Our visit for one night on 1/6/18 was quite a terrible experience. The only reason this visit is receiving as much as 2 stars is because the front desk enployee was pleasant, particularly when we first arrived.
Although we had signed up through Hotwire, we knew ahead of time that this was our hotel from using clues in the description. After reading reviews, our assessment and expectation was that the following: *The management seems to follow up on complaints made online *Front desk personnel seemed to be usually pleasant *Cleaning staff not thorough *Rooms not very clean *General furniture and such needs updating and replacements
We decided to get a room anyway because it was the all-suite hotel closest to where we needed to be on the 2 days in NJ. Also we weren't sure just how dirty the rooms would be and decided to take the risk.
It was so much worse than we expected or could have imagined and is to-date the worst hotel stay we've experienced, especially for a 3-star hotel.
To begin, the place really does need to be updated. Everything is quite run down. This I can deal with if the price is fair and everything is at least clean. Neither was the case here. The place felt like a 2-star hotel, was dirty, and smelled pretty bad.
When we got to the front desk, no one was standing there and it took a couple of minutes for anyone to get there. Once the rep did get to the desk, she was pleasant, helpful and made sure we had information about the facilities, amenities, and services.
One elevator was down, which surprised me because others complained about that in their review. It's strange and disappointing that it seems this hotel has ongoing issues that remian unresolved for long periods of time or a frequently a problem.
The nightmare really began when we got to our room. As 1BR suites go, this is quite small. That's to be expected with some Residence Inn locations though - so no big deal. The room smelled TERRIBLE like it hadn't experienced actual cleaning beyond generql quick tidying in a year or more. The suite did not have many items it should have, which delayed our ability to do what we needed. This was quite annoying in an already tired state. We needed to call down and they had knives sent up. Also dishwashing liquid wasn't in the room, among other things that we just gave up on and never mentioned. Because I've read online that sometimes hotel workers don't clean the dishes in suites (instead just rinsing and wiping of the dirt), I always make it my duty to immediately load the diahwasher and get everything cleaned for safe use. The dishwasher smelled even more horrific than the room, like it hadn't had water in it for years. Also the drawers and cabinets where the dishes, utensils etc are stored were also quite dirty. The mats that the kitchen stuff were on were themselves dirty, with stains, smells and leftover food droppings. GROSS! That motivated me ti eash everything. I was suspicious of the dishwasher though, since it smelled so bad. After a few minutes of the washer running, I decided to open it and see what was really happening. And please note, all the regular dishwasher sounds were present. After opening it in the middle of the cycle, I realized there was NO water. Now we were just dismayed and even more tired. We called down and they sent up a maintenance guy right away. This made us cautious because, while the quick response is nice, it seemed they'd dealt with this before. The guy came in and, I kid you not, immediately went right for a button and turned on the water. What dishonesty!
The floors were dirty and looked like they hadn't been swept or vacuumed since at least the last stay. Everything smelled bad and all the furniture is uncomfortable - couch, bed, everything.
We're not picky, stay in hotels often for business travel, and have NEVER left a baf review. Don't stay here. We were just so tired and in a rush. Otherwise, we would have...
Read moreIf I could rate 0, I would. This is the first time I was deeply disappointed with my Residence Inn stay. We arrive there to stay in a 2 bedroom suite with a pullout for a wedding. We stayed at the Deptford, New Jersey location on 9/10. This location is right next to a run-down shopping center which aesthetically isn't ideal. The lobby area did not look very clean. Floors were dirty, hallway floors looked like they hadn't been vacuumed. We had no proof that the room wasn't cleaned. The only thing we noticed was that there was a used sponge at the kitchen sink, as well as used dish towels. That I do know most certainly. We called and asked for a new sponge. We were told that they were all locked, by housekeeping, this isn't a 24-hour location, and that one would be brought to us in the morning. Well, that means we could not wash our dishes. Needless to say, one never arrived. The other thing I will share about the room is that everytime the toilet was flushed, the most horrific odor or sewer smell would emanate from the toilet. One front desk person was very unhelpful. I called the front desk to ask where is the closest pizza hut as we would like to order a pizza for delivery, her response, oh I don't know. I understand that I can google it, but being that I am not from the area, it would have been helpful to have helpful front desk individuals. The next thing, we went to the so-called market to purchase bottles of water...they had none. Later that evening, when we went to pull out the sofa for sleeping, we realized that the sofa did not pull out. Now, we made this reservation months ago and confirmed that the room had what we needed. When we realized the sofa was not a pullout, we called the front desk for a cot. Not only did they not have any, but they were also sold out so we could not even move to another room. We had to cover the couch with blankets and one person had to sleep on the couch.
Fast forward to the morning...we went down to get grab-and-go items for breakfast. They had great selections; unfortunately, despite all of the cereal choices offered, we could not eat because they had no milk. Not only that, the market had no milk. No hot water for the oatmeal nor bottled water in the market...so no oatmeal nor cereal. We resorted to eating dry cereal and apple juice. They were not in the least prepared to accommodate a sold-out hotel. Again, this was my first time experiencing this from a Mariott. I will say, that this is my first time staying at a Residence Inn, since COVID. So perhaps all of the locations are run this way given the work and product shortages. At the very least, I would expect above-average cleaning measures which was not the case at all. I would encourage everyone to avoid staying at this location...
Read moreThe rooms were clean -- dated, but clean. Everything that we needed to work was working. However, towards the end of our stay, I wanted to be courteous and put our dirty dishes in the dishwasher. There was a stench that came out because of the stagnant water in the dishwasher -- it wasn't working. ||||Check-in was at 4 PM and our room wasn't ready until 7:09PM. Ouch. I even checked in online the day prior to our arrival to let them know that we're coming. Shouldn't the housekeeping staff be alerted to prioritize certain rooms especially if there was a prior notification on the kind of rooms reserved on that day? We were given keys to a room but the cleaning person is still cleaning it and had no clue that we're expected. Went back to the front desk and they told me that our room wasn't going to be ready for another hour. Nope -- make that 3 hours. |||| We're in the area for a wedding that started at 5:30 PM and the rest of our family stayed at the nearby Courtyard by Marriott. Their rooms were available by 2 PM, for a 3 PM check-in. I was fortunate enough that I could use their rooms to prepare for the wedding. ||||Somewhat saving grace in this facility was this nice elderly lady in the kitchen staff. She was very courteous and accommodating for our breakfast. Everything was well presented and the place was very clean and inviting. ||||The breakfast area listed the time opening at 7 AM on a Saturday. They weren't ready until 9 AM. Many of the guests were already complaining that we weren't notified ahead of time -- that breakfast availability would be late. ||||The food choices were decent. Good stuff: 3 different kinds of eggs (spinach quiche, scrambled, hard boiled) were offered and all were fresh. There were bagels and sliced wholewheat bread and there was a working toaster. Many of the pastries were in wrapped packaging, the kind you'd find in a gas station store/bodega, but they still looked good. Individual cereal cups along with single-serving milk bottles. Wrapped apple slices were the only options for fresh fruit. Their juice dispenser was also working -- apple, orange, cranberry and water. Coffee and hot water for tea and hot chocolate were available.||||Oh, we could hear highway noise. The windows are not soundproof and maybe the wall insulation/sound barrier does not exist. If you're sensitive to this stuff, then ask to be on the side not facing the highway. ||||Overall, this hotel "tried their best." We were told that they are understaffed, and this could be a reason why everything was delayed. It's a decent hotel if all you need is a clean place to rest and a decent breakfast in the morning. If timing is everything for you, this...
