I can’t believe how incredibly easy it was to find the king-size mattress we wanted at a price we also wanted to pay at Mattress Firm. I had already visited several other major chain stores and researched some online-only mattress company options, but I had decided to try Mattress Firm for the first time because they advertise so many king mattresses at rock-bottom prices (sub-$700) and even though I knew I ideally wanted something that was at least of mid-level quality, I was curious about what these lower-priced mattresses felt like, since most other chain stores only have kings that are significantly above $1000. I figured if I could be happy with a lower-end mattress, I might as well save the money. As soon as I walked in the door, Carl greeted me kindly. I explained why I had come in, and he still went ahead and took the time to explain and show me the differences between low-, mid-, and higher-end mattresses. I was thoroughly impressed with the depth and detail of Carl’s product knowledge, as well as his ability to correctly and quickly assess which mattresses would best suit my needs. My boyfriend and I definitely liked one of these three initial mattresses best (the highest option, Beautyrest Beyond), but then we asked to see something less expensive than even the lowest model he had showed us just for comparison’s sake, and even so, he didn’t mind at all and swiftly showed us some options. I was actually surprised to discover that even the lowest-priced $699 innerspring king mattresses at Mattress Firm felt quite a bit sturdier and nicer than some of the other, much more expensive mattresses I had already tried at other stores. So, we started to wrestle with the price vs quality dilemma, and seriously considered whether we should buy the cheapest mattress instead of spending more on the nicer mattress we liked best. Without being asked, Carl then took it upon himself to search the Mattress Firm outlet inventory, and actually found a significantly discounted Beautyrest Beyond for us, so that in the end, we could still afford to have the top-of-the-line bed that we wanted without going over budget! We couldn’t believe it!
At no time did Carl make me feel like we were wasting his time by not having a higher budget. He genuinely seemed to care about helping us get something high quality and suitable that would last us a long time (my previous Simmons/Beautyrest bed that I am replacing now is 14 years old, and only has just started to feel worn out in the last 6 months or so). So I definitely wanted something that would have approximately equal longevity. Other salesmen at other stores have definitely made me feel like I should just quickly purchase a $1500-$2000 mattress with no information or explanation, and that was really bothering me. Maybe $2k isn’t a lot of money to some people, but it definitely is to me, and I wanted to ensure that I’m making the best possible decision and using my hard-earned money as wisely as possible! Carl definitely helped me achieve that goal!
Totally in passing, I happened to mention how I missed having a genuine down pillow because those felt the best for me, but I had to stop using them years ago due to allergies. No sooner had the words left my mouth when Carl went to the rack and pulled out a low-profile down alternative pillow that magically felt EXACTLY like the beloved pillow I had thrown out, and better yet, it happened to be 50% off! Even though I was already sold on that pillow and of course the mattress, Carl still took the additional time to test-fit my neck and head to similar pillows in varying heights on the very bed we were planning to buy to make sure that everything would be a perfect match. I think I was actually even more excited about the pillow than the new mattress, if that was even possible.

Read moreMy son’s mother and I walked into this store looking for a mattress, and right away the employee says “first we need to find out what type of sleeper you are and then I can show you some beds.” Me personally, the first thing I like to find out about my customer(s), is what their budget is and what they’re looking for. No point in showing someone something they can’t afford, or aren’t willing to spend x dollars on right? He showed us a bunch of different beds and there was a particular bed we showed interest in. This was the first place we had physically walked into; so excuse us for not jumping from looking at $700 mattresses online to a $1,5xx mattress in a store.
I’m not cheap, but I like to do my research first, to make sure I’m getting the best price. I walked into this place with about $1,700 cash in my pocket, but was going to put the purchase on my credit card for the cc perks & cash back.
What bothered me was that we told the employee that we were just looking around and would like to check out at least 1 or 2 more places before we make a decision. He proceeded to tell us that the bed was on sale right now for $1,5xx. We asked how long the sale was and he said “I don’t know. It could end anytime.” Seriously…? I know this is a sales tactic. You mean to tell me, we walked into this place on a whim, this bed just happens to be on sale, and you don’t know when the sale ends? Anyhow, we were still unsettled about the purchase and the employee then tells us how they price match and he would look for a lower price online. He got on his computer and came back in less than a min and said he found the same bed for $1,3xx. Now I know from all the price matching I do on my own time, you cannot price match an item that quick. At this point, this is when I really knew he was just trying to get us to buy the bed. He then said that if we want to, we could put down a deposit to hold/lock in the bed at the price. I didn’t want to, but I was okay with that because he said it was refundable, and that seemed like the only way to get out of this store w/o feeling more pressure. I offered cash, but he said it’s much easier to use a credit card. Lol! I gave him cash and left.
On the way home, we happen to see another place right down the street. We almost passed it up, but decided to stop in. When we walked in, we told the employee what our budget was. She asked us if it was okay to show us some floor models first. We said that’s fine. We weren’t interested in them, and was shown more beds. The $800 beds she was showing us, were just as thick as the $1.5k beds from Mattress Firm, with the same quality and 10 year warranty. I instantly got a good vibe from this employee, whereas with Mattress Firm, I felt like I was at a car dealer ship.
Long story short, we felt pressured to buy at Mattress Firm and not the other place. We ended up buying a Serta Liviana Luxury Queen Mattress at the other place for $1,000, with a mattress protector, 10yr warranty, free stain removal, free haul away of your old bed & free delivery. Even with the so called price match at Mattress Firm, the total was $1,5xx, no mattress protector offered, same warranty, they charge to haul away your old mattress and they charge $100 for delivery.

I’m not sure where this guy did his price matching, but later on I looked online for the same bed he wanted to sell us and found it for $972 & $959 while averaging about at $1,100 on other websites. I’d also like to add that I don’t care to put this employees name out there we dealt with, because he was very nice, was very knowledgeable, and was just doing his job to make a sale, as anyone would who has a family to support; but if you do see this review, try to figure out what your customers are willing to spend first and then ask them what they are looking for. You’ll sell much more that way.

Read moreI stopped by this Mattress Firm on the way out of town as it showed on Purple's website that they carried all of their mattresses and products and I had been doing research on them for the past few weeks. I went in just to try everything out, despite being apprehensive, as I always hate the pressure of the salesperson looming and exhaling their commission breath all over you.
To our immediate relief, there was a woman there named Azita, who immediately made us feel comfortable. She wasn't salesy, pushy, and just let us do our thing and come to her with questions, while making sure we had everything we needed. This allowed us to try the different products, ultimately finding one that we liked and then asking her for her help.
You could tell that she actually knew what she was talking about and wasn't just regurgitating the highlights that we could read ourselves on the marketing material. We ended up hanging out at the location for almost two hours because we had such a good time with her.
Not only did she offer us a better deal that we would have gotten by ordering from the manufacturer, but she offered me a deal on a foundation that she believed would alleviate my back pain.
I waited over a week to write this review, as I wanted to try everything out for a few nights before giving my feedback and I'm glad that I did.
The mattress itself provided a solid improvement to my back pain, but it wasn't completely solved... until I paired it with the features of the foundation that she recommended. The lumbar support feature, along with the new mattress have provided me with the relief that I've been looking for for the last 3 years.
I'm an online shopper, because the sales people usually make purchasing things (especially of higher value), unbearable, but Azita made the experience not only bearable, but actually enjoyable. Without her feedback and expertise, I wasn't going to get the foundation, and ultimately I'm not sure if I'd keep the mattress just on it's own, but the combination of the two have literally had me waking up with a smile on my face.
