Upon checking in the staff was very nice and friendly, everything else about this hotel was subpar. When I checked in, I inquired about certain kinds of rooms, or upgrades, which weren’t available due to the hotel being at capacity. The hotel can’t help being booked up, I understand this. However, not enough effort was made to find any kind of workable alternative. My IHG membership didn’t really count for anything here. One of the things I asked about was a room with any kind of decent view, what I got instead was a room facing a building, and a sketchy dead end street, overlooking the parking lot, where a staff member was m-st-rb-ting (edited because it was considered more indecent that I wrote it than that it happened) in the booth, literally. When I reported it, I no longer saw that staff member for the rest of my stay, but also no, “sorry that was your experience, may we offer you....” Also, there was a day when housekeeping did not clean my room at all, when I made no indication that I didn’t want my room cleaned. In this incident, my IHG membership came in handy, but I still had to request the points as a consolation rather than any good solution being offered. Also, times when the room was cleaned, I still noticed strange things like a stain on the carpet, or strange spots on the linens, or a partial job done in the restroom. The rooms are also semi-outdated in the decor. How outdated are they? They have CD players for alarm clocks in the rooms. I should’ve brought my 1995, 500-count CD carrying case, had I known. What’s an iPhone? Also, my thermostat controlled what appeared to be a space-heater on the wall, which left me feeling cold and sleepless the first night, even when set to 80 degrees, around it’s max heat temperature, until it finally caught up a day later, probably because of the change in the weather. Don’t order the room service, it’s overpriced and lacking in taste. There was much more but then I’d just be nitpicking. Had I known pictures would be requested, I would have taken plenty, but I only have a couple that corroborate my story (one removed because it was too explicit for this review). Nonetheless, the hotel was booked to capacity, and they even seemed to have a couple of events there, also my employer chose it, so they must be doing something right. On their door they have posted an 8.1 rating and award from some travel site, is that out of 100? Perhaps they’re the cheapest hotel option in the area, or perhaps they otherwise provide a good experience and I just drew the short end of the stick. You decide.

Where do I start with this one. First of all...the staff was super friendly. This review has nothing to do with any of the ladies working the front desk as they were all super friendly and accommodating. Saying that...this may have been the worse Holiday Inn I have ever stayed in. It needs a ton of renovating and is old and falling apart. First off, the parking lot for the hotel under the hotel is literally falling apart. Oozing water and who knows what else from the ceiling. Mold covers most of it. It drips on your car where you park. It's disguising and I can not believe anyone could look at that and think that it would be ok for guests to pull into your property seeing that before they get out. (Pictures attached) There are two elevators. One of them is broken and out of order. The "working" one bounces up and down and is laboring at each floors stop. Everyone in the elevator with us as we traveled it all were uneasy and couldn't really believe it. The rooms are older. Bathroom area chipping and falling part. Bathroom tub drain wouldn't stay down on it's own to drain. You had to hold it manually to empty the tub as you showered. The hotel was the wreck by the following morning. While heading down to checkout there was food and broken glass literally the hallway all over the 6th floor where were stayed. Including clothing just hanging in the elevator. (pictures attached) In the end, our stay was on IHG points and we left in the morning with no need for any charges and while driving away my credit card was charged a random $34.20 charge from the hotel? No clue why. We call the front desk. The lady isn't sure why we were charged. She said I will have to put you on hold. We were on hold for over 30 minutes...no one ever came back on the line to speak to us, eventually the phone call just went dead. So we contacted IHG to relay what had happened about the phantom charge and they will have the local GM call me. I'm waiting on that call still.

