I just returned from a Road Scholar “bridge camp” at the Gray Ghost Inn in West Dover, Vermont. It was so much fun! Edward Scanlon, our instructorwas a fabulous teacher. Without a doubt one of the best teachers of intermediate Bridge. He found a perfect balance between humor and being what he calls himself: a “drill sergeant”. Edward knows how to work a crowd. He kept reminding us all week to keep an open mind and be willing to learn new ideas and thoughts on playing this intriguing, ever-changing and challenging game of bridge. I listened, I learned and I can’t wait to go back again next year to the Gray Ghost Inn. I would definitely give Edward a gold medal for being a great teacher. |I would definitely encourage anyone to visit the Gray Ghost Inn. Cary and Eamon along with their two beautiful children are the consummate hosts. They are a delightful young couple who both go “above and beyond” to help you enjoy your visit. They made us feel as if we were welcome guests in their home. They are working on remodeling and making it a warm venue to enjoy. Whether you go for bridge or just to have a relaxing atmosphere to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life, you’ll be glad you did. I’m pretty certain winter skiers would enjoy the majesty of calmness there after a day on the slopes as well. |As a Bed and Breakfast , it’s a cozy, comfortable and enjoyable Inn. The poached eggs were perfectly done everyday. Thank you to a great chef! The staff all wear more than one hat and interchange as both housekeeping and wait staff, and they want you to enjoy your stay too. |Corina, the former owner of the Inn, is a support system for the Cary and Eamon. You can tell she has fallen in love with the Duane family. Corina has encouraged the new owners to continue her commitment to Road Scholar and is very much apart of this grand experience. If you can find a reason, anyway reason, to stay at the Gray Ghost Inn, do it! If it’s one of Edward Scanlon’s bridge camps it will be...
Read moreAn absolute charm of a place. I will 100% stay here again in the future. Couple of maintenance issues while we were there, but the inn keepers did their absolute best they could do with what they had. They kept us all informed and turned the night into an adventure that will turn into a story for many years to come. The place is within walking distance to some shops and a restaurant/bar, just be careful and wear high-viz outfit as there is no sidewalk. If you're here for skiing, TAKE THE MOOVER! It picks you up right outside (closer than the walk to your car in the parking lot) and drops you off right in the loop at Mt. Snow. Plus it's free! You really can't beat that. If you want to go into Wilmington for an evening and don't want to worry about having a DD....TAKE THE MOOVER! The buses are clean and you can go to their website to see exactly when it's coming and time it right s you walk outside a minute before it shows up. The wood burning fireplace is great! There are puzzles and games for you to play and plenty of space to play the games in. They've got a refrigerator there to keep beverages and/or leftovers in. An ice machine and plenty of different glassware, only thing you need to provide is what you want to put into the glass. The only complaint I have is the shower was tiny.....and I mean tiny. So tiny you can't lean over or bend down or you'll hit your head on the walls/soap dispensers. If you drop something, you have to open the shower curtain and step out to retrieve it. Good luck shaving your legs if that's what you need to do. Even with this, i'd give it 5 stars and still come back. Parts of the place were a little dated, but I also know the innkeepers are new there and they're working on updates. Can't wait to go back! p.s. Breakfast is great! pancakes or french toast, and then eggs/potatoes/bread/bacon/sausage combo. Whatever you want....
Read moreMotorcycle and dog friendly, with breakfast included if there is a large group at the inn. If not, you're on your own. No breakfast, coffee, or room freshening. We didn't see staff for almost 3 days between large groups of guests. The 2nd group mostly didn't wear masks inside when not eating and did little to social distance (some of whom were wearing Sturgis 2020 shirts).
The owner had little empathy about the lack in service (she was out of town with family business and the family member left in charge wasn't in the facility much of the time). As customers we felt abandoned with no prior explanation from the inn keepers about the lack of services. "We give out a gift certificate for breakfast when we don't have enough guests." Which we didn't receive until after the fact. This consisted of $5 per day at the local bakery when the local diner breakfast was over $10.
The game room has a pool table, air hockey, ping pong table, Foosball, and 2 arcade games for $0.50 per game. All are run down with tears in the felt and only one usable pool cue. The air hockey game had a worn surface, and the ping pong table was sticky from drink spills.
This inn has a great porch out front and deck with tables in the back. There is a pool, jacuzzi (which was closed), and fire pit in the back. The other guests we very friendly. The staff was also friendly and...
