The experience of going to this place was not pleasant at all. The two waitresses are older, the one with white hair tied up in a ponytail was very sweet. But the one with short hair like a bob was very rude. Every so often she was scolding us like she was our granny, but not in a cute way but in a way that she had the right to. The other lady served us our tea in lazy sunnan and we understood we could leave them there. Well, some of the tea fell and we cleaned it up and asked for more napkins to have when eating. Well, the one with short hair arrived and scolded us for spilling and having things in the lazy Susan. She told us that if we do it again we would have to leave. We explained to her that we understood the other lady that it was not a problem to have it there. But that we understand that there are people who do it on purpose (as she explained to us that there are people who get there and they just spill stuff on purpose). Although we understand she keeped on scolding us with a very bad attitude. When it was time to order while we were reading the menus, some of my classmates folded the menus when turning the page and she didn't like it either because she said they could break. We understood her and we no longer did it, but again she did not tell us in a kind way. When the time came for me to decide to order a platter that is for two people (I made it on purpose because I liked everything it included and what I had left over I was going to take with me) you would have seen the face she made. She said "YOU wou want that dish for two people?" By this point I was already tired of her attitude. She told me, "That's a lot of food." I told her "Yes, I want it. It's okay, if I don't finish it, I'll take it with me." But she criticized me so much for having chosen that. We were a group of 5 and we had other acquaintances at other tables who told us when they left that they were also being scolded by her every so often. The restaurant wasn't even full so they couldn't be stressed from having a lot of work. Well we ate and the food was nothing special. It wasn't gross, but personally, I have had Chinese food way better than this. When she brought us the food she put it in the lazy susan but she scolded us for having it there. But there was not enough space on the table to put everything on the side! Hardly enough, each one had their own dish, plus we all wanted to share the food and so in the lazy sussan it was easier (that's what they were invented for). She took dishes from us without even asking us if we had finished. And in the end we stayed for a while just talking without eating and she passed by and told us something that implied that we could go now. If it were a day with a lot of people and also if they were already going to close we would understand. But it was neither one nor the other the case. I emphasize that the one with white hair in a pony tail was always kind to us, but the one with short gray hair was very rude. It did not leave us...
Read moreI love Marilyn! She is part of the running experience at Yen Cheng DeKalb. She remembers uncanny amounts of information about her customs—how many kids they have, what they usually order, etc. This is a small dinning operation. The food itself is always exceptional, but the restaurant really need a pick me up. The building in run down and does not reflect its former glory. The staff is also a skeleton crew of family members. I’ve never had a bad service experience, but the last time I was there, it was awful. I waited at least 5 min. to be sat (despite an abundance of available tables), well over 10 min. to order our food and drinks. The food took a while after ordering but I was brought sweet and sour and chicken with no sweet and sour sauce. By the time I caught my waitresses attention, another 5-10 min. Must have gone by. They are very kind and promptly brought the sauce but by then the chicken was cold. Let’s just say it wasn’t the dining out experience I had hoped for. No place is perfect, but it did leave a poor taste in my mouth. The condition of the building combined with this last experience is the reason for the rating. I would rate take out from here with (stars). The building and slow service have no impact on my take...
