Let me set the scene: after a long day of driving through the fragrant perfumes of Nebraskan farms and into the mountains of the great state of Colorado (a state with a prestigious #2 ranking), our hearts were full of dreams about saunas, indoor pools, continental breakfasts, working lights, unbroken windows, and clean sheets. All we wanted to do was check for the aforementioned bedbugs noted by the other esteemed reviewers and collapse into an affordable sleep. As it turns out, our dreams were crushed as much as whatever made that mysterious white power on the floor outside our room.
Our stay started out delightfully with a plesant encounter with the lovely receptionist who is the reason we doubled the number of stars we rated the service at this “establishment.” Our first inkling of the surprises on the horizon was the antique sign by the front desk advertising amenities once offered by this hotel in its hayday, but many of those offering were crossed out including the promised continental breakfast. The tactfully informative receptionist explained the changes to the hotel’s services. However, even the amiable receptionist had no choice but to enforce the charge of the refundable “security” deposit for our room which happened to be more expensive than the room itself. However, the charges were reversed six days later so there’s no hard feelings there.
We strolled down the hall and noticed a glass door on the first floor with a phenomenal view of the mountains through a delightful mosaic of cracks. See photo below! We appreciated the artistic commentary on the fragility of life that instilled in us a healthy touch of fear.
It took a few minutes for us to fully take in the grandeur of our room as only three of the eight lights were functional, those three being confined to the bathroom area. However, upon flashlight investigation, we got a better picture of our home for the night. Here were a few of the special quirks that made our room one of a kind: a broken chain attached to the desk, reminiscent of a long-ago-stolen microwave a missing chunk of carpet in the entryway a cigarette burn on the unwashed sink a mysterious sticky substance said to be “fuzzy and expanding” on the bedside table stained towels (both of the two towels provided for our four-person room) burrs below the mattress holes in the sheets
However, we were overjoyed to find that no bedbugs resided in our room at the same time as us to our knowledge. Another blessing was that our window was unbroken unlike the window of our compatriots.
We requested more towels, pillows (as two were provided for four people), sheets, and blankets, but all the accommodating receptionist was able to scrounge up were clean bedskirts and towels with a delightful greasy stained pattern. I was ecstatic to finally have the opportunity to use a bed skirt as a pillow; it’s been on my bucket list for years. However, real pillows are my typical preference.
All in all, we would recommend this hotel for anyone who is adventurous and doesn’t mind sacrificing cleanliness, a feeling of safety, and the comfort of clean sheets for...
Read moreUpon arrival, I noticed out front of the building that some of the rooms had broken blinds in the windows and that there were quite a few windows open along with a fan in one of the windows. I thought this was very odd considering how hot it was. The girl at the counter was not initially at the desk. She was also very distracted once she arrived. I believe her children were using the computer in the entryway.
We had two rooms reserved both with two queens. One for my husband, myself, and our eldest daughter and one for my other daughter and her children. One of the rooms had a very strong perfume smell. Due to my allergies, I had to give that room to my daughter and grandchildren. My daughter's A/C did not work quite right. We reported this to the man at the desk the next morning. He placed a work order to have it fixed. Additionally, one of the rooms did not have towels, and the other room only had one towel.
When we returned in the evening, the A/C had completely stopped working. The poor man at the desk was very helpful even while he was having to deal with several customers showing up to check in. He looked up in a book to see if the repair order had been completed and told us that the repairman had not had a chance to work on it and provided us with a choice of 3 different rooms to move into. None of them had A/C units that appeared to work well either. We chose the one that provided the most cooling. It was a room with a king bed only, so we switched rooms with my daughter and her children and took the king room. We were provided a roll-away bed for our oldest daughter.
The next day, things appeared fine until we returned in the evening. The A/C had gone out in this room also. We switched rooms again and received one of the few rooms that had a new A/C unit. In the meantime, the room that my daughter and her children were staying in started having A/C noise. Our oldest daughter had become rather sick due to high altitude and dehydration, so changing rooms again was very inconvenient. (She ended up going to the Emergency Room the following morning.)
The next day was our checkout date. Had the motel been in decent shape we would have stayed another day because we had to delay our departure date until the next day due to our daughter's illness; however, we opted to find another hotel to stay in rather than deal with taking the chance that we would have change...
Read moreUPDATE Edited to add, like many others below, I was charged a $100 deposit for this room that was never returned and it has been 11 days since my check out. Like the other reviews, I don't smoke and definitely did not smoke in this hotel or cause any other damage. No one answers the phone and the hotel has not responded to my email inquiry. I will have to open a dispute on my credit card. Again, don't stay here if you don't want to waste $100 on this scam of a business.
Hi there friend. I see you are here in the review section, perhaps much like myself; hoping there is some redeeming quality to this absurdly cheap motel that will convince you the money saved is the worth the stay.
I am a bit of a connoisseur of bad motels. A motel is for a shower and a few hours sleep, no more, I don't need anything fancy. I have stayed in some bad places. This one ranks in the top two.
I came to the CO Springs area for a Weekend long outdoor event (stayed two nights) I would typically just camp, but with unpredictable February weather, I booked a room. Honestly I would have preferred sleeping in my car.
The system to check in was down. My room key had to be reset EVERY SINGLE TIME I left and came back in. There was one single towel in my room; not one towel SET, but one bath towel and nothing else (and no more available when I asked). The sink leaked water everywhere. No tissues. The sheets were old, ripped, and stained, but appeared clean. A dusting of hairs that clearly were not mine. My hair is blue.
The whole place reeks of smoke. It says no smoking but this whole building stank ( and so does the Days Inn across the way... they're owned by the same people or something, as they share a computer system).
And, finally, there were police in the lobby the second evening I went downstairs. Safety is top priority for me when traveling as I am often solo. This was unsettling. Redeeming qualities? The heat worked and despite a police presence, it was mostly quiet the few hours I was there in the evenings. I got there late ish and left very early.
If you choose to stay here I recommend keeping all your valuables on your person and not left in the room. Bring your own towels. And if it's decent weather, seriously just camp at a state park. Or stay literally anywhere else. Do not subject your family or guests...
