We only have good things to say about Hyatt House!
Pre-stay, they also reply to all queries on email within 24 hours. At check-in, it was both speedy with the friendliest service (shout-out to Ray who was there at the reception since we checked-in at 7pm and was surprisingly still there at breakfast working the omelette station at 9am) and we were given a beautiful, clean and modern room given on the 7th floor.
It's often the little things that make the a hotel feel like home... from the simple but functional complimentary breakfast (loved the poppy seed bagel on Saturday morning), to the extensive number of items they have available for you to borrow for free (Bose headphones, blenders, board games... the list goes on!), Hyatt House has it covered. We didn't use any, but were just impressed that it was available. Even the gym was 24 hours with free earphones given for use during the exercise.
When we stayed in the whole day to get some office work done, we had the 'Do not disturb' sign on the whole day - in the evening, the receptionist actually gave us a call to let us know that housekeeping will be leaving for the day and our room hasn't been cleaned, if we would like to have some fresh towels or anything restocked. So sweet! That was completely unexpected for them to notice. I've stayed in five-star hotels before that doesn't even do this.
During my stay, I needed to urgently print just one document at 1.30am in the middle of the night for my meeting the next day - they actually have complimentary use of the computers and printing at the lobby!
Finally, the reception team is extremely kind helping me with my parcels. I'm only here for a week and do not have a car, so I couldn't drive to many places to buy items that I need from local brands here. Mailing was the only way, and I was arriving past the Semi-Annual Sales period. Hyatt House's team was so kind to accept my parcel even two weeks before I had arrived and kept it safely aside for me. I am so extremely thankful to the team for that.
I stayed at two hotels during my time in Chicago: Hyatt House Chicago/Evanston (in Evanston) and Swissotel Chicago (downtown). Despite Swissotel being a four-star hotel, the experience was nothing compared to my stay at Hyatt House. I strongly recommend anyone who is considering a place in Evanston to stay here. In fact, I would probably chose Hyatt House anywhere in the world after this experience I had here in Evanston. Kudos...
Read moreFawlty Towers 2.0: Nice hotel. Odd customer service. Strange valet. There were a lot of things wrong about our stay that some good ol' fashioned customer service and better communication could have corrected. Unfortunately, we left a day early because we ran out of patience.
We booked a suite online, not a room. When we checked in, all the suites were unavailable. At the hotel's request, we opted to be flexible and downgrade to a room. The hotel staff said they'd adjust our bill. No big deal. When we checked out, staff could not adjust our bill. She explained that a manager would have to get back to us. She took our name and number. Our credit card was charged for three nights in a suite, but we only stayed two nights in a room. No manager has gotten back to us.
Why did the valet come to our room at 11:30pm? We tried to use the valet. On the first night, he told us to park the car ourselves and keep the keys. We did. On the second night it was the same story, park yourself and keep your keys. At 10:30pm, another valet called asking for our keys, waking us all up. We explained that the first valet told us to keep our keys, but we would be happy to bring them down to him. He said it was fine to keep our keys. Then at 11:30pm ANOTHER VALET knocked on our room door asking for our keys, again waking us all up. "Oh, I didn't think you all would be asleep... Do you have your keys?" We explained the situation and he was very confused. I offered him the keys to make everything easier, but he refused. "No, it's okay, you can keep your keys." It was SO WEIRD. The hotel staff was also confused by this and said they would comp us the valet. Instead we were charged.
Where is our bag? We left a bag at the front desk. We called the front desk to see if they had it. The front desk said they were busy and would get back to us. They did not. Every time we try to call back, we are put on hold for 15-30 minutes and then transferred into theHyatt corporate customer service team that tell us, "Sorry, we can't help you. You need to contact this property directly."
We totally understand that the labor market is tight and this is a busy time of year with back-to-school. We just want to talk to a human who can give us a few actionable answers, adjust our billing, and get us off this Hyatt...
Read moreRoom 513. You'll notice 1 put 1 star for overall, room, and service but 5 star for location. Because I'm giving the most accurate rating possible for this place. Room 513 was where we stayed. I had a very important work meeting the next day so I was really counting on getting good sleep as I had to wake up at 5:30 am the next day. The a/c fan is so loud, including the deep vibration of the HVAC paneling, I could not get sleep at all. I was waking up over, 10, 20 minutes everytime the fan would go. It felt like I was on board a really big ship and trying to sleep right next to the loud engine. I tried to sleep until I just really could not bare it anymore and I called the front desk at 1 am. A guy named Allan answered and as I explained how loud the ac was and how I was desperate to get good sleep, (I was even fine with being moved to a cheaper room, since we were in one of the bigger studios). He said there was nothing he could do about it. That morning, I mustered up all the strength I had from the terrible crappy, night and spoke to front desk. I had made it clear that even if they had sent maintenance to address the issue, there's no guarantee that it would get fixed and so I just told them I would be cutting my stay short. I was in meetings that whole work day so my husband who was with me dealt with the maintenance guy who checked the room. The maintenance guy admitted the ac fans are really loud and that they've already had a few complaints about it, but that there was nothing he could do. So please , please I do not want anyone else to fall victim into a terrible experience like I had, DO NOT book this hotel. My husband and I ended up moving to the Hilton Garden Inn on Maple Ave. and had a much better experience. It's also much bigger, with a pool (unlike this Hyatt) and a peloton bike in the gym. But most importantly, you will be able to sleep, unlike in this Hyatt where it just feels like you are sleeping right next to a...
