I am giving this hotel a 5 star experience, not because it is a 5 star hotel, but because the experience I had at this hotel was worth the rating. Overall my experience here made my vacation so much better.
I was nervous about staying here due to negative reviews and honestly when I first arrived there was a small inconvenience that had me concerned. When we arrived the lobby was very hot & our room was not ready. I had read a review that others had waited hours or weren't able to get a solid time frame, but they were able to tell me "should be no more than an hour although I'm not completely sure." The alarm bells started ringing in my head because we had driven down from NW Indiana, so we had been in the car for 2 days and just really wanted to check in. I arrived at 4pm, the room was ready by 4:50. I was able to run over to the Walmart in port orange and gather some groceries for our stay, before I left the checkout line, the room was ready.
Yes, there is a parking fee charged after you get there. It's $15 a night. I was fortunate to read the reviews so this was not an unexpected expense and I had well prepped for it. I never had any issues finding several parking spots at any time of day or night, even nights we returned after 11pm.
I was immediately satisfied with my room. There were no issues whatsoever. I guess you could go off other reviews and say some updates could be useful, but nothing that interfered with functioning. The room was clean and sanitary, there were no major stains or rips. Everything worked as it should except for the ice machine on the fridge, which wasn't a big deal as we were on the same floor as the ice machine.
The pool was clean and wasn't crowded. For those who reviewed saying the hot tub did not have jets- there is a button to turn the jets on beside the beach shower. I didn't learn that until my 4th day there & I don't think many people did know because they were never in use. We always chose to swim either in the morning or in the evening because the sun wasn't at its peak and the large building cast a nice shadow. The water temp was always comfortable. There is a bar window at the pool, plenty of seating.
There is beach access & the beach was never crowded. We stayed from June 9 to June 14. We wanted to stay in Daytona Shores due to being close enough to drive down to Orlando for Disney. We drove to Orlando 3 of the days and it was anywhere from an hour and fifteen minutes to an hour and a half drive depending on traffic.
The free breakfast was decent. It's kind of a buffet spread, which didn't vary too much day to day: scrambled Eggs, sausage, waffles, oatmeal, gravy and biscuits, grits, cereal, yogurt, fresh fruit, pastries, French toast sticks, tortillas, toast, bagels, English muffins, some sort of hash mix, potatoes or hashbrowns. It's not salted, which is good for guests who have a limited salt intake, but salt, pepper and other condiments are available. There was also a soda fountain, fridge with milk, chocolate and white, and a juice machine with orange and apple. There is always coffee and water available in the lobby. The breakfast attendants were AMAZING and were constantly moving and working to keep everything stocked, freshed, and cleaned up.
The front desk ladies were awesome. Two in particular, A. & R. Were able to give me local suggestions, even when I hadn't asked- Cherry Hill ice cream is nearby and amazing! They have homemade ice cream both for kids/nondrinkers and adult beverage infused. I don't drink so the regular menu options were perfect and the staff there are amazing as well. I was able to get quarters for the laundry at the front desk.
I only visited the bar once, the lady working was also very nice and she made a really good N-A marg for me!
Housekeeping are the real MVPs. I was very grateful to come back from a long day out being so exhausted and coming back to freshly made beds, a refreshed room, empty trash cans and restocked supplies/towels/washcloths.
I would absolutely...
Read moreWe have stayed at this Marriott property about half a dozen times over the past year and for this last trip we referred TWELVE different families to join us for our end-of-summer beach trip. This stay will unfortunately be our last. Despite our loyalty and the significant business we’ve brought, we were treated in an unwelcoming, unprofessional manner that made the trip unnecessarily stressful. We initially thought we’d found our go-to summer destination. Sadly, due to the GM’s unprofessional conduct, invasive staff behavior, and lack of basic hospitality, we will not be returning.
Here are some of the major issues we experienced: Incorrect Payment Threat At 6:00 a.m. on the day of our arrival, I received an email from John Ellis (the GM’s son) claiming that my payment from March (five months prior) had not gone through and that my reservation would be canceled if I did not provide a new form of payment. This was completely unnecessary and stressful, as payment had been processed and confirmed when I checked in. Room Changes/Charges Without Consent I originally booked a 530 sq ft city-view one-bedroom suite with a king bed and a pull-out queen sofa. At check-in, I was told my room could not “accommodate” my family of four (two small children included) and that I would have to pay extra for another room. I declined, but when we finally checked in, I was told I’d been “upgraded” to two queen beds—losing the king bed I had booked. My children still slept on the sofa bed. At checkout, I found I had been charged extra for this “upgrade” and had to request a correction. Unhygienic Pool & Invasive Pool Staff The pool water was cloudy and coated with sunscreen residue; I never saw it cleaned during our three-day stay. A “pool monitor boy” named Noah which I had never seen during any previous stays hovered around for hours, staring at guests including our minors which was very uncomfortable. When we asked him to give us privacy, we were told we could “go to the beach” if we didn’t like it. After I complained, he left and did not return the next day. Public Confrontation by the General Manager While I was in the pool, the GM, Sandy, approached me and asked me to get out so we could “talk.” I declined, explaining that I was on vacation and would appreciate if her staff stopped making our stay unpleasant. I also told her we would not be returning—she did not seem concerned. Unnecessary & Threatening Vehicle Announcements The bar attendant repeatedly used a megaphone to announce that a tow truck was coming to remove vehicles. All of our cars were properly registered, and no tow truck ever arrived. The repeated announcements felt more like harassment than policy enforcement. Questioning & Gossiping About Our Group As my invited guests arrived, each was asked if they were with our group. Sandy reportedly told them that we “had history,” which was unprofessional and inappropriate especially given that none of these guests would have booked here if not for...
Read moreHi went just wanted to spend a day or 2 before returning home, wanted to see the beach, me and a friend. Chose this hotel thinking the place would be great. We came around 9ish and went to check in with Amy, she advised us she didn’t know how to split payment in between 2 cards, but she would put both on for them to do so. The next morning, we decided to stay another night, to enjoy the weather, we were told to come down and redo check in, the other lady reassured us that it would b split in between 2 cards. Then went to shower for the day, extremely cold water not a hint of warmth. We went and enjoyed our day, when we returned in the evening, to shower for dinner, still no cold water. At this point we received a call saying we needed to return home immediately. We packed up, and came down stairs, myself and 3 other people stood at desk for 15/20mins , the male manager didn’t come out until someone knocked on the door, to the back. He came out and said he was helping customers. Um no. But whatever, so we explain we need to leave and just make sure payment is split, he says he can’t check us out to call or check back tomorrow. But Al will b good. So we leave. As we are driving home I go use my card at a establishment and it says contact my back. This place has a total of almost 900+ dollars on hold pending my account . The total stay , was on 128$ per card. I call immediately they are saying I have to wait and not sure why 3/4 different numbers and authorizations were done. I asked for corporate and Sand the manager said that they aren’t gonna do anything but forward it to her and she will have 3 days to figure it out. If it was Sandy’s money on hold I’m sure she wouldn’t be happy, all parties working should b investigated, because my back told me one of the charges we weren’t even there any more. I was gonna stay here for Jeep beach but now I’m telling everyone I know, don’t come here. Also carpet was dirty and pull out couch we didn’t use but wanted to make sure nothing fell between the cushions, had stains all over in. The outside could use fresh paint and pressure washing. DONT...
