Had such a wonderful stay here over Christmas with my mom and younger sister who is in college. I brought my dog, Phaedrus along as well he is a 2 yo German Shepard/ pitbull mix.
First of all the property is very cute. Quiet and unassuming but pretty and very well maintained. Parking is no problem and the location is ideal. Close to everything downtown but more importantly the beach.
The breakfast is incredible, I am actually obsessed with their mini quiches. I really can't say enough about them. They also had trays so you could take food back to your room if you wanted. Wide variety of options too, my family is very particular. My mom eats yogurt and fruit, I only eat eggs, and my sister only eats pastries. They had something for each of us- thatNEVER happens. I also loved that they had dvds to borrow and a long list of movies. It was a fun thing to do w my family and they even had a holiday movie list ready- the best ones too (national lampoon, elf, miracle on 34, etc).
The room was perfect for us and what we needed. First time traveling w my dog and wasn't sure what to expect from a dog friendly place but it was perfect. It's weirdly cold in California right now but the heating worked perfectly and the rooms were stocked with extra blankets and all.
And omg the bathroom. That's what I dream of having as my own. Heater on the floor for when you step out of the shower. Shower had proper double curtains. Large bath tub with jets. Great water pressure. Lots of storage and towel space but clean and minimalist here. The dog friendliness of this place was AWESOME. Everyone had a dog and so everyone "got it" - I'm training my dog right now b Ed I just got him five months ago. So making him wait at corners or sit brandimly WSnt seen as weird. They also carry my Favorite dog treats(soho) and sell them there forway cheaper than I can find in sf.
I had two qualms: - one was that while the mother daughter duo were the kindest most helpful women ever -the evening manager had a condescending disposition. I did not appreciate that. And secondly, and this is our fault but they advertise in room spa services. The women who gave us our massage and facials were very nice but not the true spa experience. There was a miscommunication about how much space we had and that made it tightht and then on top of that they are just not luxurwtighty treatments. I just would recommend not doingthein roomtreatments. Spend the extra money and go to a real spa.
Overall we have decided to make this a tradition and cannot wait...
Read moreWe live in Reno and were looking for a romantic getaway for our honeymoon that was only a drive away. Due to COVID, any hope of a European getaway was lost. After spending the week in the Midwest for our wedding, we wanted to take our two pups with us.
First I want to say, Carmel, CA is super dog friendly. The beach is a 10 minute walk from the B&B through an adorable residential area. The dogs were able to swim and had a blast running around with the other dogs there.
We stayed in the Deluxe One Bedroom King Suite. Our parking space was immediately outside of our room, which was great! The room was very clean and cozy. We used the fireplace every day along with keeping the patio door open for fresh air. Because their is no central air, the B&B offers two fans for circulation. The standing unit in the bedroom was perfect at night for noise and comfort. The bathroom had a huge jet tub and a heated floor. The bed was very comfortable too!
We felt very at ease staying here during COVID. Breakfast each morning was fantastic. The staff does an amazing job making sure you have what you need but also keeping everyone safe. The breakfast selection was way above your continental breakfast, we loved the quiche and cinnamon bread! You can come by the office anytime and get fresh baked cookies to go too!
There are different packages you can select during your stay, we chose to add on a cake from a local bakery in Monterrey. It was delicious and a treat to have in our room ready for us. Carmel Country Inn also provided lots of resources during your stay including pet friendly restaurants and pet sitters. Downtown Carmel is less than a 5 minute walk from the B&B. There are so many cute shops, bookstores, coffee shops, and restaurants to check out. Also, after spending some time on the beach, there is a dog wash area with soap and towels so you don’t bring the sand back into your room or sheets! Super helpful!
Big Sur and the Bixby bridge are less than 45 mins away. Santa Cruz is an hour drive north. We had such a wonderful time at the Carmel Country Inn, we will definitely be back for another stay! The dogs had the best...
Read moreWe stayed at this Inn in March of this year. It ended up being for only 1 night because of a major power outage in the area. The Inn is a nice location, with nice rooms, and arguably the best bed I have ever slept on. That being said, from a service perspective we are extremely disappointed. The owners were in a tough situation, we were coming up as a wedding party. There was not clear communication with the entire party about the status of power at the hotel. Power outages in this area are commonplace, so there should have been some ability to provide more.
We didn’t have power when we got there. We were provided with a single lantern for the night. We had a gas fireplace in the living room, we used it until bedtime, but then turned it off for our safety. There was no hot water, we had no option to shower, albeit a cold one. We went to the dollar store and got emergency candles for ourselves. I did send an email about updated information and additional options, because it was not going to work to get ready for a wedding. The owner finally showed up and provided charging stations and some other options.
The issue we have is we paid close to $500 for that night. I understand it was outside their control. They should have properly communicated so we could have made other arrangements or at the very least brought emergency supplies. If I hadn’t emailed initially about the situation I would not have heard anything from them. We did change hotels. We asked for a partial refund for the one night because of the inability to enjoy the amenities and the premium cost of the room that night. All we got was an argument with no attempt to make anything right. Even an offer for a discount for a future booking would have been nice. I had considered going again, but after how it was handled I...
