My stay here was a comedy of errors. First, our pet-friendly room was heavily sprayed with a perfume scented room deodorizer. The front desk clerk said that the rooms are sprayed with a 'strong chemical' but was unwilling to find us a different room that hadn't been sprayed yet. She said she wasn't going to go around to each room and smell them. When I told her that we would have to check out she said, "You do what you have to do - you know your body the best". ||Cancelling our reservation was super frustrating. First of all, upon check in, you use a kiosk - almost like an ATM machine. A very nice and professional 'virtual person' appeared and went through the check in process with me. I asked if she were in the building and she said no. I asked if she were in another country and she said she wasn't allowed to say. Regardless, I continued the process, scanned my ID, paid with my CC and out popped two key cards for our room. Honestly, at first, this process really bothered me because I think it's important to be greeted by a "real person" when checking into a hotel. ||Trying to cancel my reservation was a nightmare. The nasty clerk told me that there was no manager on duty and that I would have to call the hotel in 2-3 hours to talk to a manager who would decide if I would be charged for the first night. She also said that she documented in the computer that she went to the room along with other staff and noted that there is no smell in the room. Errrr! || I asked for a print out of the bill that showed that I checked out on the same day. She printed me a receipt that showed that I checked in on Friday and out on Sunday. I asked her to cross out the check out date and to put the correct check out and initial. She said that she is just he front desk clerk and that she will not initial anything. ||Completely furious, I left and instead of waiting to the 2-3 hours to call the manager (who was probably in a different country) I immediately called and was directed, once again to a very nice person (sounded like the same virtual lady who checked me in). I explained my situation, including the rudeness of the clerk, and was told to call back in 2-3 hours. Errrr!||Within a few hours, I received a call from, guess who... the grumpy front desk clerk. She was incredibly professional and told me that I would not be charged for cancelling my reservation. ||Needless to say, I am grateful for not being charged, but the whole experience caused a lot of stress and drama to the start of a relaxing vacay at the coast. ||My views have changed... I would rather deal with a "nice virtual human" during check in than a nasty front desk...
Read moreHard to say whether to give it 2 or 3 stars. Being an average between the location, the stay, and the room.
It is close to the ocean. Well... it was close to the bay, which is actually a Groin. It's called Whaler Island Groin and it's an erosion control project. There is plenty of beach to check out and comb. There are several restaurants within walking distance, and I mean close. My fave, North Coast Ocean Sports & Grill. The Chart House, not so much. Anyway, there's a place there where the sea lions hang out. Brown pelicans and seagulls can be found on the other side of the spit.
It's pet friendly and that's a plus in my book. But with that said.... let's talk about their pet-friendly rooms. Sadly, you'll have to be on the first floor. Listening to all that wonderful stomping of little feet upstairs because those folks left their fido's at home and brought the kids instead and the hotel staff thought it a good idea to put kids upstairs. P.S. Never a good idea!!! I would love to find kid-free hotels.
They also use sheets from smoker rooms for the pet-friendly rooms, as if somehow both types are correlated with each other. Now, I admit, not everyone takes care of their dogs, or bathes them, but come on, smokers? Gross! I mean, if you want to smoke, go ahead, your business, right? But don't think that the smell of my dog will drown out the smell of cigarettes.
Additionally, because it is a pet-friendly room and we are being charged extra for that, it would be great to see the hotel put that money to good use and get the carpets cleaned. Those were pretty gross.
The front desk was completely understaffed and poor Tory could have used another person there.
You can open up your window and get some fresh sea breeze coming in. They have a continental breakfast in the hotel lobby. I didn't try it because I wanted to try Vita Cucina instead. Glad I did. I think if I come through again, I'll save my $ and go to the Super 8 instead. For some reason, I thought I'd get better than that for $175 for the night (that's with tax, ocean view, and...
Read moreThis is the second time I've stayed in these rooms in 1 week. First time, we stayed in a pet friendly room, for 1 night. Room was okay. Spacious. However. The bedcover smelled like rotten fish?!?! I have a poor smeller (translation: I don't smell much, my other half is near smell-blind AKA zero sense of smell). However, The scent kept bothering me. Took a while to discover it was the bed cover. Even found a large stain on it. Maybe blood?! Was an odd brown, many things can make that color stain, though. The stain was larger than a hand print and at the top, where you pull the covers up to tuck under your neck. Rather disturbing when you think about it. Should have been stain removed / spot removed out. . .First stay: TV had a black line running down one side of the picture. Was thin, maybe the width of a #2 pencil eraser head. But, bothersome nonetheless, when you got a room to basically chill in a hotel room away from home....and watch TV because you don't have cable at home. We did inform the front desk, they never changed it or moved us to another room. Also, First stay: Microwave was dirty. Fingerprints all over the front and a small piece of red food stuck to its turn table. . . . . WHY DID I RETURN?!? ? ? That'd a valid question. Answer: found myself in town, for business, on short notice. Literally, my first two hotel choices were sold out (it was for a Mon-Wed too). This was the 3rd choice, as every other hotel was a HUGE price drop and that scared me. So far.... room is good. Stay tuned... p.s. PERLITAS MEXICAN RESTAURANT, down the road on the left, is absolutely amazing food!!!
Update: forgot to add that there is no breakfast, spa is permanently closed, and if you do need anything for your room- you must go down to the office and retrieve...
