We checked into The Shepherd on a Thursday afternoon. ||Positives|Check in was smooth and easy. Staff was nice and valet was fine. The hotel room itself is nice and decorated well. A/C works very well. Great location if you want to be in downtown Clemson. ||Negative|We specifically asked for a quiet room and were told that all the rooms are similar and certain rooms were not quieter than others. We proceeded to have one of the worst nights of sleep ever. So, either all the rooms are loud, or he put us in the worst room in the hotel. I know the hotel can't control a lot of this, but I think it's worth noting if you want to actually sleep over your visit. ||We understand you are downtown in a college town, but if you want to sleep peacefully; I would not recommend staying here (at least on the side we stayed). If it was quiet, I would have given it a 5. ||1) They put us on the second-floor facings towards Tiger Town Tavern. |2) This room was right under the Thomas Bar (3rd floor). Anytime someone moved a chair you could hear the scraping noise on your ceiling, the bar closed at 11 pm but everyone was there much longer. So, make sure you are not under the bar. The bar was very busy, so I don't know how often they have a large crowd.|3) They have a staircase in the middle of the hotel so you can hear everything from the bar above and restaurant below in the room. |4) Bars playing music with the bass going until ~ 2 am. Earplugs and sound machines don't drown out the noise. |5) Garbage trucks and outside cleaning crew around 5 am. |6) No napping either as the employees meet in the Thomas Bar during the day and the scrapping sound of the chairs will...
Read moreAs an alumni (class of 2000) it was a thrill to stay in a hotel that looks like it's straight out of Charleston, but smack in the middle of College Ave! Everything was thought out in this hotel. The room itself was beautifully designed (spacing, storage, deep sink & vanity, comfortable bed) and decorated/stocked (rolling art screen over tv, seating, bar area, books to read, Nest brand toiletries). The bar on the 3rd floor with the rooftop terrace is beautiful. You receive a personal text after check-in to see if you need anything and they ask when you need your car out of valet. It was 27 degrees when I left and they had it all warmed up for me, complete with seat warmers. Delish Sisters downstairs is a huge gem. Atmosphere, food, drinks and service are all top notch. Their employment of LIFE students and other young adults with special needs is truly remarkable and something the entire country should model. It heightened the experience tenfold. And I was lucky enough to get a picture with Tanner so I was in heaven.
One thing to remember is that you are in the middle of College Ave and directly across and next to lively bars. They will be loud late into the night (I was there on a Sat), so if you like more quiet request a room with a window on Sloan St or just stay at the Abernathy! We're a guest in the BEST college town in America and we mold to them, not the other way around! I've told everyone about my experience at the Shepherd and I can't wait...
Read moreWe stopped into the Shepherd Hotel to the bar on the second floor called "The Thomas Bar". We have stayed here before and the hotel is really comfortable and has great service in all areas (front desk, valet, food service staff, etc.).
Bartender was excellent. Very friendly and accomodating. Allowed us to try the various wines before we finalized our purchase. Fantastic service.
This bar has three sections to sit in. The bar, some tables inside and the outside seating area. Today we sat in the inside, but have sat outside on several occasions. Seating is comfortable and the area is relatively quiet.
The hotel location is excellent. Right in downtown Clemson near all the bars and shops.
On the main level is check in, a seating area and the restaurant. The food in the restaurant is called Delish Sisters and the food is excellent. Service even better.
One thing I love about this hotel is that they employ individuals with disabilities. The staff really go out of their way to teach and work close with these individuals and it is awesome. I believe, and could be wrong on this, that some if not many of the individuals are in the ClemsonLIFE program. Outstanding.
While today we only dropped in for a drink, I highly recommend this place. Stop on by, stay awhile or just come in and say hello. It is...
