Pros:||Location - The Beach House is squarely located directly on the beach! You can literally walk from your room to the sand and stick your toes into the water within less than three minutes. It gives spectacular views from the balcony (even on the first floor!) of the ocean and sunrises. It is also within walking distance (5-15 minutes on average) of many great restaurants and shops (like Nollies!). It is very easy to get around on foot, which I highly recommend you do, as parking is not going to be an easy feat in any place in Carolina Beach (there are very few parking spaces and the ones you find will likely be pay-for-parking).||Ease of Booking/Checking in/Checking out - The staff have made the process very streamlined and efficient. You get a code for unlocking and locking your door upon check in. There are no physical keys to keep track of, which is wonderful! They also make extensions of your trip very easy to book. ||Price - The Beach House's rooms are very affordable for its location. Many other places that would charge this much would be found in less quality locations than this. ||Friendly Staff - The staff are very friendly and easy to contact via text. They are quick to respond to inquiries and are happy to assist.||Cons:||Bathroom - In my stay, there was mold all over the ceiling of the bathroom. The bathroom ceiling was quite low (I'm guessing only 6' or 6 1/2' tall), which made it quite uncomfortable to have mold inches from my head. Additionally, no extra toilet paper was left for my use - I only had the one roll, which in the end was not quite enough. ||Bed - The bed itself seemed to be warped. Somehow or other, the mattress seemed to tilt to one side. Additionally, the sheets were simply awful. They were extremely scratchy and rough. Frankly, it felt like sleeping on burlap. I have no idea where they managed to find such low quality sheets. Honestly, it seems a feat to achieve such a thing, given that I'm fairly certain that such low thread count is no longer produced. This led to such poor quality sleep for me that I had to drive home sleep-deprived - not exactly evidence of a refreshing and restful vacation. ||Wifi - They advertise themselves as having "high speed wifi". This is, to be blunt, extremely inaccurate and quite frankly it's a bit galling that they would even claim this. During my entire stay there, I could not even load a simple three-minute Youtube video without having to have multiple pauses for buffering. Even the 90s had better internet. (I've attached a screenshot of a speedtest done while in the room.)||AC - The AC seemed to be relatively ineffective. For some reason, they chose AC units which do not include dehumidifying features. In other words, your room will get cooler, but the humidity will make you feel like you are hot - even when the AC is making you feel like you are cold. Get ready for some swampy nights of sleep, being cold and damp all night in those scratchy sheets!||Parking - The parking spaces for The Beach House are pretty limited. They do have an overflow parking section not far at all from the motel, however if you don't want to risk it or lose your spot, don't go anywhere. ||Window - The windows do not have screens. This can be seen as a good thing, if you are someone who does not like screens - but I had a fly in my room for the last two days and it could not find its way back out again. Screens would have easily...
Read moreI debated on writing this review but thought I should share my family's experience. Growing up my family always used to stay here, but it was family owned during that time. We have always had exceptional service. My husband and I have not vacationed in Carolina Beach for the last 4-5 years, but decided to come back this year as we love the location and family friendly beach. We booked back at the beginning of the year and the original confirmation email stated that check in was at 3:00. We arrived a little before 3 and was told that check in now is 4:00, but we were not notified via text or email of this change. My first red flag but decided to ignore it. We decided to go eat and grab a few essentials and got a call around 4:45 that our room was just now ready. When we arrived back around 6:00 pm there was no staff on site and our room door was supposed to be unlocked, but it was locked, and we had issues getting into our room that night and found it very hard to reach management about the issue. Mind you I had two kids under 6 with me that were freaking out, because we were locked out of a room that we paid for. Next day we were offered half off the first night due to the inconvenience. I feel like that was a very cheap way of making up for lack of customer service. The other red flag is that you have to request items you need replenished during your stay, i.e: towels, wash cloths, toilet paper, paper towels. Then later that morning, we sent a message for towels. Around 3 we still had not received them, my husband went to front desk to make sure the message was received. The front desk staff looked into and said they saw the message, but we never received any towels. So, around 8 after we got back from enjoying our evening, we had to drive to the CB walmart and buy our own towels and wash cloths to use that night along with toilet paper, paper towels, and trash bags, just in case we needed them. We finally got towels the second day, after texting again. They were left out on the rocking chairs in a trash bag for us. There was also a lot of sand left in the tub for a room that was just cleaned before we arrived, making it look like they didn't even clean the tub at all. Overall, I feel like they are cutting back on housekeeping and staff to boost their profit, but the customer is getting shafted, especially for how much the nightly rate is. I'm okay with having to take out trash and things like that, but it's ridiculous you have to text to ask for basic necessities like towels and you may not get them that day. Overall, the new management has ruined this place for me that I have been coming to for over 20 years. I wish I could have gotten all my money back and stayed elsewhere. I will most definitely not be coming back and telling others not to stay here as well. I also want to add that this is the worse hotel stay I...
Read moreMy family and I recently stayed here. Upon checking in, we were informed on how to use the Yale door lock to enter the room, but not how to lock it when leaving. Every guest should be educated on this since not every guest has used a Yale lock and upon looking online, there are several ways you can set a Yale to lock. This overshadowed our trip because we had a lot of difficulty ensuring the door was locked when leaving.
We brought this to managements attention, and when asked how to lock it, they didn’t have an answer for that but said they would “reset it due to humidity issues they were experiencing.” In the end we didn’t get an answer for how to lock the door and we ended up asking for a manual key instead to lock the door. $250 if you lose it. Another thing to worry about.
The first time we used the manual key to lock the door, we came back to our room an hour later to it UNLOCKED. Not sure if this was due to the system glitching because of “humidity issues” or not, but our room that was locked when we left was no longer locked.
Again, I went to management and explained the situation. Her response verbatim was “you don’t have anything to worry about before 5pm. It’s after 5 pm that you have to worry about that. I’ll keep an eye on your room throughout the day.”
Excuse me? Our room should remain locked. Not to mention the day prior, a random man (presumably a guest) opened our door and started coming into our room when my daughter and I had just gotten out of the shower and had no clothes on or even a towel covering our bodies. So no, it’s not “safe before 5pm.”
The floors were dirty and pool was gross. Everything else aside from these issues were great, including the beds, the Roku tv, and the deck view of the ocean, but sadly we had to worry about our belongings being ransacked the entire time and management was dismissive...
