Once in a great while, adversity begets reward. On a recent road trip from WA to CA, my reservation at a national chain hotel (where I happen to have a rewards membership and frequently stay), just up and disappeared. Not a good thing to have happen on a summer weekend in the Sacramento area! After trying over a dozen local hotels, and finding nary a room in sight CA State Fair week!), I broke down and called a local roadside motel. You know the kind... popular in the 50's and 60's... typically a dozen or so rooms... run by some retired mom & pop couple... and now under the ninth or tenth owners - none of whom did anything to pull the little lodgings along through the passing decades... YUP - THAT motel! The type you remember from your second grade family vacation trip across country in that station wagon with the bench seat that faced backwards. NOW you remember!! Well this review would have been about one of those, but that's when fate stepped in and turned everything around.||I call the Ranch Motel and my call was answered by a very pleasant individual that was very welcoming, polite and reassuring in his ability to not only provide accommodations, but to do so in a manner that would provide a pleasant surprise. And when questioned as to the "state" of the accommodations, he assured me I would be given ample opportunity to inspect the room prior to renting.||Upon arriving, I met Victor Patel - yes, the same young gentlemen that was so gracious on the phone, and he was even more polite, engaging and pleasant in person (which was hard to believe considering what a great initial impression he made). Hearing of my plight, Victor was quick to point out that the Ranch Motel was a business venture that his family had undertaken, and were in the process of renovating and upgrading all of the rooms and the property. But enough about that, let's get right to what YOU want to know... my room - WAS FABULOUS!||That's right.||I was expecting to find 50 year old shag carpet, peeling forest mural wallpaper or the tenth repainting of the walls and ceilings, a bedspread that had been used to cover a floor during an engine rebuild, pillows that doubled as placemats, and the remains of a once watertight tub/shower that had long since lost that battle. BUT - what I found was a well appointed room that had been renovated with stylish hardwood flooring, ample LED lighting with switches located at both sides of the headboard and the door entry, outlets galore - and each equipped with USB charging ports, a recently remodeled bathroom with a jetted bathtub and one of the nicest (and quietest) Braun vents I've seen in quite awhile. There was also wifi, a refrigerator and a microwave. Not to mention the large flat panel TV mounted on the wall. Oh - and the bedspread and sheets were fresh, clean and appeared new. There were also two layers of pillows on the bed. Big fluffy pillows! It was obvious they were still doing little touch-ups around the room, but it was all done exceptionally well, and the progression from 50's/60's era roadside motel to modern motel accommodations was amazing. It was then that I noticed how the entire property had been transformed... nice landscaping, fresh paint, and an attention to cleanliness both in the room and around the property.||OKAY, I've ranted on a little too much, so let me just say this - I am a longtime traveler that normally stays in the upper mid-level hotel chains. But the Ranch Motel proved you should never judge a book by its cover. And while I know there are still many of those other roadside motels all across the country, it was great to find one that a loving family took the time to bring back to life! And they are doing an exceptional job in the process.||If you are ever in the Sacramento / Citrus Heights / Roseville area of California, stop in and say hello to Victor and/or his dad - Bob, take a look around, and give this place a try. I believe you will be pleasantly surprised. And - it might just give you a chance to relive that second grade family vacation with YOUR family... less the station wagon with the backwards facing rear bench seat!||OH - and please do me a favor, tell Victor that guy from...
Read moreI wanted to use the bathtub my house doesn't have one, and it was fine and dandy for that reason it was clean and actually had some pretty nice granite counter tops that were a beautiful black color with beautiful sparkles. The bathroom area was a lot more private and pretty than my own. I enjoyed it very much so. I was also hoping it was sealed off better as far as sound I was hoping to sing in the bath tub to my self, but the door to get in the room had a huge gap from the floor to the door so that also means bugs could walk right in if there were any around also what a waist in the summer for drifting cool air from the system and then I'm sure in the winter they are spending more money than they have to if they would fix that little thing. People would have to run the machine constantly to make up for the draft and escaping heat under the door. Also I wanted to go and be alone but I don't want everyone to know I'm there alone and you could probably see my feet and monitor a person like that. So as far sound privacy not very and I could hear people outsides conversations. I didn't hear anyone through the walls but I'm pretty sure some lady or man I guess could hear me through the bathroom vent or something cause they made some sounds and then I heard music playing soon after. They do call me earbleed.so I understand. Overall I was safe and got to take a bath. Perfection. Close to home get away for a day. Air worked great too had a TV fridge and microwave. Which worked perfectly as well and came in handy for all my snacks. Dollar store was next door I needed a pad for trying to write songs if any came to mind so that was helpful and a few places to eat and liquor store right across from it too. So it was sufficient. Read moreI came here because of the location convenience to our son's place and because of the great reviews about cleanliness and conscientious managers who keep the place free of trouble. Unfortunately our room was very small and in poor repair, the fridge was not quite cold enough even when turned as cold as it would go, the shower curtain had no liner so sopping wet material stuck to you in the shower, the walls were so thin that the neighbor blaring his television from 11pm to 3am kept me awake all night, and the poor bed stand, which was too small for the undersized queen, kept trying to drop me off the edge. They may have other rooms that were better appointed or more updated, but we were actually grateful for the loud, thumping, whining AC unit, as it helped to drown out a lot of neighbor noises, fights, conversations and TV shows. The room was also the price of most of the larger hotels in the area but didn't provide the little soaps, coffees, lotions, etc. that often come with a $118-125 a night room, and the owners make excuses about laws regarding waste, but don't bother to spend the money on environmentally conscientious products and compostable options. They said the fridge was "so new" the plastic hadn't been pulled off of it yet, but the fridge was old enough that the neglected plastic was peeling off the front. Too much damage, too many excuses, and I strongly dislike owners who argue with reviews that are accurate and just, given the fact that it was my personal experience and there is nothing they should be adding or arguing with. We would not make the mistake of...
