I have stayed at some sketchy places before and had some terrible service experiences but my experience in Crescent City borders, if not crosses the line of fraud. While on an impromptu trip to the coast, we looked for vacant rooms. There were very few options. Super 8 had a room that would allow our dogs to accompany us, for a fee. About 2:30PM on 7/27/19, we check in to the motel and promptly got a room. (You will see why they had rooms available when most places didn't - I've stayed at plenty of Super 8's in the past and never have had this experience). We are told the room will not be ready for a few hours, so we leave with other adventures to attend too. About 7:30PM (all times correspond with our receipts) we returned with our dinner and entered the room for the first time. In the middle of July, we saw the temperature reach into the mid 80's locally. However, now, once in the room, the air outside the motel room was cooler than the air inside. WTF - right? The heater was on. This was weird considering it's JULY! I tried to turn the heater off - no luck. I looked for an override switch or button - no luck. My wife and I talked about our options for a few minutes and realized, it was too hot - there was no way we could sleep here. We went to the management office and met with Terry, who seemed helpful. I got the feeling she knew this room had a problem. She came to our room 5 to 10 minutes later, fiddled with the thermostat and indicated she could not turn the heater off. There were no other rooms. I told her we were not staying here, this was just too hot and uncomfortable. She acknowledged this. I asked for a full refund and she said she would refund our money. We were packed up and out the door in 5 minutes. As we turned our key cards back to Terry, she looked at my wife and seemed surprised, stating to my wife that she had, "already processed" our full refund. Great - right?
Upon checking my credit card records today (two days later), the original charge ($161) was still there but only a fraction was returned ($35). I call Super 8 and get ahold of Terry. Her tune has changed. She claims her manager told her to only refund the pet fees. I asked her if she was really going to make me call Corporate and dispute the charges with my credit card company. Her response was less than apathetic indicating she had to do what her manager told her to do.
So now we get to play the game with corporate and my credit card company to get our money back. This place is a scam. Avoid it at all costs. The main thing to remember, even though this is a Super 8 and expectations are probably pretty low, this is a Wyndham property and in no way shape or form do they live up to the Wyndham name. Terry knew something was wrong with the room yet she rented it out anyhow. This is pretty much the definition of fraud. Yes, corporates been called and the disputed charges have already been started.
Corporate - if/when you read this, I'll consider removing or editing this review if you make...
Read moreTo give this hotel, one star is an insult to one star hotels. The person who checked me in was incredibly rude. before booking my room online I called regarding my dogs and they said that they were a pet friendly hotel. I booked a double king room online, and when I got there was told that the doule king room was not pet friendly. I was moved to a smaller room for the same price. When I told him I had five people and that was undesirable, he told me I couldn’t have five people in one room. After arguing for a while, he looked at my reservation and saw that it was 2 adults and 3 children and it was OK for me to have five people in one room. I told him that I had called regarding the dogs and was told that the hotel was pet friendly and I could bring them. When I booked, the page for the room said it was pet friendly, and that if they have rooms that are not pet friendly they should let people know that when they call. After arguing for a while, I gave up and decided to go to my room. As I parked, a lady came out of her room and told me that she had found bedbugs in her room, and had taken an entire cup of them to the front desk. Before I’m packing my car, I went to the room to look for bedbugs. I did not see any. However, the room was filthy. There was stains on the curtains and blankets. There was hair and stains in the in the sheets. There was blood on the box spring, the wall and the bathroom door. Before booking this hotel, I tried to find another one that would accept the dogs and was unable to. I felt like I had no choice but to stay. The picture of that hangs above the bed was covered in dust and dead bugs which was up against the head of the bed. The microwave and refrigerator smell like fish and had food splattered in them and I was unable to use them. The remote did not work due to dead batteries and with how rude the person at the front desk was, we decided to just replace the batteries ourselves. There was so much dog poop in the grass around the hotel that you could not walk without stepping in it. The heater was incredibly loud. However, it did heat the room. There were people arguing in the middle of the night and the the lady that stayed in the room next to us, kept me up letting her dog out and having sex. As far as breakfast goes, there was cereal with no milk, and nothing else. I will never stay in this hotel in any...
Read moreWe stayed here on our trip back home from our SoCal and west coast road trip vacation. We tend to stay mid-economy when we stay places. This experience is my second to worst experience I’ve had at a motel chain brand. The quality of the cleanliness I would expect from an off brand mom-n-pop motel on a bad day. Not a National chain. I will likely never stay again at a Super 8 again if there is another option available because of this stay. This ruined that chain brand, and makes me question the quality of any Wyndham brand hotels/motels.
We stayed in room 106 on July 7th, 2023 for just under $180 (including all fees, I’m writing this on July 8th). The bathroom door has a hole in the door. The hook on the bathroom door was barely hanging on. The hinges were rusted. The tub/shower faucet leaked all night loud enough to hear the dripping all night. The floor transition was missing from the room to sink area. The caulking in the sink area was peeling in some areas, didn’t always match, and overal aesthetically displeasing. The hair dryers vent was dirty. The fridge was scratched up and dirty on the outside. The inside of the fridge smelled and the racks were starting to rust. The floors felt like they quit cleaning midway thru. The door to the room was dirty and the floor moulding around the room was dirty. The stairs right outside our room had cautionary tape and 2x4s on drilled on them long enough that the screws had some rust.
The continental breakfast was low-end mid quality. They did have a good waffle maker, so that was a bonus. The OJ was definitely watered down. There was two cereal options in loose bulk cereal dispensing containers . And normally, I would have cereal, but because of the cleanliness of the room, I had distrust in the cleanliness of any food not individually wrapped.
The office and breakfast area was clean, and was the level of cleanliness I would usually expect from a National chain. The rooms were below my cleanliness expectations of a National chain.
Overall, I would no longer stay in a Super 8 if I have other options available because of this stay. The topper on this stay is my son woke up with pink eye… not saying that’s from here. But he does have a habit of sleeping with a pillow on his face. We are literally currently at urgent care getting treatment while I am...
