If you’re one of those people that reads the reviews, this is one you want to pay attention to. My family booked multiple rooms for 2 days and 2 nights for an event. Knowing that the Red Roof “Plus” isn’t the Ritz Carlton, expectations were basic. “Basic” meaning clean rooms(clean towels, clean sheets, clean bathroom, decent staff). The front desk staff all seem like they would rather be doing anything other than providing customer service. Check in wasn’t a welcoming experience in the least. After making our way through that, we get up to our rooms and see that we should have made better choices in lodging. My room in particular, was the worst out of the 5 rooms we occupied. The floors are hardwood, but they haven’t seen a broom, soap, nor water in quite some time… There was bits of paper, strands of hair, dirt, etc. all over the floors. From the front door, all the way through. Bathroom included. The carpet on either side of the bed was gross. I guarantee that carpet was a different color at one point in time when it was clean. The walls had scuff marks all over them like it was a bumper car ring. The floorboards are warped, so the room was flooded at some point or another. It smelled stale and like weed and cigarette smoke. The bed sheets were dingy. They were also put on wrong. The fitted sheet was inside out. The flat sheet and blanket was also upside down. There wasn’t a complete set of towels; and the ones that were there had hair, and stains all over them. The vents have rust all around them and look like they haven’t been touched to be cleaned ever. The TV remote was sticky. The a/c unit has never been cleaned or serviced. So we went back to the desk to make the staff aware of the condition of the room. She said that she would go up and take a look after she finished checking in the people that walked in the door as I was relaying my issues. She never went. Instead, she went out for a cigarette break. We left and carried on about our day, no one ever went to the room. I made my way back to the desk where there was someone different working. His attitude was even worst than the person at check in. I’m telling him about my room and he’s looking at me like “so what”. There was a security guard sitting there and she was the nicest person that I encountered. She stepped in and offered to go grab me towels for my room. Well she hands me towels and those are hairy, stained, and smell like sulfur. I ended up having to find a Walmart and go purchase towels, blankets to sleep on and under, and cleaning stuff so I could make my room seem less like I was sleeping in a parking lot. This strong stench of smoke came through both nights, leaving the room and all of our belongings smelling like a bingo hall. The next morning I stop at the desk on my way out and the same person from check in is working. I relay everything to her again as she stares at me like I didn’t just tell here these things the day before. She tells me that housekeeping will make sure my room is right. I run back to my room to grab something to discover that housekeeping is in the room a couple doors down from mine, and the person working has her son with her playing with toys cleaning rooms… Strange. Later that day, I return back to my room. Housekeeping had made their way through. I intentionally unfolded and piled up the dirty towels I had just to see if they would come to the room. The towels that had been “replenished” were in fact the SAME EXACT TOWELS as before. They literally picked these dirty towels off the dirty floor, folded them and put them back as if they were new. Completely gross. There was no manager available at any time. The absence of leadership reflects beyond being unavailable to address customer concerns. It shows in the selection of staff and training they receive. It shows in the appearance of the establishment. More importantly, it’s a reflection of the brand. So with money lost, and a subpar lodging experience gained, that sums up my stay at Red Roof Plus. I’d like...
Read moreI was on a road trip with some friends, passing through El Paso and just looking for a cheap, clean place to crash for the night. We decided to "name [our] own price" on Priceline and got the Red Roof Inn El Paso East. Two rooms for pretty cheap.
First, some facts about the place: it's conveniently located right off I-10, close to a shopping center with a Krispy Kreme. It's also located right next to a "gentleman's club"-- make of that what you will. The building has three floors, which are all basically the same floor plan. (One review had said the rooms were bigger on the third floor; they're not.) There is no breakfast, but there is a coffee bar with sugar, sugar substitutes, and powdered creamers. There's a small safe in each room, which they'll charge you $1.50/day to use, but you can ask at the end of your stay for them to remove it from your bill if you didn't use it. When they say "double beds" they mean full size, not queen size. The bathroom comes with two bars of soap, a small tube of "conditioning shampoo," a travel-size pack of tissues, two bath towels, and the only trash can in the whole room.
Next, the positives from my stay: the guy at the front desk was courteous and accommodating. We did a very thorough inspection of the beds in both rooms and found no bed bugs. The air conditioning was working very well and we could adjust the temperature to our preference. The bathroom seemed clean. The elevator got us up and down. Our rooms didn't smell like smoke. There were lots of outlets for us to charge our devices.
Finally the negatives: we found stains on the sheets of one of the beds. Maybe they just couldn't come out with the wash. But worse, we found hair and what we concluded were boogers on another set of sheets. We were so exhausted though that we didn't ask the front desk to change the sheets and just slept on the other side. Also, the shower curtain was just the fabric layer (imagine a bed sheet hanging from a rod) that barely overlapped with the rim of the tub, so the bathroom was wet after everyone showered.
In conclusion: my only requirement was to have a clean place to sleep at night, and changing sheets are the most basic expectation of the cheapest hotel. I can get over old and dated facilities, rough towels, not providing shampoo/conditioner, etc., but please...
Read moreIn mid-October of 2024, Our experience with RUDE ROOF INN, the name needs to change to reflect the truth. If I could give this place a 0 Star, I would, based on the VERY RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL behavior of the Female person operating the front desk! We drove all night (12 hours) to get here to see my father, who was in the local hospital in critical condition. We went here first, as they seemed to be the most reasonably priced for the area and we were uncertain how long we would need to stay. When we got there, nobody was at the front desk. A very nice cleaning lady finally walked by and was kind enough to tell us the lady who operates the front desk had gone to the bank and would be back in 15 minutes. Well, 25 minutes later, a very sour-looking woman strolled in and made sure not to make eye contact with us. She went behind the counter and then hid in the back. We had to go up to the desk and call out to get her attention, even though she knew we were there the moment she walked in. She finally strolled out and "arrogantly" said check-in is at 2:00 pm and she would assist us then. We then let her know we did not have a reservation and just had questions about our potential stay here. She reiterated that check-in is at 2:00 pm and she would assist us then. We informed her that she was being very unprofessional and that was no way to treat potential customers. We then told her we would reach out to her Corporate office to advise them of her behavior and she very snidely smiled at us and waved goodbye. Needless to say, we immediately left. We ended up at a hotel that was closer to the hospital and the people at the front desk were cordial and very kind to us. They offered us a price that was cheaper than the "Rude Roof Inn" and on a day-by-day basis due to our circumstances. They also took care of all our relatives that followed, offering them the same low rates and kindness. We were there for almost 2 weeks, so they lost a lot of business because of her. In hindsight, that very rude lady did us a favor! After looking at their reviews online, looks like we dodged a bullet! So remember, check the...
