I seldom write reviews, but Terrie and Kip's place is so exceptional that it merits commenting upon. We have stayed at Cumbres Suites twice and have been delighted both times. The two upstairs rooms we found spacious, yet cozy, and low priced compared to your chain hotels. We also looked into the other two rooms upstairs and found them the same. I haven't seen the downstairs rooms but will guess they are the same. The rooms are fully carpeted throughout (except the bathroom), and clean. Although you can hear the traffic on NM-17, you really have to strain your ears to notice it as the sounds are very muffled. The hosts are kind and accommodating. On our first stay we were reserved for 3 nights, but decided to go home after two. Terrie let us pay for just the two nights only. Rooms have small refrigerators but no microwaves although there is a microwave in the common, kitchen area where breakfast of juice, milk, coffee, sweets, cereal, and microwavable frozen sausages is available all day. In summary, I highly recommend this...
Read moreThis was a different type of motel/hotel for us. We're used to the "standard" type such as Hampton Inn, Hilton, etc. This was a family-owned lodge where the "suites" are either in a ground level building outside or inside the main building with doors opening to the dining area.
My family and I had a 3 bed suite with a full kitchen including full size fridge. We were pleasantly surprised at how well kept & tidy the suite was for a small town (technically, Chama is a "village") lodge. In addition the owners and their son were very helpful and friendly, and made us feel at home.
If you need to stay in Chama either for the Cumbres-Toltec Scenic Railroad (which is why we were there and yes, it was awesome), or just passing through, consider Cumbres Suites. I...
Read moreTeri and Kip are absolutely the best hosts of any place I’ve ever stayed! The rooms are huge and very clean, and the motel has the comfortable feel of being in your own home. Not only is it a great place to stay, but Teri and Kip went above and beyond after I called from our hunting camp to see if they had any rooms available and whether any restaurants would still be open by the time we got down off the mountain.
Teri told me she could get us pizzas or hamburgers — and she actually went and picked up a pizza and a salad for us! It was incredibly kind and something that’s rare these days.
If you’re ever near Chama, NM, I highly recommend staying here with...
