I brought my family back to Colorado to visit our relatives, and chose this motel out of nostalgia; I'd celebrated my third birthday here in 1980. The price shocked me a little but felt the amenities justified somewhat. That justification soon began to dwindle though, when the power went out in our room (the first time!)after the first ten minutes. When I reported the issue, the response I received was less than professional despite the fact that it was resolved immediately...or so I thought. In the four days we were here, the power had failed three times because the circuitry is bad in these old buildings. What's more, the heated pool, which does look well maintained, was only open two of those days for no apparent reason. Additionally, the high speed Wi-Fi advertised as an amenity was difficult to take advantage of, because the connection failed several times throughout the day all of those four days. Another amenity advertised; the laundry facilities, were closed all of the four days I was at the lodge. The most troubling portion of this experience, though, was the treatment I received from housekeeping. After housekeeping had come on the second day, I was suddenly missing a few small random items like foods, my daughter's coin purse. This was disheartening, but felt the small items weren't worth raising a fuss over so I left it alone and simply refused service the third day. On the fourth day, when I went in to inquire about the pool availability, the manager ignored my question and complained that my room had, as she put it, "too much traffic", essentially accusing me of inappropriate activities; then demanded that I allow housekeeping in to clean. As a result, I was left out of the planned adventure to climb Pikes Peak so that I could monitor the housekeeping staff and protect my items. Needless to say, I wouldn't suggest this place to...
Read moreStayed here for my sons graduation from the Air Force Academy. There were 7 of us, so we booked the executive suite, which is a 2 bedroom apartment with a kitchen and living room. We had a great rate, especially compared to the price gouging most hotels in the Springs do during graduation week. I was a little concerned, because this is a family owned business, that it might be a little run-down or sketchy. We were all so pleasantly surprised! The amenities were just perfect for our family. The suite was clean and beautiful....you could tell the building itself was older, with old-fashioned windows (charming imho), but with updates, like dressers with granite tops. The bathrooms were clean and nicely sized. The pool was clean and maintained well. There was an outdoor grill and eating area the were took advantage of for one of our dinners. And we had our own balcony patio that we used often...for coffee in the morning or wine in evening. We were also so close to many fun things...Garden of the Gods is minutes away, and in the other direction are tons of little artisan shops that were so fabulous! Great restaurants are nearby also..Amanda's Fonda(mexican food) is right next door, and Pizza Rustica is a short drive. Also a tapas place that we didn't get to try, but heard great things about. Starbucks is a short walk or drive also (even though continental breakfast is included with hotel.) All in all, I highly recommend the suite here! The owners were lovely people also. Such a great change of pace from the...
Read moreIt is an older motel, but the price was affordable and the location was great, as it was right next to places we wanted to visit, like Manitou Springs, Pikes Peak cog rail, and Garden of the Gods. The rooms are a decent size, typical motel amenities and the skylight made the room seem larger. The front desk wasn't overly friendly and almost seemed bothered when checking in. Our cell service was terrible, but they offered free wifi, which would be helpful when pulling up directions or looking for things to do. The front desk gave me the password, but the reception was just as bad as our cell. We had to drive down the street to get a decent connection. When I asked the front desk staff if the wifi was down, she rudely cut me off and said that I was using the wrong network. I assumed it was Rainbow Lodge, but she told me it was Rainbow Home. It would have been nice if I was told that when I checked in. The access point she gave me was a little better, but super spotty. I'm not sure if its due to a cheap setup or the fact that the motel has super thick stone walls. I know this is a long review about the motels internet, but the days of paper maps and brochures are gone and it's frustrating to have to drive down the street to figure out what I'm going to do and how I'm going to get there. I try to support local businesses, but after this, I'm going to pay more and stick to staying at...
