Tranquil B&B with Terrific Hosts! My friend and I had a delightful stay at the Ellijay River House over the 4th of July weekend. From the moment we walked in the door, Keith and Karen made us feel totally welcome in their beautiful old home with gorgeous, glossy hardwood floors and perfectly appointed decorations that create a light, open, tranquil feeling throughout the home.
Our room (the Magnolia Room) was clean and spacious and had the bonuses of 2 mirrors (1 full-length!) and a walk-in closet that was large enough to use as a separate dressing room. We were also pleased to find luxurious bathrobes hanging in our room, which were handy when slipping out to our immaculate, private hall bathroom with plenty of counter and shelf space for all our toiletries.
While the inside of this home was restful and relaxing, we actually spent most of our time outside… savoring delicious breakfasts on the wide wrap-around porch, reclining in the sitting area overlooking the river on the couch that was long enough for both of us to stretch out on, or sitting on the deck down by the river, being lulled by the quiet waters of the Ellijay. It was great having so many wonderful outdoor seating areas to choose from!
We also appreciated how close the house was to the little downtown area. With just a 5-minute walk we enjoyed great shopping and could easily pick up meals from the holiday-crowded restaurants to take back and enjoy in one of the B&B’s peaceful outdoor settings.
But it is Keith and Karen’s graciousness as hosts and their attention to detail that really set this accommodation apart. Every morning, Keith delivered a healthy, hearty homemade breakfast to our table on the veranda… a table that Karen had carefully set with lovely place settings and fresh flowers. Every evening, as we were sitting outside, Keith would come by and light candles and lanterns to enhance the ambience. Throughout the day, Karen gave us great suggestions in response to our inquiries about places to shop and dine. On the 4th of July, Ellijay has a small parade and fireworks which can be enjoyed from the convenience and comfort of their front porch. Although Keith and Karen had invited a few family and friends over, they also invited all their guests to join them for the festivities and sangria and appetizers as well. It was this sort of “above and beyond” welcome that made us feel like we were leaving new friends when it was time to say “Good-bye” and that ensures we will return...

Conveniently situated right in downtown Ellijay, you are walking distance to restaurants and shopping in the town. There is ample street parking for your car in front of the Bed and Breakfast. Upon our arrival we were very immediately greeted by Karen the owner of the Bed and Breakfast. There were 2 other guests that had arrived at the same time we did and we all went on a tour of the house. It is such a beautiful and comfortable home. We stayed in the Magnolia room which is on the second floor. You will need to walk up a flight of stairs to get to it. It is a spacious room with a large walk in closet. Lots of windows and a nice fireplace. There is a large dresser and extra chairs for seating too. The bed was extremely comfortable. The bathroom is located down the hall and it was our own private bathroom that we had a separate key for, so that we could lock it when it was not being used. The bathroom is beautiful, with a large walk in shower and ample room to store all of your toiletries. There were 2 other guest rooms on our floor. One has an in room bathroom and the other was like ours, with a separate bathroom. There is a small coffee/tea bar and a small refrigerator that is constantly stocked with water as well. There is a very comfortable sitting area at the end of the hall where one can sit, read and relax with a beautiful view of the river right outside the window. Downstairs is another guest room, a tv room, a sitting room and the dining room. Each afternoon/evening there was a wonderful cake waiting for us that was freshly baked by Keith the other owner and Karen's husband. The cakes we had were both really, really delicious. Outside there are various areas that you can sit and enjoy the peaceful beauty of the river and the quiet of nature that is behind the home. In the morning, we were treated to wonderful breakfasts, all freshly prepared by Keith and extremely delicious. The hospitality that we received at the Ellijay River House Bed and Breakfast was outstanding and we cannot recommend a stay there when you are in the area, you will be so happy...
