Great location for beach, dining & trinket shopping.
The people running this motel are really nice - from the front desk to the maid/cleaning people. The room was a seaside charming with pretty blue & white walls, cute bedspreads, and a small table with arrowback chairs.
Very pet friendly and family oriented. There was a flat screen TV (highly neglected by us), small coffee pot, hair dryer & a nice big dorm room sized fridge. A microwave might have been nice to have - but so not a huge deal.
It's literally a super short walk to the public beach, and there are several restaurants and a couple of gift shops that are within only a couple of minutes walking distance as well.
My only complaint (if I had one) was that the room wasn't quite as clean as other places we've stayed .... but its really hard to keep a seaside room clean/sand free. Must be pure murder trying to clean the steady supply of sand out of the bathtub and off of the ceramic tile floors (seriously. I lived in New Mexico - you, quite literally, just can not get rid of the sand) ... However, the coffee pot looked like it never (like, ever) got cleaned ... which was kind of gross; but also a non-issue for us, as we brought our own - but, still. Clean the coffee pot - and your coffee drinkers will love you even more than we already do. 😉
Overall - this is a great place, and we would definitely...
Read moreWe enjoyed our stay. If you are high maintenance and expect a Hilton at the price of a Motel 6 then you won't be happy so move on. If you like a nice, quaint facility that has character and is within walking distance of the beach then you will like the Gulf Breeze. It is an old style family hotel, close walk to a very enjoyable family atmosphere beach. There is a beach on the West end with all the amenities of the rich and famous but we chose to stay and enjoy the quiet. There is a golf course just a short jaunt to the East and we ate breakfast at their restaurant a few times. There is a lil corner pub with nice local community atmosphere within walking distance. I give it 5 stars because it was a great value for what we spent and the enjoyment we had while staying there. It is not a Hilton but we knew that when we parked, and if you don't like bugs, sand in the floor and some mold then you don't need to go to a humid tropical climate,...
Read moreThis was our 2nd stay at the Gulf Breeze in as many years. It’s a great place to stay, and won’t break the bank. The staff is very helpful and the rooms are comfortable and clean. For our second stay, we got the suite, with a full kitchen. The kitchen is probably not quite as stocked as your kitchen at home, but there are definitely enough utensils on hand to cook a good meal. Outside of the hotel, the beach is not very crowded and well maintained.
One thing about this island, though, is that it can be difficult to find a place to dine out, especially with a larger group. A lot of the restaurants are closed during the first few days of the week, making other places jam packed with long wait times. It’s not an impossible thing to navigate, but it helps to know that ahead of time.
All in all, though, Dauphin Island and the Gulf Breeze are great and I...
