This definitely isn't somewhere I would stay again. They are awfully strict and outdated here for a "resort". No pets, yet the front desk has a dog? No kids allowed, yet on our stay 9/24-9/25 there was a little girl there? "Quiet Time" is from 9pm to 9am which I respect to an extent but given our balcony was literally inches from the parking lot there wasn't much of that. The TV in our room was in an old wooden chest that could only be viewed from one of the beds due to the layout. Some of the outlets in the room were 10+ feet in the air! What's the purpose of that? The bathroom was very, very small. The shower window also faced the open parking lot, which was odd and uncomfortable to say the least. Beyond that, it was full of debris from birds nests or something. There was two ladies at the front desk when we checked in that afternoon. I must say we are greatly appreciative that they let us check in an hour early, but the older lady who was handling everything was extremely devoid of any welcoming feeling. My friend asked if she had any suggestions if we wanted to explore the area and she had the audacity to say "you can walk across the street into nature, just watch out for the wildlife". Well, if you take a look across the street you'll find a parking lot for a restaurant along a sheer rock cliff face. She even turned and made a face at the other woman behind her as if we didn't see it? The only reason I'm giving 2 stars is because they let us check in early and the woman in the morning - not the older guy who checked us out who said maybe all of 5 words to me - was extremely friendly upon turning in the keys. I've got the pleasure of staying many places in the area, many cheaper than this, but I have never ever had an experience like this before. Hopefully you will have a...
Read moreMy wife and I stayed at Deer Crest Resort during our stay in Estes Park and will definitely be returning in the future. Everything about our stay was above and beyond, which starts with the awesome, personable and hard-working owners, Cherokee and Nicole. It's easy to see the effort they put into maintaining the property and ensuring their guests have a great experience. We interacted with them on a regular basis and appreciated all they did to make our stay a fantastic one. Although hard to choose our favorite part of the property itself, we frequented the awesome patio multiple times a day. It's a perfect, serene oasis for enjoying your morning coffee or relaxing by the fire pit and roasting some (free) smores in the evening. The property is located adjacent to a creek and there's a nice lawn space to sit alongside the creek and relax. The rooms are charming and well kept/clean with everything you need (toiletries, stove, dishes/silverware, toaster, cups, fridge, microwave, stove, etc.). All rooms are on or a short distance away from the Creek so you really can't go wrong picking any of the rooms. We opted for the Fireside suite so we could enjoy a cozy fire in our room. We found the location of the resort to be perfect as well and close to a RMNP entrance. It's a short drive to most things in Estes Park, including downtown, but far enough away from the crowds to enjoy some peace and quiet. There are some other awesome bonuses such as complimentary popcorn and DVDs for use. We literally can't say enough good things about this place. Stay here! You won't be disappointed. Can't imagine our stay being better anywhere else and frankly, don't care to attempt to find out. We are looking forward to...
Read moreMy wife and I stayed here for a few days in July 2019. While the exterior is small and humble, our experience was delightful. The staff, some of whom live on-site, are kind and generous. We were staying over the course of July 4th and experienced a jovial cookout and were presented with a nice commemorative coffee mug. They went above and beyond to make us feel at home.
The room was clean and quaint, boasting a private balcony facing the road and a communal balcony facing the river. Being there in July, the Broad-Tailed Hummingbirds were frequenting the many feeders around the property, which made sitting on the back balcony really enjoyable - not only because of the free entertainment, but because they relentlessly feed on all the pests that could be bothersome. It seems like all rooms have access to a charmingly little communal area with bench swings, cornhole, picnic tables, and lounge chairs next to the river.
While the structure itself wouldn’t be best described as modern, it has a special charm instead. And at the same time, it’s not some dirty hole in the wall; it’s better-kept and cleaner than any mainstream hotel room. The WiFi is serviceable and the rooms have a microwave and fridge.
The location is prime given its proximity to Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park. Lots of hiking within striking distance, but not far from good amenities like grocery stores (and Starbucks, fwiw).
In all, I can’t speak highly enough of our experience. Lodging in this area is going to be expensive no matter what. And despite the fact that this place had a lower price than nearby competitors, I can’t imagine how our experience could have...
