The stay at this facility was very similar to the weather during our 2 days there... dreary, and kind of "cold". The greeting at the front desk wasn't BW's usual "warm" welcome it was a little "cool" and indifferent. Kind of a "lets get this over with" attitude. After a long days ride the first thing we like to do is to have a lingering "hot" shower to wind down, and get the days road grime off. There was no lingering involved because after five minutes there was only "cold" water. I called the front desk and was asked if I would like maintenance to stop by the room. It was obvious to me there was no hot water tank in our room nor were there any circuit breakers that might be reset, besides, we were in various states of undress. I explained all this to the desk person, and that it made maintenances' trip to our room inconvenient, and unnecessary. That the problem was most likely elsewhere. I was then asked if I would like to have maintenance call my room. I didn't really see the point, but said "sure, have 'em call". We soon received a call back, but from the front desk, who instructed us to "wait for 15 minutes and try again". The 15 minute wait netted us a very similar results, but with a new variation. After 5 minutes "hot" you got a 5 to10 second "cold" rinse and then the water got "hot" again very "hot". The third conversation with the desk was not congenial, but it achieved the results we were seeking. The second day of our stay we decided to stop at the facilities office to see if they had any suggestions for a brief day trip to see the local redwoods. We were told about a nearby State Park that would be worth a visit, and short discussion ensued between the people at the desk as to whether or not the roads were now paved, and it was decided that they were. We were given some quick directions and off we went. I won't go into details, so suffice it to say the roads going into the park made a series of rather quick transition from twisty paved lined road (nice) to narrow twisty unlined road (nervous) and ultimately narrow sweeps, and switch backs on loose dirt and gravel. The kind of roads half ton touring bikes are NOT made for, and to the best of our information shouldn't have been there. The misinformation didn't result in any serious damage to my wife, me, or the bike. It could have easily been worse. Its the kind of advice you need to be accurate though, and in the end we wished we hadn't asked at all. I could move on to the restaurant, (the wait staff was marvelous) but I'm...
Read moreOne can tell they are trying to be a decent hotel. The WIFI is beyond spotty. When calling to asked the front desk about it-they didn’t know why there was an issue. There have been several reviews since mid July discussing the poor WiFi. While this maybe a recent issue it isn’t new. It’s been going on for a few weeks. Their solution is to reset the router. This isn’t working. They need to come up with a better solution to the issue. The WiFi is fine near the hotel lobby but if you’re in an out building forget about it working! When you call to tell the front desk about the WiFi all you is we will send someone to check on it. It’s great they will check on it not working. They don’t fix the issue.
If you want to wash clothes-bring your own quarters as they don’t have quarters at the front desk. When I went to ask all they had was 2 quarters. When I ask where I could get quarters the front desk person said try a gas station. If you have laundry onsite you need to have quarters to exchange for bills.
Make sure you get requests in for towels, blankets ext in before the cleaning staff goes home at 5pm. The front desk person isn’t able to leave the lobby. We notice when someone needed help riding their room the front desk person wasn’t able to leave to help them. When we asked for a blanket we were told there wasn’t anyone able to get one as they were unable to leave the front desk.
It’s sad because you can tell they put some money into the hotel to try and upkeep it. The employees are nice from the front desk person, housekeeping and breakfast cook. They are all trying. The management is the one to blame and at fault for not investing in WiFi, stocking the money on the weekend, ensuring the all the washing machines are working (2 are broken), the hot tub is broken, pool water is cloudy.
The excuse is we are trying to make changes and figure out a solution is a sad excuse for issues that are re-occurring for several weeks. The WiFi this should not be a multi week issue. Large companies have figured out how to deliver WiFi over...
Read more9-2-24 Checked in to a "newly remodeled" room. Was told my room number was 316 and instructed to take elevator to the second floor. Turns out the first floor doesn't exist. Ground level rooms are 200 and 2nd level rooms are 300. Okay, I can live with that. Decent enough room. However... the mattress pad didn't fit the bed and was wrinkly ( deep pocket mattress pad on a smaller mattress). There was no fitted bottom sheet. The bed was very poorly made. I took it apart and the "bottom sheet" looked dingy and dirty. There was hair on the mattress cover. I went to the front desk and was assured that Best Western PLUS has very high standards and fitted sheets are part of that standard. They would correct the situation while I was out. They called me latter to say unfitted sheets ARE their standard and that no one will be coming to my room to properly make the bed. I asked for fresh sheets (so I could make the bed) and they brought up "their best sheets." Their best sheets where some really awful 100% polyester textured things that seemed like a cross between draperiers and shower curtains. Really disappointing. I had an expectation that AT THE LEAST there would be quality bedding for $200+ per night. But NOPE. Would not recommend. And... no screen in the "newly remodeled" window. When asked if we could be moved to another room we were told there were none available. As I type this at 9:18 pm, there are 21 rooms available according to their web site.
Okay, sorry for the length here. 9-3-24. Free Breakfast with room. Super dirty carpet, cool concrete floor though. No gravy for biscuits, no egg only whites, no milk for cereal. Enjoy your continental style slice of bread...
