5 Stars – A True Hidden Gem in DeKalb!
If you haven’t been to The Junction Eating Place in DeKalb, Illinois, you’re seriously missing out on one of the warmest, most welcoming dining experiences around. I came in on a whim and left feeling like part of the family — and completely stuffed with some of the best comfort food I’ve ever had.
Let’s talk about the hot pork tenderloin with gravy and fries. This dish alone is worth the trip. The pork was perfectly tender, smothered in rich, flavorful gravy that tastes homemade in the best way. The fries were golden, crisp, and served in generous portions — exactly what you want next to a plate of hearty, soul-satisfying food.
But what truly sets The Junction apart isn’t just the food — it’s the people. The owner is one of the most genuinely kind and warm-hearted individuals you’ll meet. There’s a level of care and pride in this place that you just don’t see much anymore. You’re not just a customer here — you’re treated like family, with sincere smiles and conversation that make you feel at home from the moment you walk in.
In a world where full-service restaurants are becoming more and more impersonal, The Junction Eating Place is a rare and beautiful exception. It’s cozy, unpretentious, and clearly built on love — love for good food, good service, and good people. I can’t...
Read moreDekalb Old Heads certainly know about The Junction's status as a local legend and gem, but I'm not sure the newest generation of Huskies has figured it out yet!
We started eating at the Junction as students at NIU, and now as married grads, the Junction is a staple in our household both for dine-in and carry-out. There are so many great dishes to choose from, but I'd like to specifically single out the Cream of Chicken soup (served on Sundays), Egg and Lemon (Avgolemono) soup (served on Wednesdays), and fried chicken dinner as options that taste amazing every time you order them. And that's just lunch and dinner, the breakfasts are amazing, too!
When the day has gotten away from us and cooking dinner feels like a chore, a bowl of delicious soup is only a phone call and short drive away. And when we just want a quiet night out with great food that doesn't break the bank, this is the spot.
Speaking of, let's talk about the value--while prices at other restaurants have skyrocketed, food at the Junction is still cooked fresh to order and remains a great value.
The owner, Chris, is a legitimately friendly and kindhearted individual, too. If you're looking for a cozy environment to enjoy a great plate of food at a great price, you aren't going to find a better spot to hang out than...
Read moreBe careful, they will take money from your account without prior authorization through eatstreet. The food was really good but we didn’t receive the entire order & the overall delivery experience was not good. I ordered an item that stated it came with fries & fresh fruit garnish both on eatstreet & the junction eating place’s menu. I called stating we received the fruit but no fries & the girl said it doesn’t come with them... weird because I have 2 screenshots stating it does?? so that’s also false advertisement. She apologized & said I can come pick them up (which I never did) but the girl I spoke to apparently told eatstreet to put an additional charge on my account for the fries that mind you, I already paid for & didn’t receive. So now I paid for a side of fries TWICE, one of which was unauthorized, yet never received any. I didn’t know until I got an email from eatstreet stating they were notified that I wanted to make an addition to my order. NO. I wanted what I ordered & paid for in the first place. Then eatstreet decided to resolve the issue by applying a coupon to my account but I have to spend so much money in order to use this coupon. Cool, so now I have to spend more money just to get back what was wrongfully taken in the first place? I...
