Beauty Rest Hotel — Hotel in Edison

After our 6 hour drive we arrived at 11:30pm checked in (3 rooms) and found two of the rooms had ants crawling all over the walls and into the bathrooms, ice trays were filthy. Went to the desk and advised the front desk staff of the dirty ice trays and ants. I was handed a clear trash bag as a resolution for my dirty ice bin. I escorted the staff to the rooms and they responded with “oh there must be food in the rooms” I responded if the rooms were cleaned why would there be food in them. I asked if there were additional rooms we could switch to and was told no at first. I was then informed if I could wait they would clean two other rooms, one being the managers suite. After waiting some time we were moved and advised that not only that we would be refunded but also we would be given new rooms in the morning. The managers suite had an air conditioner that barely worked. At this point it was almost 3am by the time we settled in and went to sleep. The next morning we were moved again and were told we would be refunded for the two rooms. Later that night we returned to find one of the rooms air conditioners stopped working and had to wait again for that room to be moved. When we checked out and asked how the refund would be handled we were told to speak with the manager who was not on the property. I phoned the next day and was told there would be no refund as we stayed for those nights. After a brief conversation regarding the disturbing events and that we did not receive the services as depicted on their website. The manager basically told me that although we had these events transpire he wasn’t willing to do anything as people do this all the time to him. I explained we showed you the ants, you personally responded to both air conditioner issues and you were the one that said you would refund us!! I even tried to be reasonable with him and explained to him that of the three rooms we rented one room was not an issue and I am not asking to be refunded for that room, of the two rooms that had these concerns I would be willing to accept a one night refund per room vs a full refund as the first night we didn’t even get settled until 3am and the second night we returned to a broken air conditioner. He rudely replied “you stayed, when you could have left, so I am not refunded you anything” it was then that I decided to write an email to the motel to which I received a single reply of “I will look into this” I never heard back and waited several weeks before writing this review as I was hoping to be able to write that the hotel properly responded and reacted to our situation. We later find out this hotel rents rooms by the hour and offer extended stays, which could be a good indication of why these rooms are not cleaned properly prior to guests arrivals. I would not stay here if you are looking for a peaceful nights sleep. FYI there were no other hotel/motel options in the area due to the vast events going on in the area that weekend, otherwise we would have happily exited this hotel as their website depicts a much different experience from the one...

Motel easy to get to off of Rte 1. I like the parking area to register at the office. Would be really good for rain. Office staff was friendly, helpful, explaining to me the difference in the online price vs visiting price. The room was easy to get to. I felt really comfortable being able to see my car in front of the window. I liked the size of the room. The bed was comfortable, the right size for me. The towels smelled good, not smoky or burnt like being left in dryer for too long. The bathroom was clean, no complaints. Loved the flatscreen tv and the all in one dresser which also had electronics to hook up a dvd/music. Never seen that before,,, I like it. It was quiet, no disturbances. I had a very good nights sleep. The cleaning staff is friendly, smiling and speaking.. I liked that. The heating was good in the room, I liked the remote for the system.||As far as making this excellent,, a few things would need to be done. First, a microwave/fridge and coffee maker would be excellent perks to add to the room. Maybe because there is a Dunkin Donuts about 500ft away is the reason, not sure. Around the baseboards, there was accumulation of dust as well as around the dressers and other furniture. Cleaning those would make the carpet look excellent. On the ceiling, there were spider webs and a small spider in the corner by the door. I am not the squeamish type so it didn't affect me, but it would others. I feel a brighter light could be added to the sink area. Kinda difficult to shave. I think maybe the wrong wattage bulb was used. But overall, I liked the room and the facility. I would stay again...

So many things are wrong with this motel. The rooms have no tables to work on, no iron or ironing board, no refrigerator, no coffee maker and no microwave. The chair provided in my room was so dirty with a hole in it. I had to spread a cloth on the chair before sitting on it. The floor, made of wooden board felt sticky especially if you walk on it with bare feet. They barely furnished the rooms with towels and toiletries and the bath towels were more like hand towels. The front office exuded a very offensive odor that they tried to mask with a heavy deodorant that could almost make you puke.||In summary, it is a bad place to stay.
