Overall Experience: My two-night stay at The Meyer was decent, but there is significant room for improvement, particularly given the nearly $250 per night rate.
Room: We stayed in the Garden Haus Suite No. 903. The room itself was spacious and included convenient amenities such as a mini-fridge and microwave. The air conditioning worked well and kept the room comfortable throughout our stay. While the bed was reasonably comfortable, the sheets were noticeably worn and pilled, detracting from the overall experience. The living room furniture appeared outdated and in need of refurbishment.
Due to the room’s location on the edge of the property, the WiFi connection was extremely weak. Installing a signal booster or extender may help alleviate this issue. This was particularly inconvenient since the television only offered Roku streaming without basic cable—reliable internet is essential for this setup. Additionally, the remote in the living area did not function, as the batteries were corroded. We also encountered a few bugs (including cockroaches and beetles), which, while perhaps understandable in a rural area, could be better managed with more effective pest control.
Pool Area: The poolside experience was disappointing. Lounge chairs were dirty and appeared poorly maintained. The pool itself contained a fair amount of debris, and clean towels were not available in the designated area—we had to locate a staff member, and the towels provided were stained.
Property: The natural setting and views of the creek were serene and peaceful, which we greatly appreciated. However, the property as a whole seemed neglected. Many of the common areas, including fire pit seating and porches, were in need of power washing and general upkeep. Additional trash receptacles around the property would also help maintain cleanliness.
Location: The location is convenient and within walking distance to dining and shopping options. Parking was readily available and easy.
Service: While staff responded promptly to text inquiries, the absence of on-site personnel (even during daytime hours) made it difficult to address issues in real time. A more visible staff presence would greatly enhance the guest experience.
Conclusion: Although The Meyer has potential, especially given its location and natural surroundings, the lack of attention to maintenance, cleanliness, and service detracts from what could be a much more enjoyable and premium experience. At this price point, higher standards...
Read moreThis property was beautiful. Overall I am giving it a 3 star. Lack of service was a pain point for me. We went last weekend and the weather was perfect. Lots do to and explore in the quaint little town of Comfort. From the reviews I had high expectation. The price we paid for 2 days was quite hefty almost as much as a Westin or Hilton. Probably even more to be honest. We booked a cottage for a family of two with one of the families having a 1 year old. The cottage was very beautiful, very Texas. Rooms were big. It’s a vintage country interior so if having a hanging cow skin on your wall and dead crickets everywhere is not your vibe then don’t go here. Pros: beautiful property. Restaurants and cafe in 5 min walking distance. One late night restaurant (Fajita street) open till 11:00 p.m but kitchen closes at 10:00 p.m. Town is beautiful with lot of interesting architecture. Good for a relaxing weekend. Good for families as the property has a lot of big cottages with multiple rooms, kitchen and dining area. Very picturesque. Great restaurant, Fredricksburg was 27 min away. We enjoyed Oktoberfest season. Great vineyards that you can visit for wine tasting within 10-20 min distance.
Cons: service was horrible. No housekeeping was provided during our stay. Upon checking in later night we had a dead crickets and some Alive ones everywhere situation. We had to sweep the floors of every room for all the dead crickets. 🦗 it was quite horrifying for us. Spent half an hour cleaning them and then vacuuming the floors. Whatever they used to kill the crickets it worked since most of them were dead thankfully, however the cleaning part was left to us. It was so many that if we didn’t clean that night we would stepping on them wherever we went inside the cottage. Next day I called to let the front desk know to send someone to come and clean it while we were out for the day and to send housekeeping. That was not done. We got back to the same dead leftover crickets we missed while cleaning. Hotels staff’s excuse was “it’s cricket” season. I didn’t like that answer. You are still supposed to keep your properly clean atleast inside while you are expecting guests. Paid guests. Anyway, would I come back?...
Read moreSuch a lovely property. The rooms are spacious, clean and elegant. For our experience we arrived late I suppose, 6pm-ish. There was no front desk so I booked online and followed the instructions. I called and spoke to a friendly person who told me our room door code would be sent via text and email along with a property map to find which building we would stay in. Access to the room was easy with a code entered on the door. We stayed in the Mercantile room 805. It was absolutely perfect. Walked down the street to Comfort Pizza for a delicious outdoor dinner. The pool is open until 10pm so I had plenty of time for a swim. In the text was an invitation to the speakeasy. He looked but never found it. I called the number and they were able to tell me they weren't offering the speakeasy that day even tho it was a Saturday night and we'd received the text invitation. Disappointed about that. The next morning I receive a text offer to extend our stay with a discounted rate. So we did. I walked around the grounds that morning to find a door that was supposedly the front desk but door was locked even tho the text stated the front is attended at 8:30am. I was able to text stating we wanted to stay another night.
We stayed Sunday night also but that night we went in search of a working ice machine. None to be found. There is one at the end of the building we stayed in however, it was not working. Walked back to Comfort Pizza for dinner again as it seems that is the only restaurant open at dinner time. At least that is all we could find near.
During our stay we only saw 1 employee, a house keeper that graciously gave us fresh towels. The grounds are kept immaculate. Beautiful place, very quiet and somewhat secluded. It seems they operate by text message which is fine. I texted that we had left Monday morning and received a receipt via email. We very much enjoyed our stay and will definitely stay again if...
