This is my first night at this Holiday Inn Express. Alberto checked me in. His smile shone right through his mask. The room was clean and organized. My room has two Queen beds, a chaise lounger, desk, closet, safe, refrigerator, microwave and a Keurig coffee maker, ironing board and an Iron. First thing I did was to make sure the A/C could be set to 65° for perfect sleeping temperature. Update: I spent three nights at this hotel. My first breakfast experience was horrible. I can understand this is due to Covid-19. But, the food should be edible. The so called "Cheese Omelet" was cold and the cheese looks rubbery. The sausage was hard like cardboard. Coffee was bearable, but you are only giving a small cup. I asked for two and was only able to drink one and a half before it got cold. I want to make sure you know I didn't eat this "Cheese Omelet" meal. I also didn't use the kiosk to tell them how I liked the food. It was my first breakfast and I didn't want to take any chances of any kind of negative Karma. This hotel was as clean as possible even though they didn't do daily cleaning of the elevators. You could tell by the elevator floor that they sprayed it down with something. Probably to sanitize it. They didn't record it on their daily log. The second and third night the people above me let their rug rat run up and down the room until way past 10pm. In the morning the whole family was stomping around early in the morning. During heck out there was a rug rat running around the hotel lobby. Probably the same one. Like I said no negative Karma. I only let housekeeping in my room after the second night. I can pretty much keep the room clean when I travel alone. They did have a coffee maker, microwave and refrigerator in the rooms. The best thing was that I was able to set the A/C to 65 degrees while I slept. That is a major requirement for me. It was higher priced then other hotels in the area. I will most like stay at this same location due to my regular travel to Edinburg, unless I find a better place.

Check in was smooth and friendly. I have never had such a poor experience at any IHG hotel since I started using them since 2012. Firstly the shower head was green with calcium deposits. At 6:30 am I went down to exchange the broken hair dryer for another and get fresh coffee, there was no fresh coffee nor was there any half and half anywhere as the attendant was told by the back of house staff. I was ok with that but when I tried the coffee it had a foul odor so I went across the street to purchase coffee from a coffee shop. Later after returning to get breakfast I saw that they refilled the half and half creamers so I was not happy about that. I found no fruit being served and so my wife and I went out for breakfast after check out, we paid for breakfast too. I never experienced this at any other IHG hotel so I approached Ashley at the front desk and explained what was going on and she basically called me a liar because “they always have fresh coffee”. She was confrontational so I just shut up and went back to my room to get ready to check out. I returned with my key card and handed it to her and said thank you. My wife was unaware of the interaction I had with her earlier but told me “ that girl made an ugly face at you when you turned away from her”. I will never return to this location even though it is closer to my parent’s house. I go so often that I am returning to the area just 5 days later but will be going back to the McAllen medical center location where I have always been treated with first class service. We have even had a baby shower at that location which should show how much we love that location and their staff. The importance of fresh coffee sounds silly but it’s not to me as I usually travel with a portable travel coffeemaker with a special carrying case. I stopped taking it with me when I go to IHG hotels because they have proven to be good at providing that amenity well enough for me. This location fell short of IHG standards in my opinion.

This was a great hotel, however it kinda sucks that the workout room closed at 11. Also we booked with a wedding package deal and didn't recieve our gift bag. The service is decen the Breakfast is pretty much a let down. Still a nice place, feels safe. I like that the elevators operate in their own circuits so the wait time can be less. Also, unlike every hotel I've ever been too, in different cities and states, they don't require a credit card to hold the reservation. They only asked if it would be a visa or Mastercard that I pay with. I found it weird, but also very enjoyable. It just kinda had me worried that my reservation wasn't secure, but in the end it was.

This was truly the most miserable stay at a hotel we’ve ever had (we are IHG Rewards members and Holiday Inn regulars). So many five star reviews surprises me... the hotel itself is new and clean, but the experience was AWFUL. First of all, note that if you book a “suite” you are getting one big room with a little tiny 1/8 wall that separates the bed from the living area. If you’re traveling with kids (which we were), this equates to disaster. We specifically asked if these suites were two separate rooms (some Holiday Inn Expresses are, some are not) and were told they were at booking. I guess their definition of suite is different. As for the rooms, they are SPARTAN. There’s no closet, no curtains, no lamps, no clock, limited (and weird) lighting, two towels, no extra blankets or bedsheets for the pullout couch (which are usually found in a closet). I went down to the front desk to request these items. The woman at the desk literally gave me a stack of WET TOWELS. I asked, “Are these a little damp?” She said, “Yeah, they’re a little wet, but they are clean!” The bedding she provided turned out to be a single flat sheet and a thin, scratchy blanket. No mattress pad (gross), no top sheet, no comforter. She was kind enough to bring them up to the third floor herself, though, so I appreciated that. But the bedding was unacceptable. They should be providing pre-packed complete bedding sets in a zippered plastic pouch— that way the college student on duty doesn’t have to think too hard and give half of what is needed. (I did ask about what we received and she said, “yeah, it’s always like that.”)

The worst part of the stay was the NOISE. A new hotel should have good sound mitigation, but we heard running, bumping, and jumping THE.WHOLE.NIGHT. It was MISERABLE. No one could sleep, the beds were uncomfortable, the room temperature was cool but insanely humid (how does that happen?!), and there was no fan in the bathroom to relieve humidity from showering.

Bottom line, guys, I’d go somewhere else. There are other new, well-rated hotels in town that we could’ve picked from, and we chose this one. Big mistake. Try another one. Don’t risk it. Our whole next day was ruined from lack of rest and that’s just not what you need, whether you’re on vacation or business....

The staff was exceptional with their personalities and willingness to cater to our needs- though you could tell that their willingness to do so lack as a result of training.

The front desk clerk was an amazing girl who worked very hard, but when large groups sharing a room, or more than one person in line, she was overwhelmed- I do not think that it was as result of her at all. I feel as though there was not management presence to her assist her in these waves.

It was obvious that the correct employees were hired, but that they did not have the support or direction that they needed. It was apparent that they all were working as hard and as best as though could.

The location was nice, the amenities were great.

In addition, we had paid the extra fees to receive the additional 5000 bonus points per night to our account which we did NOT receive.

We were very disappointed about the lack of acknowledgement displayed for our ongoing IHG member status. I am guessing this too, was a result of training or follow up. I understand that training is difficult- but management follow up and positive reinforcement and aid- with eyes everywhere is essential in the hospitality industry.

Other than that mentioned, the location was great. The overall was a good experience, and the amenities were substantial with the exception of the lack of a bar or restaurant (typical and to be expected in the HI Express locations)- which we knew of prior.

I am sure the manager is wonderful and is in the position that they are in- but I would question his back-up and support- he cannot be at all locations- training each individual.

We are always impressed overall with our experiences and the rooms are always consistent, the locations convenient and clean, and many locations are updated with reasonable prices. We choose to come back as a result. I am just expressing these "concerns" not "complaints" as it is hard to come by hard and devoted workers and minimize turnover- and I fear that the lack of support the staff has will eventually...
