MainStay Suites Choice Hotel, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Has anyone tried entering the address to this hotel into a maps app? It takes you blocks and blocks away into the middle of a neighborhood. We arrived after dark and found ourselves in a cul-de-sac surrounded by nice homes and sidewalks. No hotel. So we call the hotel and are told that 'that happens all the time, and they don't know why'. How long has this hotel been here? If there have been multiple complaints, why hasn't the address issue been dealt with? My wife is handicapped and I have a broken foot. We both use walkers and wheelchairs. We asked for a handicap room when we booked our room. When we arrived at the hotel we found a handicap parking space and parked there. I used my walker to get to the nearest entrance, only to find that it is a rear entrance that requires a key card. While talking to the front desk, I was told I need to come to the other end of the building to register and get a key card. It took me three conversations over the intercom to finally have the gentleman open the door for me so that I could get to the front desk without having to make my way around cars and through a parking lot. As I spoke with the check-in desk agent, I was informed there would be an inspection by the fire department the next morning between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. We just made a long trip and we're hoping to sleep in. I was told my room number was 108. Amazingly, that is exactly where I found a handicap parking place earlier. So I go back to the car, through the building, to fetch my wife, only to find out there is no handicap ramp, only a full size curb. So we have to lift our equipment over the curb to get onto the sidewalk in front of our door. I try to open the door, but the pressure is so hard that I have difficulty getting it open far enough to reach inside for a light switch. I am no weakling. I was a firefighter for 24 years. To my surprise, the light switch is 6 ft inside the room behind the door that I'm having difficulty opening. I then have to hold the door open for my wife to enter because she cannot hold the pressure of the door and operate her walker at the same time. The door makes it extremely difficult to even bring in our luggage. It was a 4 hour trip to get here so we both needed to use the restroom rather quickly. Once inside the lovely bathroom, which has a walk-in / roll in shower, we discovered the handrail by the toilet is loose! We dare not try to use it for fear of falling. To backtrack a little bit, our first thought upon seeing our room door, was the fact that it faced the same parking lot, like a motel. We were worried about security as the room was at the rear of the hotel. It's a clever idea to have your parking space right at your door, but you might want to mention that in the room description for...
Read moreI called a week before the trip and asked if they had an airport shuttle and the lady said yes they did and it ran until 7pm. I asked her how to alert them to the fact that my wife and I were at the airport and needed a shuttle. I asked if I was suppose to call when I got to the airport and she said yes just give them a call. When we got the the airport I called and a man answered and I told him we needed a shuttle. He told me told me that they did not offer that service. I told home according the the last person she told me that the motel did offer that service. He told me he did not believe me. I took that as him calling me a lier and I don’t appreciate that. He them tried to tell me I talked with a 3rd party. What? How could I do that by called the hotel direct number. It cost us $60 for a taxi. Since I was sitting there for 4 hours and read the fine print at the bottom of the page that confirmed that the motel does actually have an airport shuttle surface with notice. I feel since I called and asked how the shuttle service work and told them which and I was arriving and what time I was arriving I feel I was adhering to Mainstays shuttle service requirements but instead of getting a shuttle I was basically called a lier by telling me he did not beleive me. When I checked out the lady ask if everything was all right. I told her the bed and pillows were very comfortable and I will leave it at that. She wanted to know what was wrong and I told her everything I wrote above. She told me she was sorry but they do have a shuttle service. But need a heads up which I did. Everyone involved blamed it on some new employees that they gave me bad information. But I am out $60 because they train their employees poorly. Next on the list is those stupid sliding barnyard doors for the bathroom. They do not give you any privacy while in the bathroom. They leave a gap when fully close that whomever is on the outside can see into the bathroom while you are in there. The barn doors are...
Read moreThis hotel is so new, it still has the "new hotel" smell! My third floor room was very clean, comfortable and quiet. The view of the parking lot and strip mall was nothing special, but the room was a versatile retreat; it could be a pleasure-trip getaway, a home base for recreation, or a business office. The desk pulled out with castors so that it could be moved anywhere in the room. The comfortable bed had an array of pillows. A blackout shade blocked even bright daylight. The well-lit bathroom had the essential ceiling fan. ||I believe that this is two properties in one, with more affordable "Comfort Suites" rooms, and fancier "Mainstay Suites" rooms. Thus my Mainstay room was equipped with a kitchenette with large refrigerator, cooktop, and microwave.||Because the hotel is so new, they're still training front desk people, and they all did their best to please me. The young man Seth was especially helpful, allowing me to stow my bag with him while I ran some errands. ||The full breakfast is very good--everyone should find things that will make them happy. Waffle-making station, scrambled eggs, sausage, hot and cold cereals, yogurt, and many other offerings were available. ||The fitness center is small and basic, but with several choices of cardio machines and some free weights.||The pool was not yet finished at the time of my visit.||The comfortable lobby was a great retreat center in itself, with comfortable seating and a fireplace.||I would stay here again...
