Not sure why this place has a good rating. I went here once with my mother before and today with her for brunch and both times, we were not a fan of the food (and I wasn't a fan of the coffee.. she didn't get any coffee).
We decided to try it out again this morning since C's Waffles in Port Orange was closed for some reason. Well.. we went in, there were awards in the window which seems promising. Got a table right away even though it was so packed. I got a coffee with the egg, cheese, and bacon biscuit and she got her normal eggs benedict but with hash browns.
The prices were ok but still weren't worth it. $6 for my sandwich and $2.25 for my weak dark coffee (I never drink dark, straight plain coffee).
For mine, the eggs were definitely overcooked, bacon was bland, biscuit was overcooked also and very dry, and they used American cheese on it that tasted like processed American cheese. I even needed to put salt on it, which I never do.
For hers, she did like the hollandaise sauce, eggs, and ham suprisingly, but said her English muffin was overcooked and her hash browns were definitely overcooked as well and pretty bland.
Sorry I didn't take pictures beforehand but we tried to salvage what we could from our meals. The service was decent. They said hi when we came in and let us sit wherever. Yet, our server (no one really) never asked how our food was), nor did they say goodbye when we left (the goodbye I guess isn't completely necessary.. but still..).
As far as the cleanliness, our booth was still wet and they had a fly flying around. Since there were so many people there, it was definitely very noisy and the music was on but I couldn't hear it at all.
Their location is good though, right across from the beach off A1A and near Dunlawton Ave. with...
Read moreIt wasn't that tasty. Disappointed with all the hype and recommendations. I got the Cracked Egg omelet with hash browns, and white toast. The cooking water/juices/oil weren't drained, so it was really sloppy and watery. The mushrooms inside were undercooked and crunchy. Seemed like the mushrooms and peppers were frozen and all the water from such was released into the omelette. Not a very good flavor. Only ate a little bit. My daughter got the hash, scrambled eggs, white toast, and some bacon. She didn't like the hash. Is was okay. I ate some of it, but gave her my hash browns. The waitress was nice enough. Food was delivered quickly. Probably too quickly as quality suffered. Seating was adequate. Atmosphere decent, customers mostly senior citizens. Looking and listening to other diners they didn't seem very impressed. A couple that left before us said they didn't like it. Another gentleman said he loved the biscuits and gravy. It did look good on his plate. I will give this place another try, and order the biscuits and gravy. If that's really, really good I'll edit my review. The simple mistakes on the omelette were unforgivable though. Gotta get that sorted, slow down, pay attention to the quality of the food you're preparing and...
Read moreWe stopped in for brunch at The Cracked Egg Diner on South Atlantic Avenue-and we left genuinely impressed. From the street it looks like a cozy hole‑in‑the‑wall, but inside is surprisingly spacious, bright, and clean-a sunlit diner that feels welcoming .
Service was excellent, with friendly staff who made us feel right at home from the moment we arrived . For my meal, I chose the Eggs Royale: poached eggs and smoked salmon atop an English muffin, served with crispy hash browns. It’s a standout twist on classic Eggs Benedict-rich, satisfying, and well‑executed under their hollandaise . My wife opted for the pancakes and bacon: the pancakes were impressively large, fluffy, and delicious-a perfect brunch complement.
The menu here offers a broad range: from griddle favorites and classic Benedicts, to homemade apple fritters, omelets, sandwiches and more . It caters well to different tastes-whether you’re in the mood for seafood‑topped eggs, comforting breakfast staples, or a hearty sandwich.
Bottom line: The Cracked Egg Diner is more than it appears from the outside-a spacious, bright spot with thoughtful service, creative menu options, and solid brunch classics. I’ll definitely make it a regular stop next time...