Let me start by saying the staff is nice, accommodating, and friendly. But like most other reviews have said, this hotel is terrible. My first room (we’ll get to this story soon) was for sure not totally cleaned. Tv stand was collecting dust. There also was no outlet behind it to plug the TV/fridge in so I had to pick up and move the fridge in order for the power strip to be plugged in the outlet. The view from this room was desolate - an empty, decrepit pool. This was night one. All throughout the second day/night I noticed my air conditioner despite being set to its lowest was slowly dying. I tried to lie to myself and say that the temp was going up because it was during the day and the sun was beating down on the hotel. This was not correct. After going out and returning to the hotel to sleep I discovered the AC was flat out broke and spitting out hot air. Called the front desk and they were understanding and moved me to a diff room. Unfortunately this room’s air conditioning was also broken. Called the desk again and they determined it was a hotel-wide issue as the lobby was boiling hot. It was at this time I decided to just leave - the front desk was gracious enough to refund me the second night. I found a second hotel close by and was able to check in quickly and efficiently. The person at that front desk heard my tale and laughed - they knew all about how terrible the Holiday Inn was + gave me some free drinks because of what I had been through. All in all, this hotel is bad. It’s seemingly under perpetual construction and amenities simply are not working! Staff is very nice though and reasonable. If I had to argue my way into getting refunded I would have been way more mad than I was. This is disappointing because the location is great so this place could easily be way better than it is but ownership/management doesn’t seem to care. Don’t stay here!!!

Short version: Don’t ever book here waste of time, money, and risk of health.

Detailed version: Holiday Inn Rochester Downtown at 70 State St, Rochester, NY 14614 was built in the year of 1969 and looks like it hasn’t been remodeled since then. It seriously needs to be re-done the carpets are absolutely filthy looking, elevator buttons/space is cruelly unkept, our bathroom had visible streaks and was very unclean. My Mom and I booked here, since it’s the next closest location to the hospital. We originally planned to stay at the Staybridge hotel, however, they were fully packed and it seemed we had no chance to get a room with them anytime soon (given it was President Day weekend). Our stay was booked for Feb. 22-23. Keep in mind I have a surgery for Feb. 23 and the uncleanliness made me on edge during our entire stay. According to loopnet.com, an online marketplace for commercial property, it states that this property is Building Class “B”, but as far as I’m concerned it’s a “F” for failure. It looks inviting from the front entrance, but let’s be real looks can be deceiving.

Although, there’s plentiful of “great” experiences I have yet to list. Aside from the previous dirty things I described in our room I spoke with the Front Desk staff, Antonio, explaining that our room was very unclean and we’d like to be get another room in replace of it. Without any hesitation he switched us from Room 560 to 518. My Mom and I drew a sigh of relieve…only to regret it before we knew it. Our 2nd room was even more dirty than the last. Unbelievable trust me I know, but again I do have photos. The beds were probably the most bearable, that is until I noticed a water bottle under my Mom’s bed. You’d never guess what’s in the water bottle, because I myself have no clue what it is. I do know it looks very disturbing perhaps it’s blood who knows, but it shouldn’t have been there from the beginning as far as I’m concerned. I brought in some Lipton tea bottles from home and decided I’d place them in the mini fridge. At this point, no surprise another disgusting display was presented before me. Someone’s toe nails resting below the bottom of the fridge door on the carpet. Who knows how long the water bottle and toe clippings have been there. I really wish I was joking, but I’m sadly not.

I tried to relax the best I could and get ready for bed only to wonder if I’m the only one who has experienced such an uncomfortable and revolting time here. I searched up this hotel’s review on multiple sites and found a handful of results. No surprise! Tons and tons of reviews mostly negative about how bad other customers experiences were. Keep in mind these reviews do scale widely back from 8 years to present time(Feb 23, 2022).

My overall visit kept my Mom and I very uneasy and it was just so appalling. I must say one of the most comical things during this stay was how RELATABLE other reviews from customers that mistakenly stayed here matched our own experiences. In addition, after viewing tons of reviews both good and bad it’s obvious all the previous Front Office Managers or Director of Sales have a common habit of copying and pasting the same mantra of condolences when having a customer that has experienced a bad stay. It gets very old and stale without a doubt. It shows they have no remorse and are not willing to change anytime soon. They have been called out countless of times in the past for their many flaws and unhealthy environment. It’s very clear that a majority of their “good” rated stays with them were staged or scripted. Hardly any of the positive reviews explain how or why their stays were as “good” as they were claimed to be. The only pro I could provide is that the one and ONLY staff we met during our stay was very kind/accommodating which to reiterate was Antonio.

