After driving 14 hours straight we arrived at the hotel lobby entrance at 11:15 p.m. to find it closed. It closed at 11pm, but we came from another timezone and were delayed in traffic enroute. We did not get messages until we arrived with stronger cell service restored and found that we missed a call from the hotel sometime around 9pm stating they were closing at 11p and needed us to call. We had paid reservations, why would they not make arrangements for us to check in even if late? We attempted to call the phone numbers provided to try to get access to our room, but no one answered. We left a message. We had to contact the Quality Inn customer service line and waited more than 45 minutes, and spoke to 2 different associates before someone came to the office to check us in and let us into a room. Once in our room, we noticed that the smoke detector was smashed and the remains of it were hanging from the ceiling from the wiring. (Took photos) The room air conditioning unit wouldnt work. It gave an error code. Called the GM immediately (he provided his cell number on check-in) and he arrived to reset the A/C unit at which point I showed him the damaged/missing smoke detector. He completed the a/c repairs, commented that the previous occupant likely broke it and he would make note of it. He left us around 1:15 am. The breakfast room is not as pictured on the website, it is in a re-purposed closed restaurant sun room. They appeared to be short staffed and the hot breakfast choices were limited compared to other Quality Inn offerings, including the Ouray location, where they offer meat with breakfast, bacon or sausage. At Manitou Springs, the eggs are overcooked and rubbery, they kept adding new over cooked eggs in on top of old crusty and stuck to the bottom egg trays, rather than swapping trays with fresh eggs. At 0730, there was no coffee in the dispenser, two pieces of bread for toast, 4 questionable oranges as the only fruit offering, they had run out of orange juice, as the only offering. Long story short, they seem to be pinching pennies and cutting corners wherever they can to keep costs down, which is concerning given the price of a stay. The GM was seemingly doing the job of several people and was helpful, but overwhelmed, hence the condition of the breakfast. The smoke detector was not replaced for the 3 nights we stayed and we were not moved to another room, which seems like a legal/fire safety issue in a motel. The pool was not is service, apparently under renovation with construction work happening through the midnight hours. They parked a dumpster at the west stairwell where the pool renovation and landscaping debris were being dumped throughout the day. The parking lot front entrance and landscaping was also being worked throughout the day. No indication on the website of any construction or lack of a pool. The parking lot was not well lit and multiple parking lot lights were inoperative in the back two rows and west and north...
Read more(Regarding owner's response: That the reservations weren't under my name doesn't change the fact I stayed there.) I concede, the ONLY (sadly, huge) flaw of the place is how filthy it was. Who knows; maybe we just happened to stay there on days your cleaning crew all had the flu? The furnishings are beautiful and a totally unexpected, luxurious touch in such a reasonably priced establishment. It really COULD (and USED TO BE) a LOVELY place, IF it were clean. In addition, the location is fantastically convenient; you can't stay closer to the Garden of the Gods without illegally camping IN the park and it's within a reasonable walking distance from a whole bunch of fun shopping and restaurant choices, so you have that going for you, no matter what! Finally, for a place located immediately adjacent to a restaurant which offers live entertainment (again, convenient location) it is remarkably quiet; the occasional late-at-night noises from the neighboring room certainly aren't the fault of the motel!
Sadly, this place, now an EconoLodge, has tanked. We booked here again, after an amazing stay pre-Covid. What a disappointment. Should've suspected something right away, when there was a housekeeping bag of dirty towels on a chair outside the room. Hindsight. Upon entering, we were again delighted with the decor! Spacious room, lovely antique pieces and new vinyl flooring! Closer inspection revealed the place was filthy! MANY hairs still on the moldy shower floor, used Q-tips on the floor by the sink, hairs even still in the bed so clearly the linens hadn't been changed. Made the mistake of going barefoot around the room for about 15 minutes; soles looked like I'd been parading the midway at a county fair for a week; there was even, well, something (gum? food?) stuck to the floor right beside the bed. What's the point of vinyl flooring if your never going to mop it?? Completely disgusting. Will NOT make a 3rd trip there. It's a real shame. (Read on for what a nice place it used to be!) This Rodeway is probably the nicest motel I've ever stayed in - at least certainly here in the U.S! Absolutely GORGEOUS room, comfy bed, awesome value! Room had a king size bed, whirlpool tub in the room, antique accessories in the room, fireplace and a genial, helpful proprietor! There would only be 2 possible improvements; the in-room mini-fridge had been replaced but the old, broken one was, surprisingly, still in the room. (But that is only a decor touch!) And it needs more towel bars in the bathroom. Neither of those are enough to detract from an otherwise A+++ experience! A fantastic place I hope to...
Read moreImportant Basics: The room was sparkling clean, comfortable bed, refrigerator with a separate freezer, wifi worked okay.
Details: To get a lesser expensive room rate, I had made two separate reservations online for two different kinds of rooms for our three night stay. The morning of our arrival, I called ahead to ask if they could put us in one room for all the nights, preferably on the first floor, and not have to change rooms, and do it for about the same price. I figured that could happen if they'd had a had cancellation. They called me back in less than an hour and said they could do it in a suite (I didn't book a suite originally) and they offered a price that was almost the same. I accepted their generous offer. Upon arrival, I thanked the manager who made the special arrangment. She was very friendly in person.
When we arrived at our room (111), we were surprised at it's luxury. We we expecting a typical suite with beds and and a dividing wall by the couch, and bathroom. Instead, the room was exceptionally large with comfortable furniture, fireplace, and a bathroom with a large tub with jets.
The room also has an overhead light. And there are lights of various brightness and functions around the room. Finally, a hotel that has sufficient lighting!
The fireplace is see-through to the bathroom. We hung a towel over the fireplace for privacy. A couple may not mind, but I was with my daughter and we prefer privacy.
There is a large closet with a door and a luggage rack.
The breakfast was a typical hotel simple breakfast. They have a pancake machine instead of the usual waffle machine. The attendant is very friendly and helpful. What caught my eye is that as soon as someone left, she immediately wiped the table so it's clean for the next guest.
The room has a large refrigerator (large for and hotel) that has and separate freezer. Also a microwave is in the room. Amenities included that we didn't use: Coffee maker, large TV with a remote, hair dryer, outdoor pool.
The coin laundry room is on the second floor of one of the two buildings. They have a small load washer washer for 75 cents and and large load washer for $1.50. Both dryers are 75 cents.
If we come out this way again, we will stay here. All the staff was very friendly and the rooms very clean. Cleanliness is the most important factor to me in and hotel. I haven't seen...
