Have never been treated in such a unprofessional manner in my life. We had multiple instances where we tried to contact the hotel and did not reach anybody. When I mentioned this later to the manager Sagar I was told that this was my fault as I needed to leave a voicemail. This voicemail policy is nowhere on the site. We had a unfortunate family circumstance where we were unable to make the reservation as we needed to be home to support my parents. I called the hotel twice and got no pickup in the morning. I called again and reached a lady at the reception desk, I voiced to her that I would like to see if cancellation is possible, and was told the account had already been charged for my full stay. I told her that this charge was not communicated to me but that I would go through with the reservation if we were not able to get our money back. I stated that I was upset at the lack of communication/phone pick up in general with the Inn. I was told that the manager Sagar would call me back. When I was called by Sagar, he was immediately aggressive on the phone and accused me of telling "everybody" that he was poor at communication. He told me that we would not get a refund for this, I told him that the manner in which he was speaking to me was very aggressive, I asked him to keep things professional. I was then told that I should be "grateful that he even called because he is supposed to be off right now" He said because I was complaining he wanted to refuse service and threatened to cancel our reservation but WITHHOLD OUR MONEY since he already charged the card, he wanted to deny us service and and essentially STEAL our $1.4k dollars anyway?! He kept berating me on the phone for bothering him during his time off. I told him that I was not informed that he was off duty, and that it is not my fault that he decided to call on his break. In a nasty tone he then sarcastically responded to me saying that it is not "his responsibility that I had a family situation". To someone who is dealing with so much stress trying to support my parents to hear my situation be referred to in such a callous and unempathetic manner was really heartbreaking. I had to repeatedly ask Sagar throughout the conversation to stop verbally attacking me. He told me that we would be staying for 3 whole days and he didn't want to interact with us, so we might as well pay and not show up. I have never heard of a hotel refusing service and charging you despite never even starting your stay. He finally apologized for being "aggressive to me right off the bat" to which I responded that his phone call was a negative experience, and then he snapped back that "he apologized already".
His behavior was very erratic as he went from verbally attacking me to promising me that "I'm the nicest guy you will ever meet" to snapping at me again, his manner of speaking was really unsettling. If a customer has a complaint, you should listen, not attack them and threaten them. The whole stay we were very uncomfortable most times we would use the back door to leave to avoid Sagar and despite the many issues with our room we didn't feel comfortable letting anyone know because of Sagar's reaction. It felt like we were walking on eggshells the whole time.
This is not an isolated incident by the looks of it. Looking through the other reviews I have found multiple talking about how Sagar repeatedly raised his voice at guests and how he behaves aggressively. I'm shocked that upper level management has not done anything to address this behavior and has continued to allow this man to bully customers.
In terms of the accommodations, we stayed in the Portofino room, the room was spacious but had a musty scent, possibly due to the old carpeting. The walls are paper thin, so you can hear everybody in the lobby, starting at 7:15 am you hear the clatter of plates.
We spent over $1,400 at this establishment and got a mediocre room and were treated with a lack of basic...

You are also not allowed to order breakfast before eight a.m. So if you have to get somewhere, you will need to skip your breakfast. Not that it is a big loss. Very uninspiring, non innovative breakfasts. One morning we got buttermilk pancakes with melted whipped cream and powdered sugar, the batter tasted like a cheap box version. The small cup of fruit was not fresh and only consisted of cantaloupe, honeydew and some green grapes. At least the 2 grapes were fresh. Also 2 sausages which we replaced with turkey sausages; they were disgusting. A glass of orange juice and a strong cup of coffee are the beverages. The other morning we got waffles. They were spongy without any crisp edges, lacking fluffiness, taste or berries. Again, we got the same fruit, sausages and juice. The welcoming cheese and wine consisted of two bottles of wine for all the guests, grapes, olives and crackers, and cubed cheese (that you could buy in a local costco). Once the items were gone, they were not replaced. Again, very underwhelming . On the plus side, they did make cookies that were good. But the cookies are served later in the evening. If you are going for a great food experience, this is not it. The rooms are fine. If you're into history, you may enjoy it. However, please note that the only thing that discusses the history is 2 Typewritten pages left in your room. No tour provided. There is nothing written on any supposed artifacts that explains what you are looking at furniture wise decorator wise or anything else . Convenience wise, I would say this is not the place you want to stay. Most rooms have no new electrical outlets, so be sure to bring your cellphones with a plug for the old outlets. Also, lacking are any hangers. There is not enough light in the room if you want to apply your makeup. The library area is pretty small. There is no conversational seating area. The outside It's not really very inviting. There are some uncomfortable chairs and others with bird poop on them.||I'm really not sure how this place receives high marks. On the plus side, it is a close walking distance to the beach area. But you cannot see the beach. We are not sure how breakfasts received such high ratings from everyone. The four of us are not that picky. We have stayed at embassy, suites and Hampton inns and had better breakfasts. This place is not a value for your money. We recommend you spend less and get more elsewhere. For sure, I would take away the B for breakfast. Yes you get a bed. Hope you like high pillows. All all very...
Read moreI selected Inn at Depot Hill as it seemed like an historic and interesting place. The room themes were well appointed, professionally done. You would have to look at the pictures. I really don't know what to think about this place. It appears to have been a very popular Inn at one time, well worth the price. ||I think the best way to review this hotel is to do a list of Pros and Cons:||Pros:|Nice People|Offers Breakfast to your room|Extremely Clean for the most part|Very Comfortable Bed|Mostly Era Based Decor (in different places)|Nice Architecture, Authentic.||Cons:|Lining to drapes were torn and detached (probably from the sun through the windows and french doors. They need to be re-lined.|Breakfast was only moderately good.|Terrible stains on the shower floor. Didn't want to use it.|The love seat across from the TV had no cushions. They had been worn down and felt like sitting on wood slats. It was not comfortable at all. |When I went to close the french door, the handle almost fell off. I did not feel safe. |There was no-one in the Inn at parts of the day. The Inn was locked up, and it was eerie! |I was served salt and pepper shakers that were so dirty (stained) they were brown in the corners. I wouldn't use them. |The front landscaping needs work. You can hardly see the building through the untrimmed front yard. ||It appears that this place isn't getting the detailed attention it deserves. These are all things that could be fixed quickly and fairly easily. I am afraid the owner is dropping the ball on the details. My opinions are that it will stop being respected as a stellar bed and breakfast Inn. If something is deteriorating, it needs to be fixed and functional, even if it is small. People notice. I noticed. ||I really, really like this place and would love to see it brought back up to the standards it once was. I was moved to a new room and overall it was very comfortable and very clean, even though it still had issues (baseboard heater was falling apart and stains on the floor outside the shower, dings in the baseboard, needs new carpet. It made me question their prices if the Inn isn't being maintained. ||I used to be a real estate broker. I learned that buyers notice every flaw, even if only subconsciously. No matter how small or of little importance, it is noticed and remembered. Personally, I think there should always be someone there supervising the Inn. It shows dedication and attention to detail.||Best wishes to The Inn at Depot Hill. I will watch reviews to determine if I...
