If you're exploring Garden of the Gods or Pikes Peak and craving Indian food, this restaurant is a must-visit. We chose this place based on its glowing Google reviews, and it largely lived up to the expectations.
Located conveniently close to these popular attractions, it’s one of the few Indian restaurants in the area, and it gets quite busy, especially in the evenings. The diverse crowd was a pleasant surprise; it’s rare to see such a mix of locals and Indian patrons at an Indian restaurant unless the food is truly exceptional. This balance spoke volumes about the variety and quality of the food offered here.
We started with the papdi chaat, which was fresh, flavorful, and just the right amount of tangy and spicy. For our main course, we ordered roti, kulcha, and curry dishes. The mushroom matar masala (listed as dingri on the menu) was particularly impressive. The spice levels were tailored exactly to our preferences; they can make the food as mild or as fiery as you like, and we were pleasantly surprised by the authenticity of the spiciness.
However, the restaurant’s popularity seems to be a double-edged sword. Despite having many waiters, the service was a bit slow on certain tables, including ours. The place was clearly struggling to keep up with the high demand, and we had to wait a significant amount of time for our food. It’s clear that while the food is top-notch, the restaurant could do a better job at handling crowds to improve the overall dining experience.
As someone from California, where Indian food options are abundant, I found this place to be a rare gem in Colorado. The food was excellent, but be prepared for a bit of a wait, especially during peak hours. I’ve shared some photos of the dishes we ordered and highly recommend this spot for anyone in the area looking for authentic Indian cuisine, despite the...
Read moreMausam Indian Flavors is a fairly new Indian restaurant in southern Colorado Springs off of Colorado Ave. They’ve only been open for a few months. It shares the parking lot with Safeway grocery store. The area is a little sketchy due to the high homeless population. The parking lot is decently lit at night. This was my first time dining here at Mausam…. I’d come back.
We came for an early dinner around 5:30pm. It wasn’t too crowded ; they have plenty of seating available. There was a steady stream of customers who came in between 5:30 and 8:30pm.
We were greeted and seated right away. The interior is very modern and classy. It is very clean and bright. They did a great job with the decor and gold and deep blue color scheme. It looks very posh inside. They even have nice water decanters for the table.
Vinit, our server, was very patient and offered his suggestions on what to order. I ordered a hot cup of chia for $5; unfortunately they don’t offer a refill. It comes unsweetened, so you’ll need to add sugar to it.
We tried the chef special of Chicken Jafrani with garlic naan bread. And a minced lamb dish and another chicken dish made with a nice cashew cream sauce. All dishes came with a side of plain basmati rice, which was a little on the dry side, and we got the medium spice level. The portion sizes were ok, however they all lacked a decent quantity of the protein. The average dinner price was around $18-$25 a plate. They do offer a good variety of vegetarian dishes.
We tried the saffron pistachio ice cream, which was delicious.
Overall, this Indian food experience was good. Being a new restaurant, Mausam needs to work out a few kinks, like refilling the water decanter and more frequently checking in on their customers after the food has been served. Our server didn’t come back to our table until after we...
Read moreMy experience at Mausam Indian Restaurant was absolutely delightful from start to finish. As soon as my friends and I entered, we were warmly greeted by Navjoth, our server for the evening. His attentive and friendly demeanor set a positive tone for the rest of our dining experience.
Let's talk about the food—it was exceptional. We ordered the chicken saag, chicken zafrani, and bhuna lamb. Each dish was bursting with authentic flavors and cooked to perfection. The chicken saag was rich and creamy, with just the right balance of spices and tender chicken pieces. The chicken zafrani had a distinct saffron-infused taste that was both exotic and comforting. The bhuna lamb was a standout dish; the lamb was succulent and the thick, spicy gravy was utterly delicious.
Now onto the service. Navjoth truly made our evening memorable. He was knowledgeable about the menu, offering great recommendations based on our preferences, and ensured we had everything we needed throughout the meal. Despite the restaurant being busy, the service was prompt and attentive, adding to the overall positive experience.
The ambience at Mausam was inviting and chic. The decor was tastefully done with elegant touches, creating a cozy and relaxed atmosphere. Soft lighting and Indian-themed artwork adorned the walls, adding to the restaurant's charm. It was a perfect setting for a cozy dinner with friends or a romantic evening out.
Overall, Mausam Indian Restaurant exceeded our expectations in every way. The combination of exceptional food, excellent service from Navjoth, and the inviting ambience made it a memorable dining experience. I would highly recommend Mausam to anyone looking for authentic Indian cuisine served with warmth and style. I can't wait to return to try more dishes from their...
