In our travel group, we had three couples stay at three different accomodations while in Carmel. One of the couples stayed here, in Best Western.
While walking around, the couple staying at the Best Western needed to stop by their room, so we walked over and waited on a little sitting space, not crowding (4 people) and generally just waiting with gentle conversation.
No less than 2 minutes later, someone approached us. No greeting - first words were "Whats your room number?" I gave them the room number of the couple staying there, "That's only for 2 people", indicating to the four people quietly waiting.
I was thrown off by such hostility. We were eventually given the "okay" to wait, and the person disappeared as quickly as they had appeared.
I'm not sure how I generally feel about this. We actually needed to stay for an additional night, and was originally planning on the Best Western ~ but this experience quickly changed our minds. If we return to Carmel, we would NOT choose the Best Western.
I'm not sure if this was a factor, but we were not a primarily white group ~ and when we encountered the staff again, we noticed that the only person who was treated well was tall,...
Read moreMy wife and I enjoyed our stay here. Overall it was clean and in a great location. The staff were also really friendly.
The continental breakfast was better than most, for sure. The eggs were not just edible, but actually very well prepared, the sausages were too. I was also surprised how good the donuts were! If I'd bought them at donut shop I would've been happy with their quality, high praise for continental hotel breakfast donuts!
The rooms are a little noisy. It could just be bad neighbor's, but I think things could be quieter. Perhaps exacerbating things is that there doesn't appear to be an AC unit to help cover up unwanted sounds. The bathrooms are large, with good water pressure, but the rooms do feel a little worn and outdated. They are clean though, so that's good (I did a thorough bedbug check and didn't find any unwanted critters lurking about).
The view is pretty, especially above the 2nd floor. Parking was sufficient too. I wish the prices were a little lower, but it's Carmel so this is about as affordable as it gets. Overall a pretty good experience. We'd...
Read moreWe stayed in room 219 in mid-February 2021. I forgot to write the review in 2021, so I'm writing it today (3/30/2022). The location of the motel is fantastic. There's free onsite parking and the motel is very close to downtown Carmel. Room 219 is on the far end of the second floor, near an outdoor "terrace." It would be great fun to hang out on the "terrace" on a warm evening, but it was pretty cold when we were there. Nonetheless, it was still fun to be near it. Room 219 has a mini-fridge, which we greatly appreciated, but no microwave. We've stayed at three different motels in Carmel and none of them had microwaves; it must be a "law" in Carmel. Room 219 was clean and decent; no complaints there. We stayed there during "covid season," so no hot breakfasts were served. That's fine; we get it. The motel did offer a daily "grab and go" bag (granola bar, small juice, etc). The owners, Sanjay and Marie, were very friendly. I'm giving this motel a 3-star rating for a "good" experience. A daily hot breakfast plus a microwave in each room would bump my...
