During a recent family trip to LA, we stayed at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Corona, an IHG Hotel. While the location is convenient—close to I-15—and the room was a decent size for our family of four, the overall experience left much to be desired.
Upon checking in, we were immediately hit with a strong bleach smell in the room, which made for an unpleasant first impression. Housekeeping only occurs every other day, which would have been acceptable if the service was thorough, but even on the days they did refresh the room, they failed to empty the trash despite us specifically requesting this from the front desk. The bathroom was in poor condition, with broken caulk around the tub and a generally neglected feel.
While the beds were comfortable, and the room featured a large TV and functional HVAC, the hotel seemed poorly maintained overall. We also had to repeatedly ask for additional towels, even though we were a party of four, which became increasingly frustrating.
The complimentary breakfast was another letdown. The pancake machine produced tiny, disappointing pancakes, and the hot items, including eggs and potatoes, were dry and overcooked. The fruit was either stale or overripe, and while the inclusion of soy milk and Chobani yogurt was appreciated, it didn’t make up for the overall poor food quality. The hot food items were rarely hot, and one day, the potatoes were downright soggy.
Perhaps the most baffling part of our stay was the tipping QR code left in the room, encouraging us to tip the housekeeping staff. In a country where tipping culture has gotten out of hand, this felt completely absurd given the lackluster housekeeping we received. We didn’t even get a proper refresh, and yet we were being asked to tip for what was essentially minimal service.
The hotel had a number of esoteric rules posted around the property, creating an atmosphere of unnecessary rigidity. For example, when we tried to fill our water bottles at the lobby water machine, the manager insisted we had to go to the gym’s water fountain on the second floor instead. This kind of inflexibility only added to the frustration of the stay.
The elevator floors were dirty, and the pool was small and not well-maintained. The back parking lot felt unsafe, with two homeless individuals sitting near the electrical box, making the area feel uncomfortable and uninviting.
Considering the price per night, this hotel did not meet expectations. There are better IHG properties available at this rate, and the combination of poor maintenance, bad breakfast, unnecessary rules, and frustrating service made this a 2-star experience at best. It's unlikely we'd return to this property...
Read moreWe had a large group stay at this hotel for work. We rented a total of 7 rooms so that each person can have there own due to Covid. I arrived one day later than everyone else and when i got to the hotel there was no room for me. We had a reservation, we spoke to the lady at the front counter the morning of and we were assured that I had a room. The lady that was working the night I arrived was as helpful as she could be but since there were no more available rooms we were at a stand still. She said she could see my reservation but for some reason it was cancelled. Informed me that she could not see why or what would have caused them to cancel my room. Luckily we had ONE room with a double bed so I had to bunk up with another of our employees for the night.
Now for the checkout. We stayed for 2 nights. The morning of the second night we had 4 rooms checking out. Everyone else was staying. That morning we went to the front desk and checked out of our rooms. We even got the receipt from the gentleman working. At around 1:00PM I get a phone call stating that one of the rooms on my account was not checked out and they were trying to clean his room. This room was not supposed to be checked out. I explained to the lady on the phone which I assume was the manager and got that problem straightened out. Then she begins to tell me that 2 of the other rooms that we checked out of were not suppose to and that she would have to charge me the 2 additional nights since she could not clean the room. Actually told me that it was MY fault that they did not know we checked out. Mind you, we checked out that morning and have the receipt to show for it. She was not happy about this because now she would/could have 2 empty rooms that night. As a customer there is not much that we can do. We did what we were supposed to and then for her to try and charge me a night for 2 rooms that they didn't know were checked out of is not the way you...
