taste bad, I like Wendys burger better". I had to agree with the 4 yr old. He was right. The older kids also ordered small pepsi. Which was completely flat. The burgers were very small as well as they're "freakfrappes". Not impressed. Very pricey for poor quality. We were served all our food with no silverware, straws or napkins. The waitress was clueless. I had to ask for all. There were many insects hovering over our heads around the lights. The bathrooms were filthy. When we were done, and I couldn't wait to get out of there. We go to pay with our gift card and credot card for the balance, and the waitress says "sorry but our gift card machine is not working and so we cannot take your gift card". Like it was no big deal. I went back and forth with her about how we drove over 40 miles to come because we had this gift card and wanted to try this place out, and she could have cared less. Then another guy comes out and says he can run it through another store over the phone but we couldn't get a receipt for it. Seemed strange to me, but at this point im basically throwing hands up. You cant make this up. It was one thing after another. Point is, it was not great food, terrible service, dirty, and discriminated against for having to many children. Ill never go back to...
Read moreGenuinely unlike any experience I've ever had at a bar/restaurant. Me and a friend sat at the bar for $2 burger night and nobody was in charge just hear me out -
The very first thing the bartender said was "sorry I'm talking to a Columbian girl online that wants to marry me" and that was the second to last time we spoke to him in the 1.5hrs we were there tonight. I have service industry experience, not a ton, but I know the bare minimum of fundamentals for working behind a bar and I swear I could have put a 12 year old back there and it would have done a better job than the guy we were unfortunately matched with. He told the group next to us that Modelos were $2 tonight so we ordered two of them, the keg kicked (assuming he doesn't know what changing a keg is) so we told him that we wanted $2 Boston Lagers instead and he said "ok, what about lord hobos?" and we said "no thanks" like we designed the menu. Can't complain because we got $2 Boston Lagers. I probably could have asked for $2 Jamiesons and he wouldn't have known any better.
No utensils or napkins the whole night. Not a glass of water in sight the whole night.
He said to the two guys next to us "are you guys done with these trays?" as he took them away from them cautiously - the guy literally had the burger IN HIS HAND as he took the trays from him. There was one bite taken out of his burger and he spent the rest of his burger sesh just holding it in his hand, no napkin, plate, tray, nothing. Raw burger to the palm with nothing but a bar top beneath him. I couldn't believe my eyes but I couldn't look away just watching this man palm his burger with no other choice but to just carry it with him for 4mins as he sat at the bar until he ate the whole thing. I was truly in awe.
4/8 of the beers on tap were kicked. Our bartender guy spent MAYBE 17% of the time behind the bar and the rest of his time was spent literally (and I mean literally) walking around the dining room, scratching his head. Zero hyperbole - I watched it with my own eyes. He completely shut down when people started coming in.
It was just one of those experiences I'll get maybe 2-3 more times in my life and for that, I'm thankful. Genuinely absurd. I'm not picky, I'm not snobby and I'm compassionate and patient with service industry workers but holy mother of god this was an unmatched experience that neither me nor my co-diner could believe. A bartender who's literally never seen a bar in his godforsaken life and food that has never made me feel more "american" in the worst possible way. The epitome of mid and a spectacle to behold. We had no idea this place existed until we did a google search for good burgers near Harvard Square! It was a Monday evening when we walked less than half a mile away from Harvard Square to this little industrial looking restaurant. We were greeted and sat down quickly. Our waiter was very nice and was quick to answer any questions we had. The menus have tons of options for different fry appetizers and different burgers! We started out with a few drinks and the Pepperoni pizza fries as an appetizer. The fries were a very decent size and easily split between two people. They were a little greasy, but delicious! For main entrees, I got the Buffalo burger and my fiancee got the Killer Bee Burger. My burger was all I could have asked for; a medium cooked burger with buffalo flavoring and bleu cheese dripping down the sides. One yummy mess! My fiancee's burger was topped with onion rings covered in BBQ sauce. Both burgers came with sides of either coleslaw or baked beans and their house-made potato chips. It was a little pricey, but we did go all out with alcoholic drinks, an appetizer AND the burgers. We were stuffed to the brim with food, so if you're on a diet this is the last place you ever want to visit. However, if you are looking to live life to the fullest and enjoy absolutely delicious burgers served with great customer service, you are in the right place!
