UPDATE: I have updated my rating from 1 to 5 stars because I am impressed with the response I got and the effort that was made in order to correct my grievances. Brenda, the manager, is a gem in customer service and went out of her way to reach out to me to offer her sincerest apology. She also provided me with a free night's stay for the inconvenience. I canceled the remaining nights I had set up at the other hotel location I'd reserved and accepted the offer because this was my original choice and it means a great deal to me when a company is willing to make things right.
When I arrived to accept my reservation for the rest of my stay through the week the concierge rep at the front desk was extremely helpful and also went out of his way to assist me. He confirmed the type of room I wanted, and also made sure that it was cleaned and ready for me to use. Thank you for making such an effort to make things right! I will continue to use this location whenever stopping for business in Durant. The updated rating on this post was well earned.
Original post below:
I arrived in Durant last night at around 11:20 PM. I stopped here in order to book a room, for what would have been a week long stay, from Sunday night to the following Saturday morning. Admittedly, I should have booked the room online prior to arriving but there were some variables that prevented me from doing so.
When I walked in to the lobby, I asked the concierge rep if there were any vacancies available., under the assumption that there were given that the parking lot was sparse. As soon as I asked, her immediate response was, "No, we do not." No additional information was provided, and she didn't even stand up from the seat she was sitting in to greet me. I didn't ask questions, despite feeling like maybe she didn't want me there, or didn't feel like checking me in. I went back to my car and had my boyfriend look online to see if there were any rooms available online that could be booked. There were, from several different sites, as well as their own. I even had options, single queen bed, double bed, etc. I thought about booking for my entire stay online and coming back in and letting her know I'd just done the reservation online, but realized I don't want to stay here with this kind of service.
I would have easily spent a pretty penny to stay for a week since I'd booked a room here and enjoyed my stay in the past. Suffice to say though, I will not be returning to...
Read moreRacially Charged and Discriminatory Experience at Best Western Markita Inn, Durant
My friend had an extremely disheartening and racially charged experience at Best Western Markita Inn in Durant. From the moment he arrived, despite being overly polite, he was met with suspicion and curt behavior from the staff, which escalated into outright discrimination. It was clear that what boiled down to the color of his skin played a major role in how he was treated.
The issue began when he provided his ID, and the staff immediately informed him he could not stay due to having a local Durant address on his license. This was supposedly part of an owner’s policy aimed at preventing locals from staying because of concerns related to drugs. This explanation felt like a baseless assumption, and when he asked whether this policy was posted anywhere publicly, he was met with dismissiveness.
Brenda, the staff member who initially dealt with him, accused him of being argumentative, which couldn’t have been further from the truth—he remained calm and respectful the entire time. Then Stephanie, the GM, backed up Brenda’s accusations and went even further by accusing him of fraud simply because I paid for the room while he was staying there. The entire situation reeked of discrimination and unjust treatment.
What’s even more troubling is that the policy wasn’t clearly posted or explained beforehand, yet it was applied selectively and unfairly in this case. It felt like an excuse to deny service based on race, and the interaction left both of us extremely frustrated and upset.
I strongly urge Best Western corporate to step in and review how their policies are being enforced and ensure that this type of racially charged treatment is addressed immediately. No one should be subjected to this kind of...
Read moreWhere do I start. The room was nothing to brag about. Old, light could be seen through a closed, locked door with marks showing it had been broken into. Cigarette butts on ground in front of rooms, people standing outside their doors so we enjoyed their smoke in our faces and rooms.
This stay was for a wedding so there were a few of us here. When another family member went to his room after checking in we opened the door to a pot smoke cloud. It was so intense you couldn't even stay in the room. They informed him there was nothing they could do about it. I went to the office to see if they could at least spray the room and before I even finished my sentence one of the employees informed me that they didn't make the reservation and it was on us. Let's just say the rest of that conversation went badly and as I haven't been talked to that badly by an employee in a long time. As a business owner I would have fired her on the spot if I had seen what transpired. Now in the end someone did take care of the situation but this particular employee took her attitude...
