I have drive past the Skylark many times heading home from work. Always told myself that I had to try them one day. Well, that day came. I stepped in and looked around. For a diner, this place was huge. Beautiful looking interior, clocks with the times of different countries around the world. Was seated at a booth. If you are 5'9 or taller, DON'T DO IT!! It is a drop without leg room underneath the table.
So I ordered breakfast and saw something on the menu that I always told myself I would try, (Disco Fries). So I ordered two eggs scrambled, a double order of crispy bacon, home fries no toast and Disco Fries. I order coffee and a large glass of orange juice. I received my coffee and orange juice first. My God!! They is nothing better than freshly squeezed orange juice, sweet with no bitter after taste.
I thought this was a prelude to my meal. When my meal came out, nice size platter places. The food looked absolutely delicious except there was a problem. I ordered a double order of crispy bacon, not one piece of bacon on my plate was crispy. I informed the waitress that I had asked for crispy bacon. Her reply was we can't control if the bacon is going to be crispy or not because the cook makes it on a sheet with a bunch of other bacons that was ordered so you can't always get crispy bacon. Okay that's the first time I've ever heard anything like that so I can't get food to order just what you have available.
That was disappointing, and never brought me my Disco Fries. That was also disappointing not only did they not bring the Disco Fries out she never put the order in because I looked for it on my receipt. I am a lover of crispy bacon cannot stand when it's not. I will not be returning to this establishment, I'm almost sorry that I did to start off with. But the only way to know is to try. Maybe somebody else will have a better review to give for this place, but for me not being able to order something as simple as bacon to order, what's...
Read moreElevated diner- expect elevated prices. I visited the Skylark Diner on Tuesday 4/29 with my dad and my brother and we were happy with our experience, but ultimately were left almost flabbergasted by the prices. The diner is located right on Route 1 in Edison, NJ, and has a tight parking lot that tends to get rather crowded and can be tough to find a spot as we noticed driving by later that night. We visited in the morning around 9 AM and received the breakfast menu. Typical diner offerings from omelets to pancakes, to waffles. The one thing that stands out is the diner's attention to ingredients, only using cage-free eggs that add a nice touch of "elevation" to this "elevated" diner experience. The service was quick, our server got our orders after no more than 4 minutes of being in the establishment. I ordered the Western Omelette, which was good, but not mind-blowing. I thought the "Artisan Toast" seemed to be a gimmick and didn't taste any different or better than anything else. My brother ordered the Bacon, Egg, and Cheese Croissant, and my father the "Little Bit of Everything" with eggs, bacon, and sausage. Both were good, but seemed to be expensive for pretty much run-of-the-mill diner food. The environemet of the diner is very cool, with the diner designed to look like the Googie style diners of the 1950s. Keep an eye out for the clocks that show the time in major cities across the world, including Moscow, and London. If you're looking to save a few bucks, you can save 3% on your order by paying cash. If you're over 21 you can even grab an alcholic beverage from the diner's bar. The diner does advertise that it has bottle service for those interested. Overall though, it felt to be a too expensive, with our order coming it $56 dollars for breakfast. Despite this it is still a fun place, very clean, and nice, fast service make it worth a visit if you're willing to spend a little extra on fancier ingredients and enjoy...
Read moreI visited the Skylark Diner in Edison, New Jersey on Wednesday, November 20th and had a very pleasant dining experience. The diner, located along a vibrant retail corridor of Route 1, is easily accessible by car. Also, Edison residents in the neighborhood adjacent to the restaurant are within walking distance. Built on site in 2006, the Skylark features lofted ceilings, large windows, and a googie design aesthetic that evokes 1950s retro-futurism. The most notable decorative elements included throwback murals, red and blue checkered tiling, and art-deco sign typography. I also appreciated the presence of wall clocks featuring multiple time zones, providing functionality while further contributing to the diner’s futuristic and optimistic flair. The premises were clean and well-kept, and we were seated promptly upon our arrival. We dined at noon during the diner’s lunch rush, with around 40 patrons in attendance. Despite a heightened relative customer load, our waitress, Christina, was great. She was polite, and her service was prompt, bringing out our food within fifteen minutes of ordering. I ordered the corned beef hash, which came with a side of two eggs cooked to my liking, as well as hash browns. I found the meal to be delicious; the corned beef was flavorful, melting in my mouth, and the scrambled eggs were fluffy. This dish totaled $15.99, which is not the most affordable, but it was well worth it for its quality, combined with the elevated dining experience. The Skylark’s menu was eclectic and impressive, propelling me to return. I look forward to trying their lunch and dinner options soon. For those who consume alcohol, the Skylark also features a bar, adding to its charm and allure. In summary, the Skylark is a high-class diner that provides an unparalleled dining experience. I have no hesitation recommending the Skylark to anyone in the...
