Was with a small group of friends on a saturday evening at the depford mall. We had only been there about an hour chatting before starting to walk around a bit. Before we were even able to go into any stores we were stopped by an extremely loud and extremely rude mall cop. He loudly asked how many of us were 18+, (4 out of the 8 of us) then demanded to see their ID. We were vaguely informed of this rule that I later looked up and is stated as such on their website:
“Visitors under the age of 18 years are required to be accompanied by a parent or supervising adult age 21 or older on Friday and Saturday night after 5PM and must remain within the company of their parent or supervising adults. Proof of age may be required for the youth and/or supervising adult. Those who lack proper identification will not be granted entry and may be asked to leave the property.”
We were then directed to the closest exit and told to leave. Only two out of the group drove here, the rest of us were dropped off, some minors from as far as 40 minutes away. We were oh so graciously allowed to wait standing by the door and not in the 18° weather while we figured out what we were going to do. My friend mentioned that she was parked on the complete other side of the mall, and if we were going to split the group into two cars she had to bring half of us. She was told only she could go but could not bring her boyfriend or anyone else with her. One of the younger, less impolite security guards offered to escort her and let her bring her boyfriend. (so she, a petite young girl wouldn’t be walking through a crowded mall and dark parking lot alone at night.)
While driving on her way leaving the mall premises, my friend spotted a small group of boys (maybe around 15 yrs whom we’d seen in the mall a few minutes before) far past the parking lot walking across 4 lanes of traffic because they had been intruders to leave and had no ride.
If we hadn’t had a few drivers among us would we have had to have waited standing in one spot 45 minutes to inconvenience a parent who had dropped their child off? Or would we be asked to “leave the property” in the weather conditions had rides taken so long? Why are there no signs at the entrances letting a parent/the teens know? We were dropped off and never stopped until an hour through the night. Very disappointed in this incredulous rule, and if you are going to have such a foolish regulation why not keep it the entire week? Why the inconsistency of only half the weekend? What could have possibly ignited this rule, I had previously been coming to this mall my entire life. Most certainly will be going sparingly, if ever now. The rule itself is simply senseless, but if you are going to have one such as that, it should be completely clear to the people entering. The best way to find out about this most certainly not being halted by a security guard who is raising his voice...
Read moreGood Evening Google Family! It is now raining on a Sunday evening, July 9th, 2024, as I am writing this review of the Deptford Mall in Deptford, NJ. I have visited this mall, however I have never reviewed it. And this visit was, we are talking about a good twenty years ago. I was looking at the history of the Deptford Mall and it has been around since August 1975, is when it opened with three anchor stores, Sears, Bamberger's and Wanamakers. Its amazing that Bambergers and Wanamakers are no more. Bambergers became Macy's and Wanamakers became Hecht's. And now Hecht's no longer exists. I visited the Deptford Mall, since I was nearby yesterday at the Edge Fitness Club in Deptford, NJ. This is my second time at this location of the Edge. I decided to visit this location on a Saturday, because I wanted to shop and what better place to shop at, then the Deptford Mall. After I completed my cardio workout on the treadmill, I danced the entire time, I took my shower and headed to the mall. I didn't buy a shake at the Edge, instead I opted to purchase a drink at the Mall. By this time, I was crazy hungry and I could have EATEN A HORSE!!! When I was parking, I saw that there was an X Finity in the Shopping Center of the Mall. I was flabbergasted because this location never showed up on Google! Had I known this, I would have come here to pay my cable bill. I enjoy going to different places to pay my bills, the ones that I don't pay online. While walking around in the mall, I happened upon the Food Court and Voila! that was exactly what I was looking for. I glanced around at the many choices for food items and I decided on a smoothie, Cali's Shakes and for food, Sakura Japan. I decided on a Peanut Butter Banana smoothie, which was $7.45 and the chicken teriyaki was $9.59. I ate a little and I drank a little and then I was done. I took the rest of my food home and I shared it with Mom. My brother wasn't home at the time. Everything was good and I will definitely return again. Hopefully the next time I will find something to wear and I will purchase it. Lord knows I need some new clothes, I have not purchased any clothes or shoes all summer. Its called being THRIFTY!!! Good Night Google Family!!!! An update to this review: I visited the rest room on the first floor of the mall. They have a women's rest room, a men's rest room and a family rest room. I found the women's rest room to be very clean and neat, and they had paper towels, which was a monumental blessing. So many places you visit the rest room, all they have is those annoying, irritating, loud hand dryers!!!!! It was a true blessing to see paper towels, Yeah Deptford !!!! Thank you!!! Don't forget to work out, be healthy, fit...
Read moreThis is the best mall I have shopped out in a long time! Took me back in time to the the 80's days of malls being the go to, to buy whatever and hang out safely, comfortably out of the weather.
Old school anchored by Boscov's, Macy's, JC Penney Department Stores and Round 1 Bowling & Amusement. The only thing missing is good old Sears and a movie theater.
This is a 2 level mall with nearly full occupancy, not empty store after empty store. I didn't count or take note of how many stores, maybe on another visit. Between the the three anchor department stores and all the mall stores, IMO, you should be able to find whatever you want.
There is also the classic Food Court offering many choices and seating.
Several bathrooms available that are clean not gross. Three types; Men, Women, and family.
There is a clear and present security force to keep the shoppers safe to the best of their ability.
There is plenty of free parking in attached paved outside lot.
Parking lot, mall and bathrooms ADA compliant.
There is not one, but at least two, EV charging stations Tesla and another company.
If I was going to give 4 stars it would be the mad house traffic you may hit getting into and out of the several mall entrances depending on the time you want to shop. I am sure if you know the area well it is much easier to get in and out.
Attached photos are of upper level only did not have enough time on this visit to check out lower level and still gave this...