If you are a customer and made it to the end of this I hope I was able to help you out. Also feel free to contact me here or at my Yelp for additional...

Very Disappointed, Checked Out a Day Early Upon arrival all seemed well, I did notice that the Hotel was under construction being renovated which is understandable, no Diamond Elite Room upgrades available due to limited rooms while under construction which again is understandable, I inquired about the lounge hours of operation which is one reason I selected this hotel so I did not have to drive for dinner or drinks after work, Upon my return to the hotel from a long day working I walked to the Lounge only to find it dark and closed, When I asked the associate behind registration, I was told the lounge was closed tonight, no explanation keep in mind when I checked in I was told the hours of operation, Only one of two elevators were operationally most likely due to the construction however I was put on the 6th floor which caused delays getting up/down, The elevator floor was often littered with debris and not maintained for the guest, When I approached my room, I noticed a printed paper taped to the wall to indicate my room # which I attributed to just being updated, the door lock does not operate as designed does not release fully and makes it difficult to enter the room. I first noticed the room had a strange layout, the King Bed was facing large windows overlooking a pool area like a courtyard with visibility to all other rooms as well as mine from theirs, especially at night when other guest room lights were on as mine was too. The TV was in the left corner of the room which was very awkward when laying in the bed attempting to watch the TV, note the additional safety issue a heavy iron on top of a microwave with the door open/closing could cause injury to guest. As I set up my laptop I noticed a red nail polish type substance on the desk which had a dirty appearance overall, The yellow/gold chair was filthy, obvious wear marks and stains on the side of the chair and a round circular stain right in the middle of the seat, I did not or would not sit in that given the chairs appearance, Further observations showed unfinished corners, trim work ect. while using the toilet I notice there was not toilet paper holder thankfully there was toilet paper on the shelf, How do you miss installing a toilet paper holder while doing a construction punch list, how does the cleaning service associate not realize he/she did not put toilet paper on a holder, In closing as a Diamond Elite Member I was highly disappointed as I’m sure most of your other guest may be as well, I took several photos see attached and I checked out a day early I would no want to stay there for free let alone spend my hard-earned money for those substandard...

Horrible experience. I would not recommend. I travelled many places of the world and this is one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed due to the following reasons. Detail of my stay: I was a delegate to attend FiO/LS 2022 and was there for 5 nights from 16 to 21st Oct. 2022. Costliest room was being provided with two king size beds though I was just being alone and they have empty rooms. The woman at the reception while checking in is unnecessarily rude, not replying any of your questions. There exist no room service at all. Only the room service would knock your room on the day of checking out to make sure you check out before time. The hotel is running by a bunch of beggars. They took 160 euros per night without breakfast and provided no handwash. A smallest possible shampoo that can be used only once. Since the room service does not come daily without repeated requests, the next day I have no shampoo and soap. I asked the reception at night after returning from conference to take bath and they said they have none. I mean seriously? No supermarket was open by that time. No handwash, no soap, no shampoo! As I requested the next day room service came on 18th. They lost my medicine kept on the bed while cleaning it. Now it was bought in Germany and I could not find it in nearby supermarkets. I had to suffer due to allergy problems. Such worst service. Therefore, I could not focus on the events, One of the lifts out of only two are out of service for months. Nobody cares, another is faulty. You feel earthquake once you are in, getting out being scared. Can happen accident anyday. Air-conditioning/heater does not work. It's so cold inside I had throat pain and I have oral talk. It was difficult. Since I was sick without medicine, I asked one hour extra before I can check out on 21. The reception staff was rude and so inhuman. They said no way u must pay for the next day. I have never faced such inhuman attitude in any hotels before. In fact I should file a compensation against them for losing my valuable medicine and for my suffering. They would not take any responsibility but only be rude. There is a difference between being professional and being inhuman. The staff should understand this. The true capitalism does not tell you to be inhuman while being profitable. In summary: the hotel should be closed if they cannot run it properly or all the inhuman staffs should be replaced. The hotel is running by a bunch of beggars. I would ask conference organizers to recommend avoiding the hotel to the delegates next year. I claim 50% of my money as a compensation of my mental and physical...
