*edit I have to edit my review….. I will give credit where credit is due. Shane (the GM) called me and talked to me about what happened. We actually stayed at the hotel again last week. While we were in the bar area Gina did come up to us and talk with us. I appreciate that both of them could have the hard conversations with us. They both apologized and Gina took some of the responsibility for what happened that night. I do think there are some communication issues, but every company has some sort of communication issues. Again thank you for being able to have hard conversations!
We have always enjoyed the hotel, staff and service that we have received at this location. One staff member that has always stood out to us is Rachel (bar tender). She is always extremely nice, patient and helpful.
However we stayed the night of April 27th and were very disappointed by the service that we received (not from Rachel). We were in the bar area around 9:40pm waiting to be waited on. The bar area was extremely busy with only Rachel behind the bar for most of the night. Gina walked by and I asked her if we could put a food order in before the kitchen closed, she looked at her watch and told me we had time as the kitchen closed at 10, so we waited for Rachel to get a free second (the time now was almost 9:55). We ordered wings, chips and Brussel sprouts. A while later the wings came out but we never received the other two items. A little after 10 I asked Rachel about the other food items, she went to check on it. She came back and let Gina (the manager) know we never got some of our food and the kitchen staff had left. Rachel then came back to us and told us Gina told her to tell us to make a complaint, Gina never came over to address the issue with us.
From a Customer’s perspective this is what I saw- Rachel was running the bar mostly by herself. Gina came over a picked who she wanted to help serve, for example a group of three girls walked in and Gina went to them and served them before others who had been waiting a while. Gina left the bar area after serving the group and only came back for a few seconds at a time. Rachel apologized over and over about how we were treated.
Rachel is an amazing bartender. I think she was put in a tough situation, as she was the only bartender on a very busy day in Elkins (D&E had softball and Woman’s Lacrosse games, and the Ramp Festival was going on). That night Rachel received very little help from other staff or management!
Rachel keep being the amazing kindhearted person you are! YOU provide great...
Read moreI generally don't post unfavorable reviews, unless the experience is truly awful. However, maybe my expectations were a bit high for a "boutique" hotel (I am a Choice member, so I don't think they were too high), but our experience at the Tygart Hotel was mediocre, primarily for the following reasons:
The "suite" was disappointing as it was really just an elongated room. There was no satisfying sitting area for 2, just an uncomfortable chaise lounge positioned with a view to the bathroom and entry doors. This could easily be solved with 2 comfortable chairs and a coffee table positioned with an outdoor view.
The pendent light on the right side of the bed was not functioning (a big bummer as both my partner and I both like to read in bed before going to sleep). Initially, it looked like it just needed a light bulb. There was some confusion in the communication from the staff saying it needed rewiring, and after not getting back to me after my third request, I pointed out to them that while the porcelain base was in place it was missing the metal socket, and then they said they needed to order the light fixture which has a 6 to 8-week lead time. The response was sort of, "oh yeah, we knew about that, tough luck for you". How about offering a table lamp from an unoccupied room?
The mattress is cheap and WAY to soft. My back still has just barely recovered 5 days later. While furnishings from West Elm may have been cost-conscious decision, maintenance is going to be an ongoing problem (see my next comment below).
On day 2, the two screws on the top hinge of the cabinet door on the refrigerator side came out. Due to the lackluster response about the light, I got a screwdriver from my car to put them back in myself and informed the front desk that maintenance would most likely have to install thicker screws.
One complaint about the continental breakfast. The fruit offering consisted of a small plate with small pieces of (canned?) cantaloup, honeydew and pineapple (with the addition of leftover blueberries and strawberries the day after Thanksgiving). Even, just bananas and apples would have made a huge difference.
While the downtown location was nice for walking around, I don't think I would stay at the Tygart...
Read moreHad the pleasure to stay here for 3 nights while working in Elkins. I was here with 24 other people. Their reviews I am sure are just as good as mine. We were greeted warmly by the GM and staff when we arrived. The hotel is in the middle of downtown. Downtown is in the middle of a turn-a-around. Give it time and this hotel will be in the heart of it all. Your first glance is a well remodeled early 1900's building (if the walls could talk). Second, you are greeted by a great mix of old and new. All of the staff were excellent. My room was very nice and clean. The bed was comfortable (laid right in the middle of soft and firm) and offered a solid night of sleep. Two different types of pillows added to the great nights of sleep. The WIFI was fast and easy to connect to. There was plenty of hot water in my full glass walk-in shower. The coffee (k-cups) in the room was also a name you would recognize, and they were good. I drank them all! The towels were fluffy and very clean. Breakfast each morning was more than plentiful. A wide offering of locally baked items (mmmm.. donuts), fresh fruit, and a rotating selection of hot items made each breakfast a surprise. A dedicated employee kept the selections full and hot (or cold). Saturday night there was live music in the lobby bar. It was very nice to sit and enjoy. There are other national chain hotels in Elkins too. I guarantee your stay here will be better. If you have a concern let them know. It is a new hotel and they are still learning and growing. Spend your money on a local business, and I truly believe you won't be disappointed. Overall, myself and the rest of my group were very pleased with our stay. In all honesty, as someone who travels every week for work. This is now one of my top three hotels. I can not wait to come back and stay. Even if it is just...
