From the moment that I walked in I felt welcome at this property. the fact that I did not have a reservation did not seem to dampen the enthusiasm of the staff but rather encouraged them to sell me on the idea of staying there.
I used the Free appetizer coupon they gave me for the steakhouse next door, which I chose the fried pickles, by the way. Weary Traveler got back to the property and expected to enjoy a couple drinks at the hotel bar and watch the rest of the game I was watching at the steak house, however they had closed promptly at 10:00pm. There were two guests and the bar person all clearing out of the freshly wiped down room. Weary Traveler disappointed.
Next morning, Refreshed Traveler enjoys a free continental breakfast in what seems almost like a real restaurant. The Waiterperson got me an OJ from the kitchen and engaged in some light hearted picking on me as though I enjoyed that sort of thing. I broke a twenty dollar bill and tipped him $5 cause it seems like the right thing to do for a free breakfast that offers table Service. I went backup to the room for two hours of in-room office time and staff was careful not to disturb me, nice. Looking back I should have tipped the maid. She made my stay very comfortable and clean and sent me off with a warm greeting in the hallway to have a blessed day! That made me feel appreciated and glad I didn't leave a messy room, but I didn't know how nice she did her job until I was leaving with my baggage in hand and in a rush. I regret I didn't tip her.
Only other thing, the parking lot was really jammed up with big Service trucks of a large construction Crew and the parking lot was designed for small cars. I was sure my BMW was going to get a ding on both sides from parking....the very idea of it is disturbing. I would have liked to know if it would be possible to park in the steak house parking lot without danger of...
Read moreMy wife, son, daughter, and I were visiting the area for campus tours of Virginia Tech and Radford. The room was very modern and had everything we needed. There were comfortable beds and pillows, a refrigerator and microwave concealed in an elegant desk/tv stand furniture piece. There were multiple extra electrical outlets in every area of the room, which is perfect for modern day families or business travelers with multiple cell phones and laptop computers. The bathroom was very clean and had great water and shower pressure. I could tell that the housekeeping staff went above and beyond to make this room sparkle! There was even a fitness room and indoor pool.
The restaurant hostess was top notch, and was welcoming, friendly, and funny too! My son and I really enjoyed talking with her and hearing about the area. The front desk staff were also great and got us every item we requested to make the stay perfect. I especially wanted to thank the young woman at the night desk (Alethia?) for the great tips on things to do and see at Tech and Radford, your sage advice on the college application process in general, as well as dual enrollment options!
The area around the hotel is very nice and there are many great restaurants, shopping facilities, and a movie theater right across the street. The whole experience was fantastic and the scenery, mountain views, and fresh air made us wish we could have stayed the whole week. We will definitely come back soon to this hotel. Great job everyone! This is one of the best Holiday Inns I have...
Read moreI was excited to stay at this hotel as it would be my first time and I thought it was in a great location. The hotel's lobby was very clean and organized and had a nice bar area and breakfast area. The breakfast was ok, I have had better the service in the morning was mediocre.
My room when I first walked in was clean but I did notice that the refrigerator was not cleaned out from the previous guest. I arrived late and went right to bed but when I went to shower in the morning I noticed that the shower area was gross. The wall board/wall paper above the shower was peeling and I could see the cement behind it and of course it had mold behind it. I also saw mold on the ceiling and part of the wall paper looked like it had been stapled to the wall and the staples were rusty. I did report it to the main desk and later when I went back later that evening I could tell someone checked on it because I could see shoe prints in the shower that had been left.
I did not request a new room since I was only going to be there one more day and I was heading out for the day and did not want to go clean my things up and mess with a room change but I would of thought that I would been acknowledged some how but no one ever said another word to me about it.
I wondered why they would even book a guest in that room in the first place. Apparently they are not checking the rooms very good if they put someone in a...
