My partner and I stayed here for over two months while he was on a work assignment. We picked Home2Suites because of their kitchenette. We had a full size fridge, a dishwasher, and a sink. From the front desk, we were able to get an air fryer and a stove top. The bed was ok, but we did end up purchasing a mattress topper. The room also has an office chair and table in the room in case you want to work or game. By the end of the stay, I actually preferred to work in the lobby during the day. They have coffee, hot chocolate, and tea available in the lobby 24/7. There is also a laundry room next to the gym, across from the heated pool.
On one cold night, the outdoor fireplace was the perfect spot to relax with a blanket, a glass of wine, the girls, and a dog. It was very cozy.
We got to watch the seasons go from the last light powdered snow to full bloom of spring. When spring hit, the staff brought out colorful cushions for the outdoor patio, planted plants in the parking lot, and decorated indoors with beautiful potted plants. The hotel really bloomed along with the season.
I enjoyed taking breaks at the park across the street. The park has a playground and a pond with a walking path around it. I was lucky enough to be there when there were baby geese, so adorable!
The hotel is within walking distance from town. So even on days when I didn’t have the rental car, I could still get out if I wanted to. Dekalb has some surprisingly great restaurants like Tapa La Luna and Ellwood Steak and Fish House.
We thought we would be bored because we were “out in the sticks” but Dekalb is actually a college town with weekly karoake at HomeTown Sports Bar & Grill, and other things like that in downtown. Additionally, there are four bowling alleys and an arcade. Nearby in sycamore there is an amazing mini golf course. Most importantly, Chicago is only an hour and a half away so we went out nearly every weekend. There are literally events every day in Chicago.
Overall, Dekalb is a nice small town far enough from the city to feel like you’re in the country, when in reality, there is a bustling college community right there, and you’re only about an hour from the city. Home2Suites was the perfect home base for us to explore Dekalb and Chicago.
Most importantly, the staff deserve recognition. The staff were wonderful. Everyone was kind, helpful, and enjoyable to be around. I especially enjoyed talking with the front desk staff, specifically Don, Brenda, and Brenda’s daughter (Im sorry I can’t remember your name, I waited too long to write this.) I wish I could write out everyone’s names but I can’t remember, so just know that we really appreciated all of the staff, the front desk workers, the manager, the cleaning staff, the grounds staff. I could tell that you all put in great effort to keep the hotel at its best.
The cleaning staff did a really wonderful job. Our room was always cleaned to pristine condition and the hotel was spotless. Even though it was difficult for me to communicate with some of the cleaning staff because I am unfortunately not bilingual, they were always so patient and kind as I used google translate on my phone to ask for dishwasher soap or whatever I needed. I could tell they worked very hard and yet they were always willing to pause when I needed something. Thank you all for your hard work.
Once again, thank you to all the staff. We had a wonderful stay.

Read moreI stayed 5 nights at this hotel and every night was great. We arrived at night but still plenty of empty parking spaces near the door which was a plus. They have a big parking lot. You can also pull in front of the door if needed to check-in or load/unload your car. Walking in the front desk is straight ahead and they actually greet you upon arrival. The lobby is pretty big with beautiful couches and chairs. They have 2 two TV’s and sitting areas for the FREE breakfast. Yes I said FREE. The breakfast was take and go style. It consisted of breakfast sandwiches, oatmeal (individual cups), cold cereal, milk, juice, make your own waffles. The employees at the front desk were extremely nice and accommodating, always answering my many questions with a smile and a can do attitude. Also in the loony is the workout room, laundry, and pool (closed for repairs in August 2021). In the workout room there are 2 treadmills, elliptical, bike, yoga balls, weight machine, and weights. They have towels and wipes to clean machines. It was nice. They have 4 floors with elevators. Wastebasket/Recycling in each floor. Room was very nice and roomy. I had 2 Queen beds non smoking suite. It had a full size refrigerator, microwave, sink, dishwasher and dishes. Lots of storage in the kitchen area. They have a desk and chair with plenty of storage in the living area, large TV with streaming options. Plenty of electrical outlets. Plenty of lighting. Comes with iron/ironing board, luggage rack, a curtain that separates the beds from the couch area and ottoman. A large mirror which was nice. The bathroom had a step in shower, plenty of storage as well. The water was hot! And stayed hot. Shower felt so great!! I thought it was a great hotel and I had a wonderful stay. I will stay here whenever I arrive in Dekalb. I have to mention the housekeeping staff. They were so nice. Thanks to the following people at this hotel: Lorraine, Will, Madison, Jocelyn, Holly and Willis!! Rooms were quiet but I did hear my neighbors TV one night but I don’t know if they just had the TV super loud or what. I didn’t hear anything else like people taking etc.. The beds were comfortable. The air conditioning is superb!!! It was 90° the entire time I was there but you couldn’t tell in the room. It was crisp and cool. Very nice hotel. A great addition!!! Another great thing they have computers for your use( FREE) printing (FREE)! You don’t get that in Chicago. They also have a small area to buy snacks : frozen pizza, ice cream, sodas etc I bought a soda, it was $3, not bad. The location is also great, there is a grocery store 5 mins or less away. Nice grocery store. Also, restaurants are just a short car drive away. Hope you enjoy your stay as...
Read moreI've traveled a fair amount domestically and internationally for business (marketing, PR, event management, etc.) and for pleasure, yet I've never stayed at a Home2 Suites. This weekend, I've landed at the DeKalb location for a youth football tournament. I'm not even 24 hours in, and this visit far surpasses any I've had at even the finest accommodations - for a singular reason.
Destyne.
Immediately upon arrival, she was warm, welcoming, personable, and exceptional at building immediate rapport. My first thought, to be perfectly candid, was that I wish the staff I manage were closer, as I'd absolutely try to poach her. She went above and beyond at every opportunity - recalling small details, extending patience tempered with company responsibility, and so much more. As someone with nearly three decades in hospitality, I know this can be a trying profession. While other staff members sat idly by and shot openly annoyed glares in the direction of the healthy room block enjoying the lobby area at a reasonable hour, Destyne sought opportunities to connect with individuals to achieve the desired balance between group guest enjoyment, corporate values, reasonable expectations for environmental quality, transient guest experience, and downright exceptional hospitality.
This staff member is an absolute gem. This feedback is unsolicited and completely candid.
This commentary doesn't begin to express my gratitude and appreciation for Destyne's efforts. Perhaps most revealing is the fact that my notoriously stoic youngest son felt it prudent to share his highly-coveted top-level birthday treat (which hasn't even been shared with the teammates for whom he's here), with a friendly hello every time he passes.
Again, Destyne is the epitome of hospitality. While yes, she's lovely as a human, I'd be remiss not to make crystal clear how fortunate H2S is to have her. My group of 30-ish families couldn't agree more, as her awesomeness is widespread.
Thank you for the pleasurable visit, courtesy of this team member. Without her, it would have been fine; no complaints. But with her? I'll be a volunteer brand...
